Sarah Palin Snl

The "Saturday Night Live" costume designer Wednesday night revealed the struggle he had in dressing Sarah Palin: she wanted to wear nicer clothes than they had picked out for her, reflecting the new image she has carefully constructed on the campaign trail.

While Palin's transformation from hockey mom to fashion plate has raised eyebrows, her "SNL" character, played by Tina Fey, has remained firmly in the red jacket. And according to Women's Wear Daily's Irin Carmon, "SNL" costume designer Tom Broecker said Wednesday night that dressing Palin for last Saturday's cameo required a compromise:

Of Palin, Broecker said, "In speaking with her, I had to get her to understand why she needed to wear the same thing as Tina [Fey]. We had gone off and created it for the first time a month ago, a look we identified as Sarah Palin. She had moved on in her own image of herself. I said, 'I know you've moved on you're wearing tighter clothes, more black but this is the character of Sarah Palin.''

The compromise, he said, was Palin returning in her own clothes the second time she appeared on the show to cheer on Amy Poehler's Palin-themed rap.

Sarah Palin dressed in red for the opening skit (per "SNL" wishes):

Then, later, Sarah Palin dressed in black (the compromise):

Do we really want a President who won't get out of bed to answer the Red Phone until she's got her makeup on and her hair done?

No we want a President like John McCain, but if you think Obama needs make-up and his hair done, then more power to him. LOL, is that kind of like the Bailout phone call? Call me if you need me, I'll be there...........
Umm, now to answer your question about maybe the Vice President and answering the red phone, what a Rhetorical question.
Grow up!

We do not want a president like John McCain. There is a lot of things apparently you don't know about him - the democrats didn't sling mud like the Republicans.

Dude, both Obama and Biden wear their own clothes - so, zero clothing budget needed for them.

'Nuff said.

Re: "The Bailout phone call."
I think McCain's reaction is much preferred: Running around with his hair on fire, racing to Washington ( with a couple of stops on the way) only to sit like a brick during the proceedings. The good senator reacts in two modes: Manic or Listless.

The only call she ever got at 3 a.m. was when a moose knocked over a trash can at City Hall. She seems like a nice enough person but puh-leez people, quit trying to pretend she is the least bit qualified to be president. One respected leader after another, on both sides of the aisle, have called McCain on his mavericky decision to pick her. Which means, by the way, HE is to blame for subjecting her to ridicule.

Unless she is mentally incapacitated (a strong possibility) or a minor, SHE is responsible for herself and whatever befalls her. She could have declined the offer to be VP when offered stating any number of viable reasons. A personality like hers wouldn't do that however as she is all about the pageant and will always be all about the pageant. Let's face it. The pageant circuit isn't about building a solid rocket booster. It is about hair, makeup, smiling, clothes, and a quick, memorized speech on wolrd peace. To infer more is to insult one's intelligence. I am not anti-pageant necessarily but it is what it is.
To believe McCain chose her is naive thinking, sloreader. With a little digging, it is apparent he wanted Lieberman. The kings of the party said otherwise and poof, Sarah Palin appears and the world can once again laugh at what buffoons our officials are.
The only 3:00 AM phone calls she got were from the Wasila police dept telling her to come bail out her son who could either remain in jail or go into the service. She chose the latter knowing sleepy Americans would believe her patriotic. She is disgraceful and whoever supports her is equally complicit.

I'v e heard people say that she "seems" like a nice enough person. I completely disagree. More an dmore she seems like a horrible, obnoxiously entitled person who bliks her own state for trips, per diems, etc. Who uses her office for her own very personal vendettas. Who does not only have a very limited world view but works to impose those completely off the wall ideals on others. And worse, she's simply a stupid, mean, hypocritical woman who has no idea how stupid, mean or hypocritical she is. I could go on.

I personally do not care who is on SNL being mocked, as long as it is all in fun. The funny thing is that NBC could not even leave the skit on u-tube about the bailout because it was too truthful towards what the Dems. did to cause the economy mess we are in. If you look at all the top donators on Wall street they are heavily in bed with the Dems.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama ran ahead of New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D) and former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R) on their home turf in the first quarter, raising cash from the biggest investment banks on Wall Street.

The Illinois senator raised $479,209 from employees at the banks in the quarter, according to Federal Election Commission filings

Oh please. Obama's been in the news all last week for having such a huge % of his money coming in small donations from millions of private citizens. He broke all kinds of records for being funded by the little guy. (Full disclosure: I sent $20.)

Feel free to pick up a newspaper & educate yourself, yo.

My thoughts are...I can't stomach this woman!!!! If she's to be the (shoe-in) female in the political limelight...it's an embarrassment for the USA! She has no foundation to carry the office of VP of the United States of America, especially with the predicament our nation is in! Oh my bad, she does have foundation...plenty on her face...she's good to go there! REF: Her make up artist is paid TOP $$$ to pretty the pitbull in skirt! If she's to be representative of breaking the glass ceiling for the movement of women...then I rather select Hilary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Janet Reno, Carol Moselely-Brown or Maxine Waters...ALL DAY LONG! This bimbo needs to go back to her backyard...you know the same backyard she waves to Russia from!

How do you know for sure? Don't you suspect for a moment that possibly, maybe this "hockey mom" has a fairly high IQ ... high enough to make it out of the PTA to the mayorship of the city, and out of the mayorship to the governorship of the largest state in the nation?

