Waaaasup! The Pro-Obama Version

Classic television ads are few and far between. And only occasionally do they blend into the politic dialect (see: "Where's the beef?" Mondale v. Hart, 1984).

The "Wasssssup" Budweiser spots were -- for avid television watchers -- one of those memorable ad moments that had pop culture significance. Now, the very same characters are reprising almost identical roles in a short clip on behalf of the Obama campaign.

And... it actually works.

Here is the original, for those interested in making a trip down memory lane to the days when things were simpler and the beer a bit smoother.

The group to credit for the new spot is Chopshop @ Believe Media a filmmakers boutique that puts out "original short film programming."

That is by far the funniest thing I have seen in a campaign that has had many funny moments. I don't know who directed these spots but I wish he or she would make a movie. Brilliantly hilarious. Thank you so much.

This was directed by Charles Stone, the guy on the couch at the beginning. He made the original short film "True" that the Bud spots were based on (he also directed the ads).
His films include "Paid in Full", "Drumline" and "Mr. 3000".

I mean seriously, who else has the nerve to say, "Forget that I have no new policies. Forget that I plan to continue ALL the failed policies of the past 8 years and even double down on some. Wow! So great and so relevent! That should be on all the MSN. If most Americans could see that and be able to laugh and at the same time feel the pain that each character represents and then be uplifted at the end to know that change is coming and we will ALL benefit...great job!!

Wow, that was brilliant. I've never seen the original Bud ad; but then I haven't been watching football on tv since the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Oilers, St. Louis Cardinals, and the LA Rams. But, I do recognize good comedy when I see it. Great job!

The original ad came out at the end of 1999, but really became a phenomenon in 2000. I remember because I was a high school freshman in 2000 and all the older guys in my school would parody the commercial non-stop. Fun times...lol
