Courtesy of Foreign Policy magazine and Gallup, this interactive world map shows how the rest of the world would vote, were they allowed to, in this historic upcoming election. Unsurprisingly, the map shows the international community to be overwhelmingly in Obama's favor.

It's pretty clear that the rest of the world wants Obama. I think that map alone is telling, and the reason that Obama should not be elected. Why as Americans would we want to weaken our position in the world.

That survey is akin to asking other major league baseball teams if they would like to see a new owner of the New York Yankees. One who shares his revenues with the other teams etc...

Silly poll, and based on the responses here... silly interpretation.

Democrats '08 America is the cause of the worlds problems! Go Defeatocrats!

The earth is BLUER!
Here's another global poll by the Economist
McCain is a global pariah!
I'm an American voting from my residence in the Netherlands
http://www.economist.com/vote2008/?a=true&cid=124&v=true
"Electoral College votes" (if these countries were viewed as U.S. States)
Republican 285
Democrat 8,969

Netherlands ECV's 26
Obama 92%
McCain 8%

Great. Can you tell me how long until I can expect to receive my worldwide voter registration card which allows me to vote for the leaders of other nations outside the US? There's some leaders I could do without as well and some countries that I think could use some "change". I'd like to vote Putin out but there's not really any voting going on there anymore so....any suggestions?
10:16 AM on 10/24/2008
Yes, try reading. These are polls, the essence of this blog and comments, not actual voting.
I'll second your vote on Putin and his Howdy Doody pupit Medvedev who can see Alaska from his home in Siberia.

The Earth is BLUE!!!
My goodness, look at this worldwide poll!
http://iftheworldcouldvote.com/results

Barack Obama 87.3% (358,296 votes)
John McCain 12.7% (52,128 votes)

Total number of votes: 410,425
Countries voted from: 199
If all the citizens of the world could vote this would be an Obama landslide!

If the economy hadn't gone in the crapper 3.5 weeks ago McCain would have had this thing wrapped up by now?

Dear 1099,

As my Mom used to say "If a buzzard had a radio in it's a$$, there would be music in the air."

McCain/Palin - HATE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN.

GO OBAMA/BIDEN

I'm an American living in Europe the past 37 years.
I would highly disagree with MurrayAbram who wrote:
"Although I am a passionate internationalist I don't believe these maps make any sense. First, because most people outside the US now even less about the candidates than the electorate does. Second, because they often have a warped image of the US itself."

The average, certainly the informed foreigners view the U.S. campaign issues critically without the U.S. MSM brainwashing. Going through country by country the vast majority of foreigners favour Obama because McCain-Bush has been a worldwide disaster.

nb that these Gallup Polls were taken in June & July 2008. It would be most interesting to see an October 08 worldwide poll. Do any of you know of such recent polls?

people outside the u.s know more about these candidates than the remaining 6-10% of "undecideds", and the entire low information republican base. the international press works to inform the public, not mislead and distract like ours does.

To us (I'm Dutch) the US has lost quite a bit of credibility and respect when George W. Bush came to power and started his "war on terror". His war has also affected us: not only do we have a significant military presence in Afghanistan, but it also influences our own national politics with all that fear that's brought upon us. Many people have become paranoid and seem to think there's a terrorist hiding in every corner. Bush is one of the US presidents who has shown the world "we do not care what you think, we'll do what we want" and *that* is why this entire world map is blue and in support of Obama. People are fed up with Bush and his attitude ... and McCain is nothing but a follow up to the Bush policies when it comes to foreign policies.

It's time for a real president in the US and for the war on terror to be ended. It's time for the US to talk to other nations without preconditions instead of invading them. Trading instead of fighting. Again, this is why the map is blue ... it is time for change, and the world sees that Obama will bring change. It's time for the US to vote for that change.

Interesting stuff. Obama even has solid support in Colombia. I'm a bit surprised at the four countries that lean McCain; I mean, Georgia's not a surprise, but the Philippines, Cambodia, and Laos all going to John "I hate g00ks" McCain? Kind of an upset.

Obama +92 in Indonesia.

And that poll only takes votes from people who are registered Economist readers. Not exactly the most 'radical left' bunch usually!

Some of these comments are hysterical. IS this a response page for SNL or am I in the wrong place?

First off, for those who said Obama would weaken America.... Get over yourself. Bush took care of that. You are now disrespected globally, have an economy that is driving the world into recession and house an entire population in poverty equal to the size of the population of Canada.

You are a declining Empire and that is the opposite to what the world wants. We want that strong, enlightened, caring and golbally conscious country back. You know, the one we all liked under Clinton.

No one enjoys resenting their neighbour. We want to like you guys again. Do the right thing and vote in a government the rest of us can respect and that certainly isn NOT McCain.

It's very interesting to see which countries think the choice of the president in the U.S. makes a difference in their own country. I was surprised by some of the opinions.

The only country I saw that would elect McCain is the Philippines, which is kind of interesting.

Hey Foreign Policy Magazine: Where is New Zealand?
09:58 AM on 10/24/2008
Yeah, I made the same point earlier RoseBlue. New Zealand appears to have disappeared. It is on the Economist's version however, and is something like 89% Obama.
07:58 AM on 10/24/2008
Hey, where's that red circle area in east Afghanistan/west Pakistan indicating Al Qaida's support for McCain? We all know that because they further their goals ONLY if American is viewed negatively in the Arab world, so that area of the world has to be dark Red! More liberal polling bias!
