On Wednesday's "The View" cohosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar sparred over politics and it got uglier than usual. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg was out sick and unable to intervene, but she defended them Thursday.

Wednesday Elisabeth defended a McCain shirt she wore Tuesday, said she contemplated voting for Obama and told Joy to drink more "Barack Obama Kool Aid" after Joy called Rush Limbaugh a terrorist.

Thursday morning Whoopi was promoting her children's book on "Live with Regis and Kelly" and was asked about the stories of feuds. She downplayed such talk, and explained that women fight differently, "It's never personal." You decide, both clips are below

Joy and Elisabeth:

I don't believe Whoppi for one minute. Joy clearly is losing patience with EH and her constant, insulting, loud talking points.
I understand that they need a republican on the show. But can't they find one who can think for herself? Even Sheri is capable of seeing both sides of the issue most of the time, and she certainly is no democrat.

Actually, she wasn't hired to be a Republican. She was hired to reflect the point of view of a younger age group (she replaced Lisa Ling).

She really is stupid in a very specific way; she and Palin are soul sisters.

Lisa Ling was such a class act. Elisebeth is repulsive.

When Joy Behar made a crack today about Sarah Palin, Elisabeth got offended and pronounced it "too far", crossing her arms over her chest and giving Joy her best disgusted Phyllis Schlafly-like sneer. A pale was cast over the merriment, it was subtle, but perceptible. Where does Elisabeth come off getting offended on behalf of Sarah Palin, and being the arbiter of what others can or can't make jokes about?

At another moment in today's program, she interrupted Whoopi, talked over Whoopi. Poor Sherri couldn't get a word in to the point where Whoopi stepped in twice to quiet everyone (Elisabeth) to let Sherri speak.

It's not just her political perspective that annoys me, but it's how she goes about imposing her views to the exclusion of others being able to express theirs.

I'm a 40 something woman and have been through a few things in my life thus far, I don't want a young woman telling me how I should think. Joy is older and wiser. I think Joy has seen so much more then E.H. It's like the young girls trying to sell you wrinkle cream at the make-up counter. E.H. knows much less then we think. E.H. has been living in the bubble and has not had a hard knock ever. If she tears up, she thinks that makes her equal to Joy, or any other woman who cares about this country. Sorry E.H. I've got your number, and so does Joy, and Rosie and all the smart women out here.

What do you mean? Elisabeth had to swallow a bug or two on Survivor. Certainly that level of pain and suffering gives her street cred!! LOL

Speaking as a pinko hippie peacenik liberal, there is something about Elisabeth that grates at me far more than logic should dictate. I hate myself for saying so, but I just want to punch her in the face. I will be so glad when this election is over and we can all decompress.

She certainly brings out the worst in me, too.
That's why I stopped watching the show. I just make sure to catch Joy when she's on LarryKing or BillMaher.

Whoopi said, "Women don't fight like that". That is absolutely not true. Women can take things just as personally as men. As a woman myself, I think her comments were sexist. Some people can let things go, others have more difficulty and it has nothing to do with gender. Pu-lease!!! This whole "we argue but we're "sisters united" crap gets on my nerves.

Thank you for your post. I tried to email The View today and asked the same question. Am I supposed to believe that they are all mature and like each other when I witness just the opposite everyday. Someone really needs to school Hasselbeck on what discussion really is and how to use logic. Can't see that happening. As someone posted earlier, she's a spoiled, self-absorbed, pant-load that just wants to have her way, no matter what.

It might be more accurate to say we argue differently from men and it's not routine in the public discourse to have women doing this type of show. Women may be perceived as upset and personal when men would be labelled aggressive and pompous.
Hope EH will be a repentant rethug 5 Nov and not say a word about fraud....country first! get behind the new pres!

One of the reasons that political discourse in our country has deevolved into rancor, where expressing different opinions lead to death threats and violence, is because there are no positive role models on the air demonstrating healthy and productive conflict resolution.

People spent more of their day watching television and being programmed with bad communication habits.

Putting a Dr. Phil or some other relationship expert on the air for a segment on how to get along with others when they are hawking their books isn't what I'm talking about. People need to see it, people arguing healthily and regularly, in action regularly, before they can do it.

