NEW YORK — Republican John McCain is not going to make his election night remarks in the traditional style _ at a podium standing in front of a sea of campaign workers jammed into a hotel ballroom. Oh, the throng of supporters will hold the usual election night party at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix on the evening of Nov. 4.

But the Republican presidential nominee plans to address another group of supporters and a small group of reporters on the hotel lawn; his remarks will be simultaneously piped electronically to the party inside and other reporters in a media filing center, aides said.

Aides said Thursday that the arrangement was the result of space limitations and that McCain might drop by the election watch party at some other point.

Only a small press "pool" _ mostly those who have traveled regularly with the candidate on his campaign plane, plus a few local Arizona reporters and other guests _ will be physically present when McCain speaks.

Thomas Patterson, a government professor at Harvard's Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, called the arrangement "unusual" but said the campaign may simply be bowing to the reality that the candidate's remarks are geared toward the televised audience rather than those in the hall.

"Addressing your supporters election night is one of those traditions in politics, like where you choose to launch your campaign," Patterson said. "Why wouldn't you want the energy of the crowd? And if you're going to lose, you almost need it even more."

With just 12 days left in the presidential contest, most polls show the Arizona senator trailing Democrat Barack Obama nationally and in most battleground states, although a new AP-GfK poll showed the race tightening a bit in the last few days.

Obama, by contrast, plans to address a giant outdoor celebration election night in Chicago's Grant Park. The event is free and open to the public, but the campaign was charging media organizations a hefty fee for close-in spots on the camera risers and platforms and for cable and wireless Internet at those spots.

The Obama campaign was also charging news organizations $935 per person for a spot in its press filing center, as opposed to $695 per person at the McCain gathering. But as Obama spokesman Bill Burton pointed out, "Anyone credentialed for our filing center will also be able to watch the event live and in person, unlike the McCain event."

Hitler spent his last few days hunkered down with the few familiars who remained loyal. I always hoped Bush would be the one in the bunker at the end as we rooted him out, but I'll take whatever I can get....

Please listen to Senator Obama ........it isn't ovah until it is ovah, don't gloat, don't celebrate, donate, volunteer and educate others. Don't kick Senator McCain or his running mate, defeat them and help others assist you. There is too much work to be done if Sn. Obama wins and there is way too much work if he loses. Please stay focused and complete the job, you can be cocky on Nov. 5th if he wins.

A time for grace and kindness. If McCain loses, which it looks like he may, show some good manners. We are all Americans even the "little jerks" supporting McCain. Oooops. Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Man, he should hold his election night at " Sedona " and prepare
for some soothing mud bath and spiritual healing in one of them
resorts after the " a.." whipping he's gonna get from the
Obaminator. What a joke of political life, a supposedly war hero,
politician veteran and a " maverick "getting beat by a youngster...
Is this all them republicans can do now. What a bunch of loosers.
The average Joe is finally wisening up to them except for that
dum head of Joe the Plumber...

Howard Fineman, Chris Matthews talked about Obama's rallies today, they talked about how much love there is for Obama and how kind we all are to each other and the mixed crowds and it looked like a Norman Rockwell painting, Very cool.
I don't see that at McCain Palin rallies, there is just so much hate and division going on. sad as you can count the people on two hands of different races there. Even at the RNC there were so very few black people when yoy seen one on camera they kept showing him over and over. Even Sherry from the View commented on it.

Yeah. Those McCain/Palin rallies are becoming cathartic exhibitions of a stage of grief, anger.

The people who attend will need Obama to pay for the therapy they need for attending such an event.

Yeah, because as we all know, $900 will challenge the bottom lines of Viacom (owns CBS), GE (owns NBC), Disney (owns ABC), News Corp (owns Fox), Time Warner (owns CNN) and C-Span. Boy, what a bunch of put upon victims the media is. I guess they aren't so elite after all.

I made phone calls for the Obama campaign here in CO tonight, and spoke to an undecided voter, male, age 67, who brought up possible communist ties with the guy who trained Obama as an organizer, Wright and Ayers. I addressed these issues with him. Then he brought up 'redistribution of wealth.' I told him that when we tax people, then do things for the good of all, such as roads, education, etc., that is redistribution of wealth. Then we talked about elitism, and how Barack and Michelle both came up from relative poverty, did the right things, worked hard and only recently paid off their student loans. You know Barack has a 10-year-old pair of dress slacks he still wears? In the end, this gentleman was leaning toward Obama, and told me he'd most likely vote for him. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, and the USSR in 1991, of its own weight. This argument no longer works.

Ask and you shall receive:

The Comprehensive Nuclear Threat Reduction provision

Working with Sen. Hagel and Rep. Adam Schiff, Obama authored this provision, which would require the president to develop a comprehensive plan for ensuring that all nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material at vulnerable sites around the world are secure by 2012 from the threats that terrorists have shown they can pose.

A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

"It is imperative that we build and sustain a truly global effort under an aggressive timeline to secure, consolidate, and reduce stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material to keep them out of the wrong hands. The comprehensive nuclear threat reduction plan required by this provision is an important step in that effort," Obama said of the provision.

Here if you need more I have a few other things Obama has done... I hope this will answer your questions...Senator Obama has introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.
His record is in fact quite impressive for a junior Senator from Illinois.
Most of his legislative effort has been in the areas of:
Energy Efficiency and Climate Change (25 bills)
Health care (21 bills) and public health (20 bills)
 Consumer protection/labor (14 bills)
The needs of Veterans and the Armed Forces (13 bills)
Congressional Ethics and Accountability (12 bills)
 Foreign Policy (10 bills)
 Voting and Elections (9 bills)
 Education (7 bills)
 Hurricane Katrina Relief (6)
 The Environment (5 bills)
 Homeland Security (4 bills)
 Discrimination (4 bills)
If you make less than 250,000 your taxes will not increase
If you make less than 150,000 your taxes will be further reduced.

Well, give McCain credit for one thing: at least he is planning his concession speech in advance, unlike the minute by minute flip flopping, changes of direction that would rival a drunken race car driver and an inability to get on the same page as his VP nominee.

So now he will have a chance to do something halfway professionally.

It's still a pathetic way to go, though.

Helllooooo!! THIS story was debunked nearly as soon as it hit the wires. According to electronic media OTHER than the Internet--McCain WILL be inside with his supporters. The 'gathering outside' is basically for the overflow from inside. The 'gathering outside' will be watching what's going on inside on a strategically placed big screen TV.

Pravda? Fox news single handedly led this nation into a war based on lies. The right wing radio hate machine is going into meltdown it's spinning so hard. Election night will show the corporatist media hacks as the lying scum-bags they are and as hard as the conservative media will try, it will not be able to delegitimize the voice of the American people. After that the American Jihad can scurry away from the light of the truth like the cockroaches they are.