Don't you suspect, for the tiniest of moments, that how she comes off on TV might not be indicative of her intelligence? Or does the ability to act on TV mean more than the actual accomplishments, the real executive experience, the real mileage on her tires as a governor?

HuffPo's find it so easy to deride Palin for being a hick, but the real question is ...

How do you know for sure that you're not just being mean-spirited toward an accomplished woman?

Seriously - how do you know that you're not just being mean?

simple: she didn't understand the question that was being asked of her in the debates, about whether the office of vice president is an executive or legislative office, and used the question as an opportunity to talk about what she wanted to talk about.

does that mean she's a hick, or uneducated? no. does it mean that she may very well understand articles 1 and 2 of the u.s. constitution, but what she had to say was far more important than the question that was being asked? maybe. but does her refusal to answer a basic constitutional question articulate to me, a voter, her understanding of the constitution?

no. it does not. i'm clearly entitled to assume that someone who refuses to articulate a concise response either doesn't understand the question that was being asked, doesn't have a valid answer, or is far too peremptory in refusing to answer it.

did she understand what was being asked of her? i'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she did. is sarah palin peremptory? she doesn't appear to be. therefore:

U: doesn't understand
V: doesn't have valid answer
P: peremptory

U or V or P
not U
not P
therefore V

standard symbolic logic.

does it make me mean to apply simple, standard, well-proven logic to her understanding of constitutional knowledge? i don't think so. does that make her unintelligent? no. it just means that she doesn't understand the nature of the job that she's applying for.

People are going to be tough on her not only because of the importance of the office, but because McCain presented her as the best qualified candidate in the Republican Party...a title that is not befitting of her because of the current accumulation of media, scripted and unscripted.
At this point she must feel that McCains obvious patronizing of her has caused all the negativity but in doing so he reinforces the idea that she is nothing but eye candy and not to be taken seriously.

Did you really have to use the term "dumb broad"? Point taken, but watch the terminology. Okay?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:44 PM on 10/24/2008

Oops! somebody's real thought process is showing. If you are going shamelessly attack GOVERNOR Palin, make it substantive, rather than just calling her a "dumb broad."

Quite frankly, I see this as a recurring issue. The worst was the group of people wearing those t-shirts referring to GOVERNOR Palin as the "C" word - very little media coverage none-the-less. If people would have shown up to an Obama function with the "N" word on t-shirts, I think things would have played out much differently.

Who cares about the population of Alaska, it's big in other way than just geography - one of the biggest budgets of any state in the union. GOVERNOR Palin manages an ADMINISTRATION of STATE GOVERMENT as an EXECUTIVE. She manages a huge state budget and was able to RETURN $1200.00 of hard working TAX PAYER'S money back to them (the TAX PAYERS, not just anyone with a pulse in Alaska)

No matter how you look at her hair or how she dresses, it is incontrovertible that she has more EXECUTIVE experience than Obama (and even Biden AND McCain for that matter).

However the "dumb broad" comment is the best. Realitychecks, in your rant you have been able to offend you brothers (and sisters) in arms and help me to prove my point. When you can formulate a cogent argument against GOVERNOR Palin please post it (sans the denIgratory sexist language).

Hate to fall back on tired lines, but it is just so damn appropriate...
"You can put blahblah on the blahblah, but the blahblah is still a blahblah!"
No matter if it is red, black or sweetcheeks tight...not that it didn't get McCain's attention even before the transformation!}..wink, wink!

Has anybody noticed that Sarah Palin is the only candidate who keeps her children out of school? What does this say about how she values education?

If you had any idea how poorly the public education system in this country really is, you'd probably keep your kids out of school, too! The rise in the rate of home-schooling has become astronomical thanks to the fact that, although our public school system is the most overfunded in the world, it's also one of the most pathetic.

Well my kids are in public school, oldest is taking college coures his junior year. Im not afraid of vaccinations. Im sure Sarah and the first successionist have plenty of time to home school while their campaigning all day and the kids are on stage with them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:49 PM on 10/24/2008

I am guessing that either you don't have school age children, have no children at all, or have your kids in private or parochial schools. Unless you have children in a public school, you wouldn't understand how underfunded many of them are. Despite this, a lot of kids do quite well. My daughter is taking college classes in the 11th grade as well. Mainly, because the school can't afford to staff and funding for the advanced classes for some of the kids to be in.

Palin is obviously not that into education. She isn't encouraging her "son in law to be" to finish his last year of high school. Why would she care about keeping her kids on the trail and on stage? They might help her ratings! Isn't that the most important thing?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:03 AM on 10/25/2008

The reason why so many of our schools are failing is because parents don't care and model anti-intellectualism in front of their children. Also, there is no discipline at home, otherwise, that would translate into students (children) who obey their teachers and who are serious about their studies. Schooling with others develops skills in getting along with others in social situations We have to make education exciting and something we admire, and not be a put-down. Schooling is not day-care, nor are teachers baby-sitters.

Palin, In regards to the media reaction to the expense being spent on clothes and makeup..........

"I think that those reporters asking those questions should come to some of our rallies and ask some of those in the crowd why it is they are enthused," she said, adding that the crowds see her as representing "hardworking, everyday American families."

HUH???? Was I hallucinating when I read that reporters were banned from the rallies, so they couldn't talk to anyone in the crowds?
