To you right wing, "Christians" who support intolerance, remember God is our only judge. Let God deal with those who choose abortion over birth control. They will pay the price in years of guilt and shame. Our job is to minister to them with love, not condemnation. And let God judge persons who are gay. Ask any gay person - they did not choose this lifestyle. Their orientation is the result of a fallen world. God does not assign degrees to sin - we do. What is the difference between a gay person's lifestyle and a heterosexual's choice to have sex outside of marriage or commit adultery? NONE! Let he who is without sin may cast the first stone... oh, wow, where are all the Pharisees, they turned tail and ran! God is not pleased with self righteous, smug attitudes in his children, especially his followers.

Bravo to Ron Howard, Andy Griffith, and Henry Winkler. These guys have absolutely NO economic reason to even consider voting for Obama, yet they see the condition in which the disastrous Bush years have left this country. Four years ago, I wore black to work in mourning for our nation when the constituency elected Bush for another four. (Or was is stolen again???!) I was in mourning that we could be like sheep, so easily led down a path headed straight for disaster. I said that Bush would bring this country to its knees. And he did, while his cronies have pocketed billions. And so we the middle class taxpayers are left holding the bag! At least some people who have plenty, like Ron, Andy and Henry, think enough of the the rest of us middle class Americans to try to help make things better. I pray, (yes, I am a Christian) for God's will in this election. I believe that He wants us to all be blessed, not just a select few who MIGHT someday let the blessing 'TRICKLE DOWN (HUH?), YEAH RIGHT!

Thank God people are finally getting it, and in this case it's Ron Howard, Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler. Yes, I keep hearing how this brilliant man with solid ideas and direction is a "socialist" who will cavort with terrorists and lead us down the path to sure destruction, but fortunately, I have a brain and can discern that Barack Obama brings to this country something we haven't had in a long time- true intelligence.

So republicans, keep up the attacks, stretch the remarks, try to make Obama into a Muslim if you can (and don't forget to then claim he attend's a Christian church run by Reverend Wright in the same sentence). It doesn't matter- intelligent people will remember where the country was eight years ago when Bill Clinton, who btw was supposed to do the same thing, left office. A budget surplus, no war, a thriving economy... and compare it to the disaster that has been the last eight years. Yes, we'll vote this year... and bring America back to greatness.

Claudia Jean is right. I apologize for beating up on little Opie Cunningham! He is a God!!! What was I thinking? Oh yeah that's right I was thinking I should listen to my heart and remind myself I refuse to vote for somebody that is for abortion and supports gay marriage, and socialist-style government. Remember honey, when you point a finger at someone there are 3 pointing back at you!!!

The whole idea of Barack Obama's politics being "Socialist" is a ridiculous notion. Our whole tax-based government system has elements of what you're referring to as "Socialism" in it. Is John McCain going to suddenly eliminate taxes? No. He will continue to do what every President does, which is take tax money from everyone, and then decide what programs to put it towards, same as Barack Obama would do, same as Palin or Biden or Gore or Bush.

No one is "for abortion", it isn't about that at all. I'm not for abortion. I can't imagine a situation where I would make that choice, but I'm not about to take away someone else's right to choose. What they do is between them and their chosen deity.

On the one hand, you don't want "socialist-style" government to dictate how your money is spent, but you're perfectly happy to have government control personal, moral and religious decisions? Making abortions illegal isn't going to stop them, it's just going to create an environment where those who have the means will have access to safe abortions and those who don't will risk their lives in "back alley" procedures.

It's ironic that most of the anti-abortion crowd is also opposed to gun control based on the premise that "if guns were illegal, only criminals would have guns". If guns are outlawed, we'd still have guns and gun crimes, but the gun trade would be driven underground. The "logic" of outlawing abortion seems to assume that the effect would be different.

Gay marriage: Who cares? Marriage is both a religious and civil institution. If your church chooses not to allow same-sex marriage, fine, but the government should not be in the business of denying equal rights to all people, regardless of what anyone thinks of their sexual orientation.

The clip amused me. Made me smile. And I liked the very respectful way in which it ended -- essentially, this is how we feel but you need to go out, vote (and make sure you do it with your head and your heart.) You can't really be more respectful to all within a video intended to support one candidate...

