Bachmann Tapes Apology Ad

The Politico reported today:

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has taped an advertisement apologizing for her televised comments calling Barack Obama anti-American, according to a Republican source familiar with her campaign's decision.

Bachmann campaign spokeswoman Michelle Marston said the campaign will be airing a new advertisement this afternoon, but declined to comment specifically on whether Bachmann would be apologizing in the spot.

The move comes as polling, both public and internal, shows Bachmann rapidly losing ground in her reelection bid. A University of Minnesota poll released today shows Bachmann trailing her Democratic opponent, Elwyn Tinklenberg, 45 percent to 43 percent. Those numbers are consistent with an automated SurveyUSA poll showing Bachmann trailing Tinklenberg 47 percent to 44 percent.

"Once again, our nation is at a crossroads and it's a time for choosing. We could embrace government as the answer to our problems or we can choose freedom and liberty. I may not always get my words right but I know that my heart is right because my heart is for you, for your children and for the blessings of liberty to remain for our great country."

Bachmann does not directly address her comments or apologize to Obama in the ad. Other Republicans in tough spots have been more candid. In 2006, Rep. Don Sherwood (R-PA) apologized in an ad for having an affair. Recently Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL) aired an ad apologizing for going on an Abramoff-funded trip to Scotland:

Because that's where we're heading after their mess of loosening regulations and less gov't programs, job losses and stock market crashes. What we're in right now, is chaos, how can Repubs still argue that less gov't is more beneficial? How do they think roads get built, or bridges get fixed (remember that horrendous bridge collapse in midwest recently, maybe lack of gov't funding didn't help either!) or schools get updated from being built in the '50's?
Dude, ALL Republicans think about is money and making money, Oh and the bible, but only the good parts, well what's good to them.

I live in Bachman's 6th District, which is probably the most conservative (Republican) backwater area of Minnesota and I'm quite sure—much to my dismay—that this fanatic will be reelected. Just as the majority of citizens here will vote for McCain /Palin. Just as they voted twice for Bush.

Check out this Christian radio show with Jan Markell. During this appearance on Markell's show, she talked about how the gay community is after "your children" and that the possibility of including gays in the institution of marriage was an "earthquake issue." Go about half way through. It takes a while for this show to download. When City Pages did an article about Michele Bachmann she denied any connection to Olive Tree Ministries. If you listen to this audio, it's clear she was a regular guest on the show, and knew Jan Markell well.
