Sarah Palin On SNL: Costume Designer Says She Wanted Nicer Clothes

The "Saturday Night Live" costume designer Wednesday night revealed the struggle he had in dressing Sarah Palin: she wanted to wear nicer clothes than they had picked out for her, reflecting the new image she has carefully constructed on the campaign trail.

While Palin's transformation from hockey mom to fashion plate has raised eyebrows, her "SNL" character, played by Tina Fey, has remained firmly in the red jacket. And according to Women's Wear Daily's Irin Carmon, "SNL" costume designer Tom Broecker said Wednesday night that dressing Palin for last Saturday's cameo required a compromise:

Of Palin, Broecker said, "In speaking with her, I had to get her to understand why she needed to wear the same thing as Tina [Fey]. We had gone off and created it for the first time a month ago, a look we identified as Sarah Palin. She had moved on in her own image of herself. I said, 'I know you've moved on ­ you're wearing tighter clothes, more black ­ but this is the character of Sarah Palin.''

The compromise, he said, was Palin returning in her own clothes the second time she appeared on the show to cheer on Amy Poehler's Palin-themed rap.

The entire RNC and McCain campaign are SUCH idiots. The only difference between a mid-level store and an overpriced designer label is the price. Palin and her handlers could have gone to Macys, for example, and purchased clothes of similar quality. Even if those $2500 jackets were slightly better, who can tell the difference on a camera set on soft focus to hide her wrinkles?

Does the McCain campaign blindly equate price with quality? Or did Palin believe that she could keep all these goodies and decided to go on a wild shopping spree on somebody else's credit card?

Sarah was brave and a good sport. She is a good dancer too! Plenty of rhythm. Now, just because we are voting Obama does not mean that this lady does not have good characteristics.

BUT - she is a beloved mother and wife and has really beautiful children. Piper is a real darling of a girl.
I would hate to see all this crush the delightful spirit of that little child. And Trig is a sweetheart.

Bristol and Willow are dignified and loyal.

Don't hurt these people more than you have to - great family- I don't agree with them 90% of the time, by diversity means not just of skin, religion, but thought. That is the FREEDOM America used to affirm.

If her children are hurt in any way by this experience she will have no one to blame but herself. She is parading her children around like trophies when they should be in school. She took Piper into a situation where she was pretty sure she would be booed. She lungs poor trig around like he's a rag doll and takes him into situations that are dangerous for him. Downs children are particularly sensitive to loud noises and prone to get respiratory infections. Knowing that (at least I hope she knows it, since she puts herself forth as an "expert" on special needs children), she still takes him to late night events with large crowds of people who keep him awake, scare him and threaten him with germs). Oh, and lest we forget, she endangered his life by flying 9 hours back to Alaska to give birth just because her husband didn't want his baby born outside of Alaska.

Sorry, Sarah Palin will never be granted a "Mother of the Year Award".

Instead of memorizing comedy skits, why doesn't she try and memorize parts of the constitution that explains what the role of the VP is? She is obviously underqualified and it seems to me she is taking this a bit lightly because I think she knows her ticket will not win. She's haggling over what clothes to wear on a comedy show?
