ATLANTA — A contest that would pay $10,000 to an engaged couple, as long as they abstain from premarital sex, hasn't gotten any takers. The deadline for the Marriage for a Lifetime contest is Oct. 31. The prize includes free flowers, invitations and other wedding treats.

So far, organizer Phillippia Faust hasn't gotten any entries.

She said, "In our society it's going to be hard to find" a couple that hasn't had premarital sex.

Faust has orchestrated mock weddings and other pro-marriage activities through her Marriage Appreciation Training Uplifting Relationship Education program, a nonprofit that isn't church-affiliated. The program is implemented through Rockdale Medical Center.

My name is Sadie. I am twenty years old. I am engaged to Michael Schmidt. Michael and I were planning on entering the contest, but neither of us lived in the three counties. I live in Carroll county, To me the contest is not about money. I wish there were some way I could speak out. Both Michael and I are virgins and will remain that way until our wedding day. We have never kissed each other nor have ever kissed any one else. Both our our first kisses will be on our wedidng day. He was my first boyfriend, and I his first girlfriend.
I chose not to have a boyfriend because I prayed that God would send me someone, the One He has for me. I was very selective of who I chose. I prayed for someone who believed the same ways I do, have the same morals and values. God answered my prayer! He sent me Michael!
I would have loved to enter the contest. The money is nice, but not the most important to me. It is the words behind the contest. It is a voice that can be heard. I dream of one day making a difference. I dream that one day I can be a role model to young girls or just to counsel young girls. Right now, all we can do is make a difference one day at a time. I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me. Phil.4:13

Looks like they're really winning this culture war. Is there a stipulation that the couple has to remained married for a length of time, and that nobody can back out if the sex turns out to be lousy?

There are some Christian couples who abstain until their wedding night. Perhaps no one has heard about this. I surely hadn't.

Love the acronym - MATURE!

MUST be an onion headline - who can take this seriously.

It's not the abstinence part of the contest that is detouring...actually, that's the easy part. The reason why no one's signing up for this contest is simple...you have to sign a statement saying that you will not serve alcohol at your wedding reception...you gotta be kidding me...lol.

WTF? No alcohol at a reception? Alright. sure as long as we can all smoke weed.

That's another crazy thing about America. as long as you arn't paying attention to Europe or Canada, we can smoke as much weed as we want. But when your Ambassadors show up we have to hide it all and look like we totally support your preidents Anti-whatever crusade...

it's big BS

I have always wondered why the public figures who are such outspoken proponents of abstince-befor-marriage never give testimony of their own personal histories in this regard as role-model examples. The fact is, abstinence-before-marriage is a stupid religious-based idea that denies the fact that the sex drive is an overwhelmingly powerful force in the biological world, upon which the very survival of a species depends, and it is silly to try to stop it.

Sounds like an "Onion" headline

On another note, does anyone else get the "FastFreeIQTest.com" ad below the comment window?

And a follow-up: Does anyone actually believe Sarah Palin's IQ is 120?

If Sarah Palin's IQ is 120, then I have a very promising future in quantum physics.

It was grade-flation first and now it is IQ-flation. Now, everyone in a high school class can be at the genius level based on IQ. I really feel that the person at the bottom of my high school class was a genius compared to Ms. Palin.

Somebody dropped a decimal point there.
But seriously, she has shown that she's quick and can think on her feet (although her vocal tract often runs without any input from the brain, which is scrambling in the background. Speaking in tongues seems to help with interviews.) Now if she had any kind of education instead of that witch hunter Kool Aid...
I hope she is damaged goods by the time this is over. Yes, that is nasty, but we can't afford any more politicians with that extremist kind of world view. I'm sure there is a warm seat in corrupt Alaska available somewhere.

She has at least a 120 IQ. Don't "misunderestimate" her. Some of her failings are part of her act.

Keep in mind, W is actually pretty bright. He chooses to be ignorant.

Neither are redeemed by the realization that their failures arise from their evil inclinations, rather than everyday incompetence.

I read about this in the paper today. I sent the link to my wife, who sent it to her engaged (virgin) coworker. She called to enter, but was unable to because she doesn't live in one of the three counties named in the article.

My favorite line? Ahem:

"... Yet in a recent interview, Faust seemed inclined to relax the rules, saying couples engaging in sex can still qualify but they must acknowledge, 'The right choice is probably not to have had done it.'

She will, however, draw the line at couples living together."

Just think of all the entrants if

they did it with

married people
