NEW YORK — Scott McClellan, President Bush's former press secretary, says he is backing Barack Obama for president.

McClellan made the endorsement during a taping of Comedian D.L. Hughley's new show that is premiering on CNN this weekend. The former Bush administration official said he wanted to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done.

He's the second former Bush administration figure this week to publicly back Obama, following former Secretary of State Colin Powell. McClellan caused bitterness among his former co-workers with a tell-all book that criticized Bush.

When my son heard McClellan endorsed Obama he said some of his heroes are bad guys gone good. And when one of my racist friends watched a tape of McClellan saying it, he gave me knuckles.

Your son is a smart one....I couldn't agree with him more. Just one more refreshing political nail in the coffin of the candidacy that should have died in 2000. Thank you Mr. McLellan, for joining us in the first bloodless American revolution.

Obama wants the entire country to come together... to strip party lines, color lines, economic lines..
McCain and his impatient brother Joe who thought sitting in traffic for 15 minutes was worthy of calling 911, only wants to promote division! Obama will accept all those who are prepared and ready to turn this country around for the greater good!

11 days and a wake up!

Their jumping ship by the droves, that's ok, even though I detest a lot of them, there is a lot of room aboard the Obama boat!

Has there ever been a Democratic presidential candidate in recent memory who has received the support of so many prominent GOP politicians/ members of GOP administrations/ principled conservatives? I'm thinking about Dwight D. Eisenhower's granddaughter, Colin Powell, Buckley Jr., Lincoln Chafee, that former Minnesota governor whose name escapes me, and others. I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn't amount to a hill of beans, but it is somewhat reassuring to know that there are still some people out there who are capable of independent thought and assessment and not merely swearing party allegiance reflexively or out of some firmly ingrained sense of loyalty...

Another intellectual conservative jumping ship. Thins are beginning to look very bleak for the GOP. I predict David Duke will make a resurgent into conservative politics because it's those kinds of people that the GOP are now catering too and quite frankly the GOP has being reduced to a party of fanatical evangelicals and closeted racists. Why would people like Brooks, McClellan, Powell, etc want to be associated with that kind of party.

I'll give credit to Scott for writing the book & exposing the Bush WH. He could have gotten into a lot more details & hopefully will when the trials begin.

A wise coworker once told me that the first ones to jump off a sinking ship are most likely to survive. Of course he was talking about companies during the dot-com bust, but McClellan jumped early off Bush's boat and screamed "Thank God" as he did it.

Powell jumped first, but being the person of character he is, never had to write a book about his experience.

I don't care, he's been tarred with the bush brush and has no credibility left. So, he wrote a book. He COULD have spoke out if he truly had grits.

Hey, that's useful. I've lost track of all the Republicans who are backing Obama. I keep expecting to see the headline In A Stunning And Unexpected Campaign Move, McCain Announces He's Endorsing Obama.

October surprise!

Breaking news............Sen. John McCain has just endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States. He asserted that he has just recovered from the mental fog that has impeded his ability to think logically, and that he will be voting for the Illinois Senator in the upcoming election. More to follow.

I just received an advance copy of McCain's endorsement speech:

"My friends, throughout my entire life, as a bomber pilot, POW, United States Senator, and now presidential candidate, I have strived to put country first and serve a cause greater than my own self-interest. It is in keeping with that commitment that I have decided to endorse my rival, Senator Barack Obama, for president. I understand this is a highly unusual step to take, but honor and principle demand that I make it. Senator Obama has shown intelligence, grace under pressure, calm in crisis, and the ability to think on his feet. I am convinced that he has the wisdom, presence of mind, and most of all, the temperament required to guide this great nation through troubled waters. I ask my supporters to give Senator Obama their prayers and support. Thank you and may God continue to bless America."
