Obama

At least two people have quit their jobs at call centers over scripts that accuse Barack Obama of working closely with Bill Ayers. The Charleston Gazette reports on a woman in West Virginia:

Chaylee Cole, a student at Fairmont State University, lost her part-time job in Weston last Friday after refusing to make telephone calls attacking Barack Obama.

McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee were paying for the calls, according to a "work paper" handed to Cole and her co-workers at the Weston offices of 1.2.1 Direct Response, a company based in Philadelphia.

"I was working at the call center," Cole said. "We got a campaign ad talking about how Obama had been part of terrorist attacks on the Capitol, the Pentagon and a judge's home and had ties with Bill Ayers.

"Last Thursday, I told them I did not want to read it," Cole said. "They said, 'Either you read it or you go home.'

"I told them I wasn't going to read it. They made me go home without pay for the rest of the day."

...

"I talked to one of our 'coaches,' which is what our supervisors were called. I said I was unhappy with the situation and I quit," she said Tuesday.

And WKOW finds a man in Wisconsin:

Voters in more than 13 states, including Wisconsin are getting calls from people accusing Barack Obama of having ties to terrorists. Some of those calls are made from right here in Madison.

A local man made dozens of calls bashing Barack Obama, but when the campaign got ugly, he quit his job.

...

Zoromski said, "This was different than I was told I was going to be saying, and [Sitel] said the script changes on a daily basis."

So Zoromski quit, fed up with what he perceived as scare tactics.

I'm sure there were more people who hated what they were doing but the money they needed to help pay their rent won out over principle. Of course I admire these two people who refused to do this dirty work but at the same time, I have sympathy for those who would like to quit and can't.

A good friend of mine got a call from the Republican party two days after Palin was picked. She is a fashion stylist. Just as we were meeting for coffee she got the call, and I watched her face as she turned down the job of dressing Sarah Palin for the upcoming campaign. It was a mega job, at a time when work is scarce, and good pay too. But she politely refused. She could not be an accomplice in the head to toe effort to get this woman elected, she said, "How would I explain to my ten year old daughter that I helped someone who wants to take her future rights as a woman away." I was proud of my friend, we made jokes of how we could have compromised Palin from within, like dressing her in Yamamoto or gawdy Versace mini skirts. Looks like whoever got the job had the same idea, Palin is compromised after all, not by what she wore, which looked damn good, but by how much she spent. We had not thought of that scenario, that morning, giggling at the prospect of taking Palin down, while sipping out lattes.

Good for you buddy!! Why do something that you know in your heart is wrong! Kudos for walking away...Let this be an example to the others who are still "employed" by the GOP party making these misleading and false calls..

Some people (call center managers) will cross any line of indecency for money.

Some people ( Chaylee Cole in PA & Zoromski in WI) have integrity and decency and will NOT sell their souls to the devil for money.

Someone decent in those areas should look these people up and offer them a job just for having good values.

It's heartwarming to hear about people standing up for what they believe in.