What scares me the most is the commentary posted on this board by so many.
In their attempts to discredit Ron Howard, bemoan Hollywood -- these psoters prove themselves as close-minded, clueless, unworldly, pretentious, conceited, judgmental and ill-informed as they boldly claim Ron Howard to be. These are the people that frighten me about our future. It is positively scary the propaganda being spewed...

A tax payer that will vote for a Democrat (Obama), is like a chicken that votes for Col. Sanders, why don't these hollywood types understand. jwljr37

Ron makes enough money to be in the small group of people whose taxes will increase under Obama. Perhaps he's just a lot more patriotic than those who think that all taxes are bad. Taxes are the fuel that runs Social Security, Medicare, defense, transportation, education, etc...you know, all those "socialist" programs.

Understand this: What's crazy is the number of middle class and lower income voters who supported Bush and the economic policies that helped the richest at the expense of the working class. You may have gotten a couple of hundred bucks in federal taxes back, but overall, the financial burden on the middle and lower income folks has gone way up. Hundreds of billions in tax cuts, overwhelming benefiting those who needed it least, were partially offset by cuts in federal spending for programs that assist states and cities. That has resulted in higher local and state taxes and fees which far exceed any "tax break" that most people got. How many people can honestly say that they are better off now than they were 8 years ago?

No one likes paying taxes - however, enough is enough. The national debt will be over 11 Trillion dollars when W leaves office - it was 5.5 when he entered. Because of the Bush tax cuts the following is TRUE - someone who makes 300,000 in DIVIDEND income (i.e. owns stock - creates NO jobs) will pay ~45,000 in federal taxes... If Joe the self-employed plumber (who hires other plumbers and thus creates jobs) will pay ~128,000 in federal taxes (income, social security & medicare) THUS under Bush, Joe the plumber will pay almost 2.8 times as much tax as the person who already has wealth. Talk about redistributing the wealth. (up the ladder). I thought the American dream was to climb the ladder of success, though Bush thinks that those on top of the ladder should pay MORE THAN HALF AS MUCH as those trying to climb it..

Obama is not going to produce the change that many are hoping for. If you might apply some common sense and go get your information elsewhere other than the left-winged media outlets, this might help you get a better grip of reality. You have been manipulated by people who hate this country and want to see our downfall... and of course you know what that means? No more carefree hours, no more doing the things you wanna do when you wanna do 'em... no more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I love your work, but your political view is misinformed.
Now get back to work and do what you do best... make movies!

I thought the video was wonderful.

I have heard people mention the term liberal with great distain. I'm a liberal, but I don't drive a Volvo, drinks starbucks, eat sushi etc. The conservatives have mislabeled us and given us characteristics that are far from the truth. I am a liberal and proud of it. I am tolerant of others religions, life styles, politics, love the country, support the troops (support them by bringing them home), I am an elitist (I want the very best, brightest, moral, and honest person in the Whitehouse, on the supreme court, in the congress, flying any plane that I am on, drilling into my head, repairing my heart, fixing my car, teaching my kids and dealing with global everything. I am also in support of R v W and a pro choice.

I am tired of the religious right and conservatives shoving their brand of morality down my throat. I am a liberal and respect your right to think and live the way you wish. I don't have the time to shove anything down your throat. Get a life.

Amen. Scariest thing is to see some of the posters here.
Civics, civil discourse, the ability to disagree without being disagreeable... basic decency is clearly at a very low premium these days.

Well spoken, both of you!

Genius. It's funny and positive, something that's been missing from the campaign ads, especially from the Republicans. The ad also features three people who have voted for the GOP. The underlying message of this ad is that times have changed and that 40-50 years ago, whites in Mayberry nor Fresno (the model town for Happy Days) would be aghast of even the though of a Black person running for president but today Opie, Sheriff Taylor and the Fonz are voting for a black man for president. How times have changed; and for the better. And finally, people ask what kind of change Obama represents; first it will mean a Repubican won't be in the White House; the policies of the GOP have been disastrous and as much as McCain says he's not George Bush, he's still a Republican. Some of Bush's speechwriters are working for McCain and no doubt that some folks from the current administration will be in an McCain White House. Second, an Obama presidency will mark the first time in nearly 30 years that neither a Bush or Clinton is in the White House.

