In response to an earlier post on Marc Ambinder's Atlantic blog, Randy Scheunemann, McCain's chief foreign policy adviser (pictured at left), had some harsh, on the record words for Ambinder. The email was a response to this post, which discusses a falling out in the McCain campaign regarding Palin, whose "pallin' around with terrorists" line was allegedly not cleared by campaign HQ.

Scheunemann became understandably upset with the post:

Just read your post. This is on the record. This is cleared by HQ. It is a fact that Barack Obama was palling around with terrorists. It was a fact before Governor Palin said it in a fully vetted speech and it is fact today. It is bullshit to claim or write anything else.

What is bullshit is McCain and his crowd using Obama's acquaintance with Ayers to say that he palled around with terrorists. Forget the false pluralizing of "terrorist." When Obama met him, Ayers was not a "terrorist." As everyone knows by now, he had moved on to become a respected academic in the field of early childhood education. He was even designated Citizen of the Year in 1997 by the city of Chicago for the work he did at the non-profit where he and Obama sat on the board. Terrifying!

The Republican Party has become so corrupted by its addiction to Atwater-Rove fear and smear campaigning that they have lost all intellectual integrity and go for the big lie every time. Shameless. Help send them to oblivion on November 4 (or sooner if you have early voting).

It is astounding that they still aren't getting it. The polls are reflecting that with all this smoke and dust the McCain camp is throwing up, the whole Ayer/Wright/Acorn/Joe the Plumber bullshit, people just don't care about it.

I didn't think it was possible to run an more amateurish campaign than Kerry did, but even by republican standards this is the sleaziest, most idiotic crew i've ever seen. McCain made the mistake of hiring all the Bushies and a bunch of lobbyists, and missed the boat on what people truly care about--the war, the economy, the environment, and how morally corrupt our government has become. McCain is shouting "Joe the Plumber" and makes up lies about Obama's tax plan while the economy crashes. It reminds me a bit of the Dole campaign--he was simply too old and out of touch with what Americans really wanted.

The GOP wants to win. Who cares about this country? Not the GOP, they seem to care about something else...power? money? Control?

This, coming from the man who worked so hard after 9/11 to create a cause for America to invade Iraq, through his directorship of both PNAC and the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq. Who since then has been a lobbyist for Romania, Latvia and Georgia, all 3 of which have issues with Russia, and could conceivably be looking to America to solve their problems with military might.

We all know how it turned out with Georgia, because Bush for once saw the sense of what Robert Gates and Condi Rice (probably) were telling him. What assurance does anyone have that if McCain should win, he will not be listening to this war-monger?
