WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Lieberman on Friday skirted a question on whether vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is ready from day one to be president, saying "thank God" she won't have to be.

Lieberman, I-Conn., who has helped prep the Alaska governor on foreign policy issues, said his pal and GOP presidential nominee, John McCain, is in good health.

"Thank God, she's not gonna have to be president from day one, because McCain's going to be alive and well," Lieberman said in a conference call with reporters.

Lieberman said he was confident that Palin, whose foreign policy background has been questioned by Democrats, could step in and handle the chief executive's job.

"If, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind, she'll be ready," Lieberman said. "She's had executive experience. She's smart and she will have had on-the-job training."

Lieberman added that if Democrat Barack Obama wins the White House, he would support his presidency.

"I hope and pray, and I am working my heart out for McCain to be elected our next president, but if for whatever the reason he is not, I am going to do everything I can to be part of bringing people together across party lines to support the new president so he can succeed," Lieberman said. "What's at stake for our country is just too serious."

Lieberman was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000 and was re-elected to the Senate in 2006 as an independent.

Thanks to the Divinity as well for the fact that she's not going to be VP in 2009.

Hey little joey, if we win 60 seats in the Senate, you will be stripped of all of your seniority.

And then you will be tarred and feathered.

Nice to see you suffering like a loser. BTW that fork in mcCain's behind is coming for you too.

But if they need him to *get to* 60, then he'll keep his seniority.

I hope he loses his bid for reelection as a Senator also. He disgraces that post and the people.

His removal is one of my future goals. Almost don't care who runs against him, that person will have my full support. Until then, I hope that dems follow through on their initial reaction when LIEb came out at the RNC and make sure he sits alone at a lunch table for the rest of his tenure.
If Chambliss in GA doesn't go down this time, he's on my list, too.

I noticed...that old iguana (sorry iguanas worldwide) is trying to tip-toe backwards now. How convenient! Iit must be because he figures he'll be the odd old man out in the senate come January 20th....he must have pulled out his copy of Carnegie's book "How to win friends and influence people"

TOO LATE droopy

"...on-the-job training." Before Palin came along, that was McCain's line about Obama.

Isn't it something that they can say that about Obama but cannot say the same thing about their own. These people are truly idiots.

Who was it that said this was no place for on the job training?

What is Executive Experience?
Is it making tough top level decisions for the future of your company? Isnt that what Senators and Representatives have to do in congress everyday voting on and speaking about dozens of bills per day that affect parts or all of our country and deal with Trillions in spending and debts, operations, domestic policy, foreign affairs, military projects, spending, cuts, etc?

Is Executive Experience, bossing people around and wearing expensive suits, and acting like a dictator? isnt that what most congresspeople do all day?

To the McCain Campaign and Leiberschmuck , "Executive Experience" means A Long Detailed History of making horrible failed decisions that have harmed americans economically, traumatized, social dysfunction, practicing racism, bigotry, sexism, Fraud, Lies, and spending big bucks to make bigger bucks for themselves by cheating and frauding the public in every possible way.
Yes - per that definition, McCain Palin have way more experience than Obama Biden.

Experience making mistakes for the people while always coming out with a big profit, thats McCain Palin

The best example of executive experience is the Obama campaign. It speaks for itself.

However, if Obama is elected, we would have inexperienced leadership on Day One.

If either one of them is elected, the same would be true. McCain doesn't have any experience as an executive either. But Obama has had plenty just by organizing and overseeing the best darm campaign in history. Who can tout that experience?

Absolutely - this campaign has shown the stark contrast in leadership styles
- one is divisive and one unites
- one has been erratic, jumping from one ineffective tactic to the next while the other has been consistent and strategic
-one has shown nothing but a hot head in a time of crisis while another has shown true calm, thoughtful leadership
- the organization under one is jumping ship and backstabbing while that for the other is strong and united
- one has demonstrated poor judgement in spending while the other has been careful about appearance

There is more but I need to go get coffee now

Obama has as much experience as Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Jimmy Carter or George W. Bush.

The issue with Palin is her stunning ignorance. She couldn't define the Bush Doctrine, tells us she visited troops in Iraq and was never there, was confused by the term "preconditions," boasts that living in Alaska has given her foreign policy experience, and declares that the Vice President is "in charge of the Senate." This woman couldn't pass a test to become a US citizen.
