Ridge: Race Would Be Different If I Was VP Pick

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge said today that John McCain can't become president without carrying Pennsylvania and that the race would be different if McCain had chosen him as his running mate.

"I think the dynamics would be different in Pennsylvania," Ridge said when asked if he should have been chosen to run as vice president over Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. "I think we'd be foolish not to admit it publicly."

I think he is right. Would have been a stronger ticket with him on it. They would still probably lose the election though.

Since Ridge is partipating in the heinous robocalls, I likewise find no truth in his assertion.

As a lifelong Pennsylvanian, let me remind you that we just ditched Rick Santorum in the last election and resoundingly so. I'd like to say, too, that if I were an apple, I'd be in a tree.

I was a bit nervous before McCain picked his VP running mate. I hoped that he wouldn't pick Hutchison, or any other number of qualified women. when I heard Palin, I relaxed, at first, happy he hadn't picked someone that would even the playing field. But as I got to see Palin and her problems, I realized that she was a dangerous pick, for a 72 year old cancer survivor. then I got angry. McCain trifled with our safety and our country. His judgment was what made me so angry, not Palin anymore.

It would have been a different race. Not a winning one, but a different one. The base likes Palin, they don't like Ridge. The middle of the roaders like Ridge, don't like Palin.

I'm from Pennsylvania, Tom, and no...the race wouldn't have been any different in my eyes. You weren't that great as a Governor to have made me change my mind.

He's got a point. I believe the Palin pick was idiotic, too. The base would have come out in the end anyway. He needed to get those undecideds-the quasi-libertarians, the independants, etc. Anyone with political savvy saw the Palin pick as a big huge Hail Mary pass with less than 50-50 chance of succeeding. The bottom line?

Anyone can see that the Palin pick in a time of 2 wars and economic downturn is just STUPID. So who wants to vote for a guy with that kind of judgement? If McCain would run the country like he's run his campaign.....wow. I think that's what most rep are thinking when they bail out on him.

I think Tom Ridge is actually right. To quote Ms. Palin when asked about whether or not Barrack should have picked Hilary as his running mate, I betcha he wish he had chosen Tom Ridge now!

I disagree - remember the GOP platform he'd be signing onto - doesn't set well with a majority of Pennsylvanians. Plus, duct tape Tom was just as much laughingstock here in PA.
