Governor Palin Sold One State Plane, Used Another

Governor Sarah Palin used her state law-enforcement agency's twin-engine plane to travel around Alaska, accounting for about 20 percent of its flying time, according to a document obtained by NBC News. The police plane is a King Air turboprop that is primarily used for police-related missions and search and rescue missions.

That's just fantastic: first, she tells the state troopers that if they don't fire Wooten she would not fully fund them despite that state's rampant rape and meth plagues.

Now she further obstructs law enforcement by taking a plane in a state where towns are sometimes separated by hundreds of miles, for her personal convenience.

Anyone who is in law enforcement should find her attitude horrifying. And those in the civilian population who depend on our brave officers to defend us from the scum of society should be quivering in anger.

The story was always bullshit. The problem was that Alaska needed a second aircraft -- the jet she sold was not just used by the Governor, in fact the department of corrections and the police used it more. Be real, Alska is a state that needs to use aircraft to get around, even the Palin's themselves own a light aircraft. What Palin did was announce she was going to sell an aircraft the state in fact needed and then sell it to show she was not a liar. Having sold it she then found that the state was reduced to using an ancient clapped out King Air, so worn it was a "hanger queen." Worse she sold a Westwind II which the state must have bought used (the last one was made in 1987) for about $2 million -- but the King Air she will need to replace now costs, depending on the model, $5-8 million and she contributed to Alaska's likely need to buy another aircraft, which to make the "mix" sensible ought to be a jet (Alaska is big, jets are cheaper over longer ranges.) On top of that, as the article indicates, the primary role of the King Air is public safety, but she is using it to fly around, lessening its availability both when she is using it and because of hanger/maintenance time to make up for her extra use.

Ever wonder if Palin's "faith" would interrupt her ability to lead this country; check out these words of hers. Some of it is a bit confusing as usual because she is a little light in communications. In response to being behind in the polls: Palin said the campaign had to have faith that its message will be heard "minus the filter of the mainstream media. That filter has to be erased," she said. "So we have to have faith in the wisdom of the people that they'll understand what our message is. But even bigger that then, I have to have that faith that God is going to help us get that message out there."

I wonder how this impropper use of of police property impeded criminial cases?

I loathe the woman but I have to say that she does have to get around the state. The problem is that the police should have their plane for their work. Perhaps when she sold the other plane the state should have purchased a smaller one that she could use to get around the state.

What's more telling is not so much that she needed a plane--Klondike derbies and raffles aside--she did; it's a big state. It's the fact they were angry that it wasn't at her beck and call. Reading the full article, they were angry and couldn't believe that the plane was "at the shop" so much. Not at the shop or saving peoples lives. If they wanted the plane, and it wasn't in for maintenance, her needs took precedence. Further, she had a plane. She had it sold. Now, maybe that plane was too expensive, she could have bought another less expensive plane. No, no, that wasn't it at all. She wanted to make political hey out of it while using the search and rescue plane through the back door.

Good point it is a big state. Not that I am voting for McCain-Palin, but any Governor of Alaska would have to fly around the state to meet with constituents and local government officials. Of course they could use webcams and such, but you need infrastructure for that.
