I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Obama

At least two people have quit their jobs at call centers over scripts that accuse Barack Obama of working closely with Bill Ayers. The Charleston Gazette reports on a woman in West Virginia:

Chaylee Cole, a student at Fairmont State University, lost her part-time job in Weston last Friday after refusing to make telephone calls attacking Barack Obama.

McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee were paying for the calls, according to a "work paper" handed to Cole and her co-workers at the Weston offices of 1.2.1 Direct Response, a company based in Philadelphia.

"I was working at the call center," Cole said. "We got a campaign ad talking about how Obama had been part of terrorist attacks on the Capitol, the Pentagon and a judge's home and had ties with Bill Ayers.

"Last Thursday, I told them I did not want to read it," Cole said. "They said, 'Either you read it or you go home.'

"I told them I wasn't going to read it. They made me go home without pay for the rest of the day."

...

"I talked to one of our 'coaches,' which is what our supervisors were called. I said I was unhappy with the situation and I quit," she said Tuesday.

And WKOW finds a man in Wisconsin:

Voters in more than 13 states, including Wisconsin are getting calls from people accusing Barack Obama of having ties to terrorists. Some of those calls are made from right here in Madison.

A local man made dozens of calls bashing Barack Obama, but when the campaign got ugly, he quit his job.

...

Zoromski said, "This was different than I was told I was going to be saying, and [Sitel] said the script changes on a daily basis."

So Zoromski quit, fed up with what he perceived as scare tactics.

You know, it is a shame that people just assume that McCain is behind it. What if some one posted on here that Obama is doing the same thing? What it someone posted on here that they got phone calls from the Obama side making claims about McCain? What then? Most would who support the Socialist Ideas of Obama would just get angry and bash the Person who posted it. Just to note, I am not for Either one, but, for those that support Obama, think of this, how many of you work for a company whose boss makes $250,000 or more? His taxes under Obama will be raised. Do you know what that means for you? It is not hard to figure out. Or how about the fact that you will be forced to by health insurance that the Government deams as right no matter whether you can afford it or not. Or How about you will have no choice in whether to opt into a 401 K plan. I am a small Busines Owner that falls into Obama's higher tax bracket. For me, not voting him in is a reality.

I wouldn't be willing to do them either, even against McCain....I just don't think it's right and it just makes this country more divisive and hateful. Good for them.

Ya sure can't get people to do this for free. I guess Obama shames them in getting VOLUNTEERS to actually talk TO people rather than AT them. Imagine that! Treating people like human beings is a very effective campaign strategy! Sure appeals to Independents like me.

Here's an idea...

Since Republicans are SO about trying to pass laws that ensure pharmacists won't be fired for refusing to dispense certain drugs because it "violates their deeply held beliefs"...

Then why don't we pass a law saying these call center workers can't be fired for refusing to read a political script that contains things that violates their deeply held beliefs?

I mean you'd think Republicans would be all for it given their principled support for pharmacists.

Right?

A couple of people willing to take a stand based on their moral values. This is fantastic.

The big question: do all of the other employees of these companies have no moral values? A temporary job is not going to pay their bills for more than 2 more weeks.

The world the Republicans want to create, is one in which people are so poor, and so dependent on any scraps thrown them by the rich, that they will routinely violate their own conscience for a paycheck.

Of course that's not how they see it, because they themselves see nothing at all wrong with lying to get what you want, or with putting people in a position where their choice is to do wrong, or not eat.

Simply put, there is no "wrong" to a Neo-Con, if the word is applied to their tactics. They will do or say ANYTHING to get what they want; and they count on our own sense of fairness to lend their tactics legitimacy. We don't want to believe that people would act that dishonestly, so we discount the indications that Neo-Con Republicans do, in fact, act that way.

It matters not that they may be destroying a good person's reputation or credibility -- the most precious of commodities, to those of us who value honor. What matters to them -- the ONLY thing that matters -- is winning.

No matter what it does to a person's reputation. No matter what it does to the country.

If only all Republicans would listen to their inner-voice.
Republicans have been sabotaged by their own party. After all, not every
Republican wants to be characterized as a screaming, rabid racist. Most Republicans, I suspect, are bright, decent people, but their party unfairly characterizes them as "drill, baby, drill" morons who come to rallies witn Obama Monkeys (ie: macaca) and scream "terrorist-kill him" at the rallies. This "trickle-down hate" starts at the top when these remarks are not only provoked and encouraged, but tolerated after they are uttered. Republicans like Colin Powell are intelligent, well-spoken people with a different fundamental view on the way government should operate. They don't see being a Republican as being given a license to determine who is patriotic and who is not, who is an American and who is not. This slippery slope takes us right back to 1950's McCarthyism and guilt by association. Senator Bachmann echoed these very sentiments the other day, and called for a review of the Senate to determine who was a real American and who was not, by her definition. In so doing, she brought into question whether she had the right stuff to be a senator. I pity Republicans stuck in the mire that the McCain campaign seems to enjoy wallowing in. Jean Paul Sartre couldn't have devised a better hell than having to support McCain in the context of his "no exit" campaign.
