ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Intelligence officials say suspected U.S. missiles have struck a militant-linked religious school in Pakistan's northwest near Afghanistan, killing four people.

The U.S. is suspected in a dozen missile strikes on Pakistani militant hideouts since mid-August.

The early Thursday strike targeted a religious school that belonged to a local pro-Taliban cleric in the North Waziristan tribal region.

The cleric is believed to be linked to veteran Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqqani, considered a top foe of the U.S.

Two intelligence officials gave the information based on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media. They said they received the information from agents and informants.