It would go a long way to a world without war.

Trying to pretend things are not getting personal on the View is laughable.

It is pretty ugly out there and I know from personal experience. My husband and I have just lost a 20 year friendship and business relationship with some very conservative friends. When we couldn't stomach the idea that we couldn't question what Bush does because he is "a man of god" our friendship and business relationship took a turn for the worst. We do not speak to each other any longer. My husband was supposed to take a job with them a month ago.

I also have a friend who lived in Arizona and now lives in North Carolina. Her and I got into a heated argument because she connects Obama to the black militants of the sixties, and she also went so far as to suggest that liberal thinkers shouldn't really be allowed to live in the US. Of course the word "socialist" got thrown around alot as well.

Then there is my farrier who takes care of my horses shoes, although he is a life long Democrat and Hillary supporter he believes that Obama haits white people and is anti-American.

Finally, there is my stepmother who asked me if I would vote for a muslim president.

So, the View is simply reflecting reality. It is very ugly out there.

I too have lost friends and family members due to the fact that I just could not stomach their self-imposed ignorance any longer. It is very ugly, and I fear it is going to get even uglier for a long time to come.

I saw the show about the t-shirt controvery and am very surprised Barbara Walters, too, fails to understand why it was shocking and offensive to many.

When I saw Elisabeth wearing the t-shirt the day earlier, it was as if a minister at a church were wearing one like it (or one saying, 'Obama Nation') to deliver a sermon from the pulpit.

I don't think I would have been offended at all had each of the others worn a pro-Obama, a pro-Nader, a pro-Barr t-shirt, fair and equal time being given by a network television program to all of the candidates.

Shame on Barbara Walters, Bill Getty and ABC for not doing it on their own, or preventing Elisabeth from going in front of the cameras wearing that t-shirt.

Had the fairness doctrine which mandated equal time on the public's airwaves (given to corporations to broadcast for profit, theirs, not ours) been in place, that's what would have happened.

If Barack Obama wins the election, I am hoping that reinstating the fairness doctrine is one of the first items on the Democrats' agenda.

YES! YES! YES! I've noticed we don't hear much about the fairness doctrine anymore, from any of the parties.

I would love for the Obama's to appear on the show just to shut that Hasselwreck chick up. She is all about talking points, The FBI are not concerned about his relationship with Ayers nor are they looking for him. But she is good for ratings nothing else.

Each of the Obamas have been on The View, and after Michelle was on, at a luncheon during the RNC convention, Elisabeth gave a speech introducing Cindy Mc where she made a crack about Cindy appearing on The View without a Do-Not-Ask list of questions, like some people, implying Michelle Obama had "something to hide". http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/10/elisabeth-hasselbeck-rips_n_125309.html

Joy Behar was asked about that on Larry King Live and she didn't know what Elisabeth was talking about, but I never heard if Elisabeth was asked about that or if they explained that on The View. An explanation and a retraction should have been broadcast everywhere.

oh whoopi, PUH-LEEEZE!!!! you don't have to be THIS diplomatic and impartial.....the whole point of the show is to have a POINT OF VIEW.......not that you have to act like rosie o'donnell (who i loved) but at least express yourself and tell the TRUTH once in a while!!!!!!

I totally agree with you. Whoopi wastes so much time talking about how much they all love each other, how it's never personal, blah, blah, blah. The truth would be a nice change for once.

Ms. Hasselback is a product of her ex-hubby by the way is she that rich and wants to get free taxes 8 more years !!!! LOL !!!

I like Joy's wit, I just wish she would do more research. She very often misses opportunities because she hasn't done her homework, or says something wrong or incomplete.

And as for Elisabeth's ex-husband, what are you talking about? Elisabeth has never been divorced. She is an uber-right wing evangelical who doesn't believe in divorce. She and her husband were sweethearts in college. Did she and Tim get divorced and I didn't hear about it? If so, I apologize.

I emailed Joy at The View, back when you could do so individually, and suggested she hire someone to research the neocon talking points for that day so she'd be better prepared and stop missing the opportunities to call Hasselbleeeeck out on her lies.
