Hannity

The Republican National Committee is sending out another round of automated anti-Obama calls that, somewhat remarkably, include segments from a controversial program that recently aired on Fox News.

In text messages sent to voters, the RNC instructs recipients to call a number to "know the facts" or risk losing "your freedoms this November 4th." Once dialed in, callers are read the standard text of the robocalls tying Obama to former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers.

Then participants get a dose of the fair and balanced. The recording that viewers hear next is the final section of the "Obama & Friends: The History of Radicalism" special program that ran recently on Fox News. That show, quite famously, featured Sean Hannity interviewing Andy Martin, an "Internet journalist" who once called a judge a "crooked, slimy Jew" and advanced the conspiracy theory that "[w]e have not seen a valid Obama birth certificate."

Recipients of the call weren't subjected to Martin's take on Obama -- in which it was asserted that the Senator had once trained for a "radical overthrow" of the U.S. government. But they were treated to lines that appear to be from Stanley Kurtz, the National Review reporter who has gone to great lengths to dig up dirt on the Senator's time in Chicago, his connection to Ayers, and his ties to ACORN. The latter topic is the primary subject of the automated call, which was first reported by the New York Times.

"Up to now, we have been looking at this whole process from the top down. We have been seeing the Wall Street connection to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac connection. But if you look from the ground up, that's where ACORN has been the driving force. And Barack Obama has been with them every step of the way," says Kurtz. "I think understanding where Barack Obama is coming from would make any voter think twice about whether he is the right person to solve this problem."

The call ends with Hannity's declaring: "Obama's list of friends reads like a history of radicalism."

This is not the first time that the McCain campaign has used Fox News segments as a means of hammering Obama. In mid-September the cable network wrote a cease-and-desist letter to the Arizona Republican after his staff released a web ad, featuring correspondent Major Garrett.

UPDATE: Alex Conant of the RNC tells Ben Smith that the robocall is not from the Republican Party. The New York Times had reported that it was sanctioned by the McCain campaign because the call started off saying so. But the number at the end is apparently associated with many marketing complaints.

One of these days, Hannity and his cohorts at the Ministry of Propaganda will cross a line that is so egregious, there will be no going back. Personally, most of us think that line was crossed long ago, but the courts have a different threshold. The day will come when the filth they spew will land them, solidly, afoul of the hate speech laws. Our nation will be better for it.

I've come to the conclusion that Fox News is now the place McCain and the Republicans go to get advice on to win against Obama.

As for Sean Hannity; just remember, this man and his supporters will use their vote, - make sure you use you yours!

My old mother in-law who is of color, watches Fix News all the time, all day long when she isn't watching the judge shows or her stories. It's I guess like a soap opera to old folks. What a joke Fix News really is. She's still voteng for Obama/Biden!

Wow. I'm impressed she is voting for Obama after watching so much Fox. My elderly neighbors watch Fox all day, too. I jokingly teased them one day and said they can no longer watch it because it was deceiving them. They were shocked at what I had to say and they really didn't understand at first. They love all the hosts and the "happy talk" eye-candy graphic flag-waving look of it. They were McCain supporters and thought Obama was a "muslim-radical, inexperienced" politician with some secret agenda. I have had so much fun educating them over the past two months. They put an Obama/Biden yard sign on their lawn last week. I was floored when I saw it. They are so sweet and understand it now. They said they refuse to stop watching O"Reilly though and we laughed about it.
They call me and ask questions about "Joe the Plumber" and figure it out on their own. They now try to educate their own friends. I just love it that they "get it" now.
It's really not too difficult to change peoples minds with the truth.

So, I got home from work and had TWO robocalls from the RNC on the machine and couldn't believe the crap they were trying to feed me. I wonder how much this actually works against the RNC. It was the little push I needed to get online and donate another $100 to Barack's campaign. I was pretty sure I was done after contributing around $700 so far and pretty much all of it was done out of my admiration for Barack and the hope he inspires. Now, my disgust for the RNC and the McCain campaign just motivated me to throw a hundred dollars in Barack's direction. I'm very pleased to see Obama signs popping up all over Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. I've even seen a few McCain signs taken down, and I'm pretty sure it was by the rightful owner due to other McCain signs in the vicinity remaining unmolested.

My survey says,,,
In an small town with a majority of Republicans....

Unlike year 2000 and 2004 there's only one tiny sign for McCain...
2000 there were many signs for Bush
2004 there were some
2008 there is 1 sign for McSame

The comment,,"All my Republican friends don't know who to vote for"...
"This is the worst ever,,,"
Basically they all don't like McCain and see him as Bush...
A few may cross over and vote Obama the rest will stay home...
It will be a landslide for Obama...

No matter what the Republicans spew, what hits home is money..
Most Americans have had enough time(8 years) to acquate there financal situation with Bush/McSame.....

The Republicans will be erased off the map,,,
Everybody does it,,,when you don't like your parties candidate,,,you don't vote....
Every Republcan I know,,,DOESN'T LIKE JOHN MCSAME BUSH......

Applause applause for you! That is just what the OLD republicans just don't get. There are a younger generation of "conservatives" who are nothing like these "Republicans", who like you and I are disgusted by these robo calls and other negative attacks. Look what happened to congress woman Bachman when she said on Chris Matthews show that "the media should do a expose on congress to see who there is anti American like Obama" Her Democratic opponent received 500,000 in a single afternoon, now almost 1 million in donations, AND the GOP has pulled all ads for her in her state, because they know she cannot win now. This is all backfiring, and they just don't get it. As I read comments on the Huff, a lot of republicans are saying they can't stand McCain, Sarah Palin is NOT qualified to be VP, she is an embarrassment for them now.

