Carol Alt: Divorced Because She Couldn't Have Kids

Supermodel Carol Alt says she and ex-Ranger captain Ron Greschner split because she had cancer and couldn't satisfy his goal of having kids, bombshell court papers reveal.

In the papers - filed in advance of her civil trial next week in Manhattan federal court, where the stunning Alt is suing her retired hockey-playing ex-hubby for $9 million over a business deal - she also says the two continued to have sex "well after" agreeing to divorce.

The onetime Sports Illustrated cover girl - who at 47 is set to bare it all for the December issue of Playboy - told Sports Illustrated in 2001 that their high-profile marriage ended because "he wanted children, and I wasn't ready."

But in the new court papers, she says the real problem was that she "could not conceive" as a result of cervical and uterine cancer and "because Greschner strongly desired children, the two decided that Greschner should be with someone who could so provide him."

The former defenseman now has five children with wife Lori.

Oh goodie, another Playboy "spread. Guess no woman is a real woman until Playboy comes calling.

With both cervical and uterine cancer, I'd be surprised if she didn't have a hysterectomy. That's the standard treatment.

I do not have a clue who any of these people are, but, as a general rule, two kids is earth friendly. As even Catholics now say, "Three is the new five and five is the new twelve". Is this guy some kind of god that we need more little carbon copies? Adopt if you want more kids, big fella.

People saying the guy is horrible for wanting to be with someone that could have kids need to lay off it. There are plenty of women out there that will dump a guy if he couldn't deliver on his part in making a kid or simply go out an cheat. Don't act as if it's some big shock or somehow wrong for a man to want to have his own biological child. Men have their own desires and feelings as well. This whole anti-male line of attack that has been building over the years makes me sick.

However he should have payed her what she was granted after the divorce then this wouldn't be an issue now.

It's not so much the "Kids are important to me" part as the "I'm dumping you because you have Cancer." part.

And, in this day and age he can have a biological child and still stay married to his wife. Surrogacy is quite common.

So, it's just a little more than what you portray.

Unless you read the entire piece, you would think Alt is the one-sided victim. The couple married, and relying on what said here ( never rely on the catchy headline ), wanted to have a family. The lady, was a uper model who opted to wait and postponed family and children at age 37. The man at 43 - 44 couldn't wait anymore, so they both decided to divorce.

It's a fair decision and amicable split. Alt wanted to continue being a super model, and Greshner wanted children and family. It's not known if adoption was considered, then again, Alt was not ready to be a mom and have a family.

Alt is now 47, older perhaps but still good looking for woman nearing 50. But she has no family, and all alone. She has not been on a cover for a long time, but of late, Playboy Mag will do a spread. Money is the motivation. Unfortunately, Alt was stricken with cervical cancer. In the meantime, Greshner has moved on, married, with 5 children.

It would appear based on the divorce agreement that part of the settlement gave Greshner $890K. That divorced was finalized, according to this piece in sometimes in 2001.

Greshner should just surrender that money to her. She has no family, no children and alone. Worst, she has cancer.


For Alt, I wish her well. I hope she does not do Playboy, and for Greshner, be nice. You have everything you wished for, wife, children -

Marriage and children may be what YOU think makes a life, but there are plenty of people without them who are not "alone" or "without family." It's just too bad they didn't know their own minds earlier in the process. I don't necessarily think he is the winner and she is the loser, if you know what I mean.

It's not me that is being discussed here and what I think of what makes a life is not the issue here.

It's Alt and Greshner. For Greshner, marriage meant family and children. For Alt, it's being a Super Model. Nothing wrong with her choice. That's what she wanted. So they parted.

Greshner moved on. Alt is revisiting the settlement of the divorced in 2001. It's fair to note that at 47, she is not the SUPER MODEL. It's fair to note she is alone, no family and no children. And, she has cancer. Those are the facts, cold reality.

Still, Greshner having moved on feeling complete and at peace with his choices, the issue of $890,000 is a pocket change. There was a timed, he loved Alt. He should just give her as charity, if not for a woman he once loved as well.

More and more women all over the world, including the U.S., are deciding not to have children. Having children is not essential to happiness in this life, so Carol Alt should not feel bad at all because she could not have children.

As for her ex-husband, he's not alone in his own self-absorption as many other posters have indicated, that unfortunately there are a growing percentage of men who sump their spouses who are struck with cancer.

Look at Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong; she put a better face on it but he dumped her when her breast cancer was revealed, but she decided to adopt on her own. Good for Sheryl and I wish Carol Alt the best.

She is 47 now. I believe that when this issue took place was several years ago, because he is since remarried with 5 children. She is quoted from talking about why their marriage didn't work out back in 2001.

I though Cervical cancer come first from VD and playing around and then it develops into cancer over the years. I'm not sure if that's true, but she did have a reputation for partying.

You're thinking of the HPV virus, which CAN cause abnormal cancerous cells in the cervix. It's the only virus known to do that but there are vaccines. And it only causes CERTAIN types of cervical cancer. But you should probably not say that again outloud, it's impolite.

HPV is a virus with no symptoms that is transmitted via sex. It doesn't hurt men, but can cause cervical cancer. A woman could get it from her one and only sexual experience, so don't act like Alt "deserved" it. This was not even known until recently.

There are other causes of cancer as well.

Lots of men dump women when they get cancer. Ask a few mastectomy survivors if they are still with their husbands. The abandonment statistics are pathetically low.....

If women dumped guys with ED at the same rate that guys dump women with cancer, the divorce rate in the US would be 25% higher than it already is...
