ST. LOUIS — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin testified for two hours Friday in an abuse-of-power investigation that has been a distraction to her Republican vice presidential campaign. Palin's leadership was questioned this month in a stinging but largely toothless legislative report that found she violated state ethics laws by letting a family dispute influence her decision-making.

Palin is hoping the Alaska Personnel Board, which is running a parallel investigation, will clear her of wrongdoing. It's unclear, however, whether any conclusion will be reached before Election Day.

"I am so pleased to finally have gotten the chance to tell what really happened and get the truth out," Palin said in a statement released by her attorney. "It was the right thing to do to bring this before the Personnel Board and have a true arms length unbiased and apolitical investigator look into this."

The board is investigating the firing of her public safety commissioner, Walter Monegan. Monegan claims he was dismissed because he refused to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper involved in a messy divorce from Palin's sister. The controversy, known as "Troopergate," took on national significance after John McCain selected Palin as his running mate.

The legislative inquiry found that Monegan's firing was proper but the pressure to fire the trooper, Mike Wooten, was not. Griffin says Palin stands by her decision to fire Monegan and her concerns about Wooten.

Palin and her husband, Todd, say Wooten was unstable and had made threats against their family. Wooten had also used an electric stun gun on his stepson.

"I make no apologies for wanting to protect my family and wanting to publicize the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge," Todd Palin said in an affidavit submitted to legislative investigators.

Sarah Palin was not subpoenaed in that investigation. Friday's testimony before independent investigator Timothy Petumenos was the first time she spoke at length or under oath about the controversy. Palin began testifying around 4 p.m., McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said. Palin's husband, Todd, was scheduled to testify before she did.

Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, characterized Palin's testimony as "thorough, candid and detailed." Van Flein said Petumenos assured him he was working quickly but made no promise the case would be closed before Election Day.

"I just hope the truth comes out," Van Flein said. "If it's after the election, it's after the election."

Although the legislative report issued a stinging rebuke of Palin's conduct, it carried no penalty. It's up to the personnel board to decide whether Palin violated the law. She filed a complaint against herself to launch the investigation after accusing the legislative inquiry of becoming partisan. Unlike the Legislature, the personnel board is run by officials that Palin can fire but only for cause.

"She felt this was an opportunity to get an unbiased, independent review of the facts," McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said.

Whether Palin's testimony becomes public remains uncertain. Personnel investigations are normally secret and, though Palin has waived her privacy rights, others in her administration have not and Petumenos has sought to keep the matter from playing out in the media.

Van Flein said Palin would like to release a transcript of her deposition. But producing one typically takes days and it's unknown whether Petumenos will allow it.

Why aren't women senators, representatives, and the like who are so outraged about Palin and her obvious intentions of running for President in 2012 getting on the bandwagon and crying out against her? She is determined to make a go of it, and will do her cut-throat mavericky thing for the next 4 years, building her case for why she will be that next Republican president.

Ladies who have a loud voice. Get out there - rally against Sarah. She is Definitely NOT what this country needs - not now, not 2012, not ever.

Figure out away to have her investigated - there's lots that she is hiding under those permanent, but melting icecaps way up there in the heartland of Alaska. Investigate, impeach, run her out of office - whatever it takes to make certain that she is not in a legal position to run for office.

Two scariest words in my universe....

PRESIDENT PALIN

let that soak in... you ever think about the fact that if Obama doesn't win by a landslide they could still steal this and McCain could suffer an untimely demise and instead of Obama or McCain being tested, we might have "Sarah the President" being tested? Oh yeah, you betcha, it can happen don'tcha know.

Makes me wish I could pop valium like candy corn.

Happy Halloween.

Oh, Sarah! I'm afraid Blinky hasn't bothered to read the ethics laws of Alaska, just like she hasn't bothered to read the Constitution. It is time we stopped considering people for high office who have mediocre intelligence and a feeble education. Election to the presidency should not be a beauty pageant.

Palin is a time bomb waiting to go off, (and it seems that she HAS) due to McCain's apparent rebellion against being first forced to abandoned Joe Lieberman and then being told to pick from a personally unpalatable list of fully vetted candidates.

It doesn't look as if she was on that list until the last moment, if at all. So she may have received only the skimpiest of vetting, if any.

The McCain campaign is now dealing with several issues: concerning Sarah Palin:

1) her own trooper gate scandal that involves her husband and a state legislative investigation.

2) her decision to fight Endangered Species protection for arctic polar bears. A decision that points to her close ties to the Alaska energy lobby, which is a font of corruptions in that state.

3) The relatively crushing debt she left behind as mayor of Wasilla. About two years ago, while serving as mayor, her office seriously mishandled the purchase of land for s sports arena complex, costing the city over ten times what it should have paid for the property upon which the complex is going to sit.

Imagine what she would have done to the lower 48.

4) Oh but WAIT: she has already done damage, (here) by race baiting.

Don't overlook this one:

It is very likely that her house on the lake was built by the same contractor building the sports complex, as payback for that contract. Free house! Yay!

