With despair rising even among many of John McCain's own advisors, influential Republicans inside and outside his campaign are engaged in an intense round of blame-casting and rear-covering---much of it virtually conceding that an Election Day rout is likely.

A McCain interview published Thursday in the Washington Times sparked the latest and most nasty round of Washington finger-pointing, with senior GOP hands close to President Bush and top congressional aides denouncing the candidate for what they said was an unfocused message and poorly executed campaign.

GOP Made Identical Attacks Against ACORN During 2004 Election

In a replay of a tactic used to help secure President George W. Bush"s second term, Republicans " aided by investigative agencies of the federal government " are making a campaign issue out of voter-registration forms with fake names like "Mickey Mouse."

Trying to salvage his campaign, John McCain has jumped into the ACORN case, too, citing it at the third presidential debate. He declared ACORN "is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy."

However, the investigations launched against ACORN " now including the reported involvement of the FBI " have raised other concerns, especially that Republicans are flogging this issue in an effort to stir up anger, to revive McCain"s campaign, and to intimidate new voters.

Yeah. It's always somebody else's fault with them. Aside from the occasional Powell there is no capacity for introspection within their ranks.

The blame for the anticipated defeat of McCain are the reasons he listed in his Washington Times interview: Irag, 10 trillion debt, large government, huge job losses $500 billion owed to China etc. If he had run a campaign that honest from the beginning and acknowledged Bush's failures, he would have truly been a maverick and man of integrity and been given serious consideration by independents, moderate Repubs, and even conservatives who believed in limited government and fiscal discipline.

The GOP leaders are plutocrats who have convinced their working class voters that tax cuts for plutocrats will be good for "Joe the Plumber". They've got poor people afraid to have wealth spread around. Amazing.

Just like the Clinton machine, the GOP machine is baffled, and confused as to how they're getting their ass kicked by Obama despite their best, battle tested, dirty politics. They haven't realized that a significant number of Americans are tired of "politics as blood sport"--especially since he seems so ineffective in dealing with our problems. Obama is truly tired of it, and obviously he's not alone. If our democracy and policial process can't address, and solve our society's problems, what good is it? It's time to find out.

Wrong time, wrong man, wrong woman, wrong message.

I hope they run Palin in 2012 just in case the Repug's don't get the message that the independents and centrists don't want want a theocratic party. Let the religious loonies form their own party and see just how popular they really are.

Let's see if the GOP can go back to it's fiscally conservative roots and stay out of people's personal lives.

If they do, they might have a chance of rising from the ashes. Otherwise, they'll stay mired with the assess.

Please take it from a Red Sox fan- this is not over! Do not rest until every vote is counted! Then and only then will we know that Senator Obama is safe and sound and president. The rebubs have stolen elections before and they could try to do it again!

I look forward to all the SNL skits based on McCain absolutely loosing his s#%t, invariably beating the living hell out of either a Rick Davis, Karl Rove, George Bush and or Sarah Palin character.

"Whether they know it or not, Republicans have a huge stake in Palin. If, after the election, they let her slip into political obscurity, they"ll be making a huge mistake."

If this is the direction that the GOP wants to continue in then one of two things will happen if the People support them in this endeavor. One, they will become a fringe party, without relevence to anyone but a small, radically religious extremist group supported by the KKK, Survivialists, and right-wing religious groups like Pat Robertson and Wildmon Dobbs. Or Two, they will lead this country into becoming a Facisist State like Italy of the 1930's. Palin deserves to sink into political obscurity. Future history books should only make reference to her name as having been an unsucessful candidate as VP and the scandal tainted Governor from a State with more than its share of corrupt politicians. If she is the future of the GOP, then there better be a god because they will need all the help they can get!