Hmmm, more or less just what Colin Powell said when he endorsed Obama!

Younger Republicans , and thoughtful Republicans will either switch to Obama, or stay home on November 4th.

I think the the Republicans will be shocked by the numbers of their party, that will stay home in droves, this election day.

I don't know if they work or not, but I received an email from a friend in Florida yesterday that said, "If Obama was to apply for a Federal job he would not pass the background check because of his terrorist friends." Now if the stupidity of not realizing that he's already a Senator....the lies do stick to people that are.... let's say, low information. Only good thing is that he's still voting for Obama because he thinks McCain is nuts.

I know it is horribly unfair here-- but anyone who has a modicum of brains knows that Hannity is a total A**hole. He preaches to the choir-- eventually he'll dig his own grave.

Here is more great news, Sean Hannity is doing another fantastic show this Sunday at 9:00ET that will expose the dreadful Comrade obama's anti American and Marxist ideology. Be sure to spread the word - it will be great!

Good. It will be sure to turn more independents to vote Democratic. Let Sean keep digging the grave.

I watched the other day and to my suprise, Alan Colmes showed some balls. I often have visions of kidnapping Hannity, taking his wallet and Id and drop his off in the worse neighborhood possible. I dispise that man. I do tend to turn his show off.

Yes, and it's amazing that the FCC gets all upset about swearing on TV and Janet Jackson bearing a boob at a football game (or was it baseball?). I am sure any kids would probably just giggle at those things. On Fox News, however, you've got lies and hate speech - how is that affecting young people?

Marxist, socialist? So, what would you call the bailouts of AIG, the big theee automakers, and the $840 billion bailout package? Funny, but all of this occurred in W's administration.
It must suck to be in a constant state of denial.

Several years ago, during the last Presidential election, I got "banned" from the Hannity Forums. Sure wish now in retrospect that I would have kept that e-mail notifying me that I had been permanently banned. I should have framed it and hung it on my wall! LOL

I got banned for writing:

"Sean Hannity, your a GREAT.... EMBARASSMENT! It's so pathetic to hear you on your radio show daily auditioning to be George Bush's Monica Lewinsky"!

Now that may seem crude, but certainly seemed accurate at the time! If not Monica, then certainly someone should have dressed him in a cheerleader sweater and skirt!

Just read (and please encourage others to do so as well) Hannity's Forums (Washington Politics) to see for yourself the apparent base of the Republican party, Hannity's associates, and the people that McCain and Palin are courting. It should scare you or offend you a LOT more than what I got banned for!

I just had a look around on Hannity's Forums. Wow those people are nutbags! Hannity is a loon. I usually can't watch him - for a laugh of course - because Playschool is on at the same time and that is my 4 yr old's fav show. Sometimes I'll switch back and forth and then get confused...is it Playschool or Hannity? I can't tell I'm confused... oh right Playschool targets a more intelligent audience and therefore is a little more sophisticated in its approach.

Well at least you got to write the e-mail before you got banned. Rush Limbaugh's Website does not let you send in emails unless you join his 24/7 club....whatever that is? When I did sign up for replies for their Newswire (whatever that is...some propaganda operation), I got spammed like crazy and had to go back in and request deletion of my address.

Quite frankly, these ultra conservatives find opposing views uncomfortable for their huge egos. Do not challenge them...they'll end up on drugs and in re-hab.

By the way...visit Rush's website....it's full of made up, unheard of awards for journalism. It's really kinda creepy! If Rush didn't have this gig he'd be a used car salesman ....and a bad one at that!

Agreed. His website is a freak show. However, what does it say about the fact that Rush and Sean just signed contracts for $400 mill and $100 million, respectively?

We are in denial that this country should be divided up and let the right wing go their way and the rest of us should go ours. I can no longer deny my hatred and rage towards these radicals. The direction this country has taken is both disturbing and embarrassing. I long to again have hope that I would take pride in America and what it could stand for.

There will be many more defections, than Colin Powells.

The Republican Party is finding its self splitting in two. There are the genuine conservatives, like Colin Powell. Thoughtful articulate educated accomplished.. There are a a large number of extraordinary people in the middle class, hard working, with great common sense. These folks will not be bullied by the fear mongering anymore. They have seen the right wing crazies, like Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh stir up too much hate and divisiveness, when all the while America is simply going down the tubes! There is a global financial crisis, two wars the US cannot afford or keep up with, not to mention the terrible view the rest of the world has of the US, because of its atrocious foreign policies.

Before the next election the Republicans will be no more. The types of conservatives I mentioned will have to form another conservative party, and let the Hannity types cannibalize themselves in the old one.

I hope liberals don't wuss out over this. We have a long history of talking too much and not backing it up with any sort of action. We as liberal cannot simply denounce this behavior but we have to go after this divisive and corrosive conservative ideology that threatens to take us back to the violent times of Jim Crow. Make know mistake about it, individuals like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are terrorist sympathizers, the terror they subscribe to is the subjugation of people who don't believe in their ideology, minorities, women, and gays.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:02 AM on 10/23/2008

I don't believe in hate, but I'm beginning to really hate people like Sean Hannity and the conservative shills at Fox News, it's getting to the point with conservatives where their racism is most certainly going to fuel violence and we as American''s can't allow that!
