The Chicago Board of Education on Wednesday approved plans for 12 new schools to open next fall.
The 12 are among dozens of small, autonomous schools the district has approved over the last four years. The new offerings include an all-boys high school, a high school funded by the Chicago Bulls, and a K-8 school in Altgeld Gardens, a South Side housing project.
