Tom Cruise skewered his Today show adversary Matt Lauer with one-liners in a surprise appearance Friday at a Friar's Club roast.
"Lose my number, you glib putz," Cruise told Lauer at the New York event, ribbing the morning show host for calling the actor "glib" during the now-infamous 2005 interview.
Lauer then embraced Cruise, but managed to get a word in edgewise.
"Hey can you stay?" he asked Cruise, teasing, "We could get a booster seat."
But for the most part it was Lauer in the hot seat during his star-studded roast - and Cruise wasted no time going for the (comedic) jugular.
"Matt and I are best friends; we do everything together," Cruise told the crowd as he flipped through doctored photos of the two swimming and barbequing together. "My life is made up of jumping from international film set to fancy party, from fancy party to international film set, while you have been content to do the same thing everyday: Sit on the couch until Father Time and GE think you are too old and too boring."
