The "Saturday Night Live" costume designer Wednesday night revealed the struggle he had in dressing Sarah Palin: she wanted to wear nicer clothes than they had picked out for her, reflecting the new image she has carefully constructed on the campaign trail.

While Palin's transformation from hockey mom to fashion plate has raised eyebrows, her "SNL" character, played by Tina Fey, has remained firmly in the red jacket. And according to Women's Wear Daily's Irin Carmon, "SNL" costume designer Tom Broecker said Wednesday night that dressing Palin for last Saturday's cameo required a compromise:

Of Palin, Broecker said, "In speaking with her, I had to get her to understand why she needed to wear the same thing as Tina [Fey]. We had gone off and created it for the first time a month ago, a look we identified as Sarah Palin. She had moved on in her own image of herself. I said, 'I know you've moved on you're wearing tighter clothes, more black but this is the character of Sarah Palin.''

The compromise, he said, was Palin returning in her own clothes the second time she appeared on the show to cheer on Amy Poehler's Palin-themed rap.

Sarah Palin dressed in red for the opening skit (per "SNL" wishes):

Then, later, Sarah Palin dressed in black (the compromise):

Really? Yet she defended buying all of these clothes and said "We are not like this." Has this woman ever uttered a single truthful word in her life?

We all have known from the get go that Sarah Palin is a beauty queen. Mirrors, makeup and clothes and center stage are their essence. She is beautiful and smart, in that order. Her selection is an insult to the intelligence of the american people.

Gotcha! We should not jump into conclusion of what one side said. I am not taking sides, but I like to understand better...

The report says... "Nicer"... in what sense? designer? design? or the cut?

Don't raise your anger as I like to know the definition first...
If Palin said... different color... SNL is portraying her, then they should comply...
but if Palin says... a specific designer... then... outrage!

Rest my case... I do not support $150K expenses in the economy, but I do like to find out what the article meant... "Nicer"... I am watching too much of KO and Rachel M

In my mind it doesn't matter. She asked to go on the show. She should be willing to do it on their terms especially the wardrobe. She wasn't on that long and it really shouldn't have mattered. It just shows me that she is vain and not the everyday soccermom down to earth person she pretends to be. She also seems to be about herself and not a team player. She is taking over McCain's campaign. He can't get a word in . If he does she disagrees.

Sorry, you are wrong. She didn't ask to go on the show, she was invited by the show...BIG difference.

"Nice" didn't catch my eye as much as "tighter". She's wearing tighter clothes? Why? What possible reason could there be for Palin to want to appear in clothes which accentuate her figure??

And really, is the McCain campaign really going to stick with the story that Palin "needed" new clothes and she the RNC had to buy them for her?

Last time I checked, she was a governor of a state. Are we really supposed to believe she has no business clothes? She makes over $125,000 as governor, she couldn't buy good eneough clothes to campaign in???

Boy, they REALLY don't get it, do they?

She insulted the costume designer. She's become a fashion snob. She used to say that Patagonia was her favorite brand. Now if it's not Armani, Ralph Lauren or Ferragamo, she doesn't want to wear it. Nicer meant, better made, more expensive, designer clothes. By the way, did you notice her 7 year old carrying a Louis Vuitton bag?

I don't know why she wanted nicer clothes on SNL, because she could have played the MOOSE on SNL.

Frugal AND socialist too....

What else do you call extorting money from oil companies to give directly to citizens of Alaska and using that to buy their votes for the incumbents??

Isn't that redistribution of wealth by Palin??

Her daughter, Piper, was carrying her mother's purse for her....you guys are so transparent in your hatred towards this woman...I detect a lot, and I mean A LOT, of jealousy..

Of course, all the hockey moms have Louis Vitton handbags.

Oh FGS! It has nothing to do with jealousy! I can easily afford a Louis Vuitton purse, but I choose to not waste money on such crap! It's not jealousy, but being practical.

How can someone identify with Joe the Plumber when one carries a purse that costs over a two thousand dollars! Whether it's her purse or her daughter's she does not represent the common person. And I have plenty of friends that carry designer bags and wear designer clothes, but they don't spend $150k on clothes! FGS, can you not see what the real issue is here or are you too blinded by your Palin loving to realize this woman is not a hockey mom, but a climber that will step on anyone to get what she wants?

Jealousy of what?
The rat's nest on the back of her head?
The loooooooooong lantern jaw?
The nasal voice straight out of a cheese grater?
The lack of an ability to actually reason?
The inability to voice an opinion that does't reflect someone else's talking points?
I ask you again, jealousy of what?
You can "detect" all you wish -t here's nothing in or on or around Sarah Palin of which to be jealous.
And, BTW, you're still a tr0ll. I'm definitely not jealous of that.

There is nothing to be jealous of. No brains, no common sense, no humility
no empathy, no sense of fair play. This woman is a embarassment to all women
who have come so far by being intelligent and not playing the sexist card.
I can't stand anything about her or believe anything she says. By the way I
was born in Fairbanks, Alaska and I am ashamed of her and her misconduct!

Lorne Michaels (SNL) was quoted as saying her camp called to get her on the show. Jealous of what?????? I am a hot soccer Mom and I am not running for anything and glad of it!

Image is everything with this candidate. Image is important to most politicians, though. I'm not sure how to read this particular incident but here are ten things Palin's Shopping Fund could've bought: http://newsone.blackplanet.com/elections/10-things-palins-150k-outfits-could-buy/