Are we all aware that Sarah P originally wrote a glowing letter of recommendation for her then brother in law, Mike Wooten on Wasilla Mayoral letterhead to the State Troopers for a job.

On January 1, 2000

Sarah Palin wrote a letter of recommendation on behalf on her then brother in law, Mike Wooten to the State Troopers. Here are a few excerpts. This is verbatim, grammar, misspellings, etc are the author's .
"It is my pleasure to provide character reference examples for Mr. Mike Wooten. Since I have become aquainted with Mike I continue to beimpressed with his integrity, worthwhile community spirit and trustworthiness."

"On a personal note, I have witnessed Mike's gift of calm and kindness towards many young kids here n Wasilla. I have never seen him raise his voice, nor lose patience, nor become aggitated, in the presence of any child. Instead, Mike consistently remains a fine role model for my own children and other young people in Wasilla. "

I wish America had more people with the grace and sincerity that mirrors the character of Mike Wooten. We would have a; much kinder calmer trustyworthy nation as a result."

I found the link to the letter on the Anchorage Daily News www.adn.comdn.com) and the poster said he had gotten it from a buddy on the state troopres because they wanted people to know that Sarah Palin was lying about Mike Wooten and firing Moneghan.

I saw this weeks ago and posted it. Thanks for posting it again.

I can't understand why it's not mentioned as a part of the investigation.

Ihopethese investigators ask her the motive for trying to destroy Officer Wooten's financial life. She not only tried to lose him his law enforcement career according to the evidence but Alaskans report that she also tried to cut off his workmens comp. He had a back injury when he pulled dead body out of a car and slipped on the ice. Alaska? Ice? Get it?

My prediction: She was trying to make him ineligible for child custody.
According to Alaska based reports and documents Todd followed Office Wooten around with a camera every where to hope to catch the man liftingsomething.
What a pair.
Straight form Alaska: They know all and tell all.

Whatever Sarah Palin has, it's catching. In regards to her testimony at troopergate, her lawyer says she is happy to get the chance to get the opportunity to to get to the truth. I'll tell you, one thing that's taking a real beating in this campaign is the English language. When you don't know what the hell you're talking about or trying to disguise it, just keep talking.

sarah is a narcisitic bubblehead. I honestly can not believe this country found someone empty-headed to run for a national office. This lady is nothing of substance and is 100% form. This is alarming. I know people have made fun of politicians forever and referred to them as stupid, etc. but this lady is even worse than bush. She actually believes she is the best qualified person for America. She is either certifiably nuts or dumber than a fence post (albeit a pretty fence post with lots of lipstick) if you ask me.

Is she testifying under oath? Not that it really matters anyway in Palin's world.

People....does no one realize that Sarah Palin appointed the board of Personnel and can fire all of them at will? (this whole problem is about how she fired her appointed head of the state troopers for not firing her ex brother in law) ...she appointed the state's Attorney General, an old school buddy. This investigation is a joke and was pulled together at the advice of the McCain camp to offset the investigation being done by a bipartisan group in the state legislature. How are her appointees going to find their boss quilty...give me a break!

So far the AK justice system, from the Legislative council to the Supreme Court have all seen fit to keep this issue alive. The Personnel Board's investigator is a Dem and that wasnt in the McPalins original plan when she "cited" herself.

"The Personnel Board's three members were first appointed by Gov. Frank Murkowski, whom Palin unseated in a Republican primary in 2006. Palin reappointed one member, Debra English, in 2008. '

The caveat is that she asked to be investigated and she can terminate it at will. odd law in AK!

"Today, the Anchorage Daily News reports that Palin could end the Personnel Board hearing “simply by refusing to cooperate.” State law allows the person who filed the complaint — in this case, Palin herself — to end the investigation by refusing to participate:

Alaska Statute 39.52.310: (i) The unwillingness of a complainant to assist in an investigation, the withdrawal of a complaint, or restitution by the subject of the complaint may, but need not in and of itself, justify termination of an investigation or proceeding."

The full legislature can investigate in Jan if this fails..She cant stop that.

Stay tuned and have faith in the process. SP is not what she was a few months ago, and I feel that she has embarassed AK enough to get whats coming to her.

Petumenos is a Democrat and scares the crap out of the Mccain operatives.

"the board ended up hiring an aggressive Anchorage trial lawyer, Timothy Petumenos, as an independent counsel. McCain aides were chagrined to discover that Petumenos was a Democrat who had contributed to Palin's 2006 opponent for governor, Tony Knowles. Palin is now scheduled to be questioned next week, and the counsel's report could be released soon after. "We took a gamble when we went to the personnel board," said a McCain aide who asked not to be identified discussing strategy. "

This deposition of SP smells. How is it possible to get any solid information from her in a two hour deposition?

2 hours of SP/TP running their mouth's could be just long enough to perjure themselves. This was under oath, and the investigator has ALL of the Branchflower findings that we DONT know about.
