The McCain campaign has authorized another vicious robocall that claims Barack Obama and Democrats would cut off funds for the military, have accused American troops of "war crimes," and pose a threat to national security.

Two readers from Wisconsin reported receiving the call, narrated by Orson Swindle, a fellow POW and McCain friend, mid-afternoon Friday.

"Democrats attempt to cut off crucial troop funding," goes the script. "They accuse our troops of war crimes. And Senator Biden predicts Senator Obama will be tested. A weak president will indeed be tested. Obama and Democrat's politics endanger American lives. They are not qualified to lead our military and our country. When you vote, vote for the team that puts leadership, character and country first. John McCain."

A recording was posted on the website StopPoliticalCalls.org.

The text of the robocall includes some positive words about McCain himself, including note that the Senator was endorsed by over 300 military generals and officers. But it is hard to argue that this message -- that Obama and the Democratic Congress would be a danger to the country -- is not the most incendiary yet to come from the Republican ticket.

As always, if you have any insight or information (or, preferable, recordings) let us know.

As if these robocalls weren't bad enough, today I got two flyers in the mail. One from the RNC and one from the Colorado Republican Committee. One talks about Ayers and his quote about not regretting the bombs -- and saying that he is a friend of Obama's. The other claims that, while Wall Street is in crisis, Obama is partying in Hollywood with celebrities. I have just had it with this hate-filled garbage and the people who are intruding into my home with it.

While Wall Street is in crisis, all McCain and his operatives have to do is think up vicious, nasty innuendo?

The politics of hate is destructive. Let's just hope it destroys those who are perpetrating it.

I'm donating to the Obama campaign every time I get one of those nasty robocalls. It's something positive to do in response to all the ugliness.

Some do commit war crimes. Bush did. And just because some soldiers have (US) uniforms on does not mean that they do not commit war crimes.

I'm still trying to figure out what McCain meant when he said he'd already been tested and Obama hadn't.

As a fighter pilot, he was ordered to get on deck and get ready to go. That's his idea of being tested as a Commander-in-Chief. No seriously, he said this.

When this election is over, I really hope McCain likes his new home. He needs to check into a "mental" house, maybe he has one but just doesn't know it !!!

orson swindle, who voiced the call for the McCain, is a very sad case, like McCain himself.

he thinks the military runs this country.

he is used to lying and warping a lot.

he has no shame.

he is a d b a g and a s b a g.

I know this sounds awful, but thinking back to the Vietnam era I can't help but remember having to listen to some of those scripted, recorded propaganda messages that some POWs were tortured into making. The tone of that call is every bit as convincing as some of those old tapes.

Totally. Without. Honor.

"If McCain loses, or even if he wins, his campaign will be remembered as a tragedy in the Aristotelian sense, in which a hero is ruined through some terrible choice of his own. One can only hope that the tragedy will be his alone, and not the nation’s. "

-- Hendrick Hertzberg, The New Yorker

I wasn't going to make the Sunday shift at the volunteer center to make calls, but now I will find a way.

The republicans really have no shame. Lie, cheat and steal. We need to get some new representatives.

They also seem to have no ideas. For me, it is tragic, repugnant and in a way all too telling that Sen. McCain has taken this route to seemingly imploding his campaign. For a person who claims to be a 'maverick,' for whom personal identity and unchallenged image are what it is all about, that all he can think of doing is name-calling speaks volumes to the depth of his political and economic thinking. Obama, the person of integrity, is a huge factor, obviously but so are his policies. Being who he seems to be, Sen. McCain seems to miss both marks by a mile.

GOP Made Identical Attacks Against ACORN During 2004 Election

In a replay of a tactic used to help secure President George W. Bush’s second term, Republicans – aided by investigative agencies of the federal government – are making a campaign issue out of voter-registration forms with fake names like “Mickey Mouse.”

Trying to salvage his campaign, John McCain has jumped into the ACORN case, too, citing it at the third presidential debate. He declared ACORN “is now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy."

However, the investigations launched against ACORN – now including the reported involvement of the FBI – have raised other concerns, especially that Republicans are flogging this issue in an effort to stir up anger, to revive McCain’s campaign, and to intimidate new voters.