I agree. It is heartbreaking to see beloved characters we grew up with now being used to promote a shallow political agenda ...the open-ended, undefined concept of "change"!

I have no doubt you are sincere, Ron, and it pains me to say this but couldn't you at least have given us some actual logic behind your emotionally charged exploitation of sentamentalism in this blatant Obama campaign ad? Exactly what kind of "change" do you really think Obama stands for if not socialism and anti-traditional family values?

Obama's values appeal to San Fransisco liberals. Do you really think they appeal to the Andy Taylors of America? Do you think Andy Taylor or Barney Fife would have sat through one sermon from Obama's pastor, Rev Jeremiah Wright, as he screamed: "God-dxxn America, that's in the Bible"? I don't. Would Sheriff Taylor have approved of Obama's association with William Ayers, a man who set bombs, stomps on the American flag and still thinks he hasn't done enough? Would your "Pa" have applauded when Obama criticized small town people like Andy and Barney as naively "clinging to their guns and religion"?

I think the greatest irony in all this is the fact that for many of us Mayberry embodies and symbolizes the values most of us outside of Hollywood hold dear. Now we come to find that the actors behind those characters don't have a clue how the characters they once portrayed so well really think. That's just sad.

Typical Hollywood.....afraid someone might get into politics and bring back some common decency
to some of the movies that are full of nudity....obscenities....etc.

No...I am not a prude....but I don't need to watch such explicit movie scenes to know what is going on.

Don't underestimate the public. Most of us know why Hollywood is always for the liberal left of center.

There is no 'typical Hollywood' -- that's just another empty term tossed out along with a dozen other buzzwords by the right wing and many of their supporters.
John McCain is not going to fix the movies being made. One would certainly hope he'd have much better things to do should be elected into office than to deal with the film industry.
Also, if you readily admit you don't watch such explicit movie scenes, how can you really know what you're talking about or what it going on? Oh, that's right -- you just follow the party line?

Don't overestimate your role as part of the public. Don't speak for the public. Don't claim to be "most of us" unless you're speaking as the president of the BerryCooda Posters society.

Now, please -- enlighten us. WHY is Hollywood always for the liberal left of center? No, really. Explain your veiled insights and insinuations.... Please.

Just for the record this mama did not vote for Obama. My comment to you Ron Howard/ Opie ,it's time for you to grow up. You're not the cute little boy from Happy Days anymore. That was a time when things were simpler. IWe all know that Opie and Andy would not have had to discuss AIDS ,or here's a big one, OBORTION. Opie would not have even heard the word much less had to talk about it. If that had been the venue of Happy Days who would have even watched. The thing you're trying to reproduce here is the innocense of the Happy Days show and cast. Now you are backing a person whose views would not have been tolerated then and shouldn't be now. You balk at some one shooting a moose but apparently don't have a second thought about butchering an unborn child even if that child is minutes away from being born and able to live outside the womb. SHAME ON YOU OPIE, ANDY, FONZE. SHAME ON YOU RON, ANDY , HENRY. You should be displaying that kind of shock at the thought of a child being murdered that you are showing for a moose being shot.

Cute - I think we could have all done without the close-up nose hair clipping though.
08:40 PM on 10/26/2008
I'll take this over Elizabeth Hasselbeck screaming like a hyena at a campaign rally anyday. Classic.
07:54 PM on 10/26/2008
It is sad that I grew up on Mayberry and now to see my "heros" turn socialist is heartbreaking. I never thought Andy would support abortion and socialism, he always seemed to want to work for his hard-earned dollar so Opie could have a better life - not to hand it over to someone not willing or interested in working just as hard. Should the liberals win this thing we can count on waving white flags, more near-born babies being aborted and spreading the wealth like socialists...what a sad America that would be...goodbye Mayberry.

Buzzword. Propaganda. Robotic kneejerk posting. Throwing around words you don't truly understand doesn't make you appear smart nor will it change reality. Nice try...
