WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Lieberman on Friday skirted a question on whether vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is ready from day one to be president, saying "thank God" she won't have to be.

Lieberman, I-Conn., who has helped prep the Alaska governor on foreign policy issues, said his pal and GOP presidential nominee, John McCain, is in good health.

"Thank God, she's not gonna have to be president from day one, because McCain's going to be alive and well," Lieberman said in a conference call with reporters.

Lieberman said he was confident that Palin, whose foreign policy background has been questioned by Democrats, could step in and handle the chief executive's job.

"If, God forbid, an accident occurs or something of that kind, she'll be ready," Lieberman said. "She's had executive experience. She's smart and she will have had on-the-job training."

Lieberman added that if Democrat Barack Obama wins the White House, he would support his presidency.

"I hope and pray, and I am working my heart out for McCain to be elected our next president, but if for whatever the reason he is not, I am going to do everything I can to be part of bringing people together across party lines to support the new president so he can succeed," Lieberman said. "What's at stake for our country is just too serious."

Lieberman was the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000 and was re-elected to the Senate in 2006 as an independent.

RE: Palin .... I would love to know what Hillary would say to her shrink about Sarah "Maverick" Palin. What goes through Hillary's mind seeing how the Republicans created this sexy "political viagra" for their old guys and tried to pimp her out to disgruntled women voters as well. What will 2012 look like with both women running against Obama? Wow ... it's a cwazy world for sure. Curioser & curioser.

Lieberman ought to be relegated to the back row in the incoming Democratic Senate and Congress. He is a turncoat and deserves no support from the Dems. Get that Mr. Benedict Arnold?

But aren't you just a little excited it played out the way it did? I mean this guy Lieb. thought he'd get over on everyone by going Independent. Then the foo/ supports McCain against Obama. Now look at him. He's mistake was he thought he was smarter than everyone else. He's exactly where he deserves to be. This is going to be fun to watch!

Lieberman...Gag, puke! He's definitely a Judas. Can't believe he thinks all will be well in the Senate come January. He should feel like a fool!

No one can predict the future. The best way to be sure that Sarah Palin WON'T be President from day one is to make sure that Barack Obama is our next POTUS!

Obama is a man of character who will preserve our Constitution and be a great leader.

The sad thing is that Joe Liebermann doesn't even realize how beside the point he is... He is an opportunist who has switched parties depending on how the wind was blowing. Unfortunately for Joe, opportunity is no longer knocking.

and yet in an article, posted on HuffPost from the Daily Telegraph, He told The Sunday Telegraph: "There's going to be a bloodbath. A lot of people are going to be excommunicated. David Brooks and David Frum and Peggy Noonan are dead people in the Republican Party. The litmus test will be: where did you stand on Palin?"...He said: "She emerges from this election as the probable frontrunner for the 2012 nomination. Her supporters vastly outnumber her critics. But it will be extremely difficult for her to win the presidency....He (Nuzzo) said: "Win or lose, there is a ready made conservative candidate waiting in the wings. Sarah Palin is not the new Iain Duncan Smith, she is the new Ronald Reagan." On the accuracy of that judgment, perhaps, rests the future of the Republican Party." I stand here making a prediction that Sarah Palin WILL NEVER be the FUTURE of the Republican Party nor will she ever be the NEW RONALD REAGAN. My prediction is that her and the FIRST DUDE return to the frozen wasteland from where they came to face the music of her constituancy. Not the Golden Girl of the Republican Convention, Palin will meet with disapproval from those who voted her the most popular governor EVER. Knowing and now admitting what a DRAIN she was on the ticket, hard core and established Republicans will wash their hands of her.

Sarah Palin as the Republican nominee in '12?

She'll get Mondale's name out of the record books - if McCain doesn't do it Nov. 4.

What Mr. Lieberman should have said was "Thank God she's not going to have to be VICE President from Day One."

And I'm beginning to think that Mr. McCain echoes that sentiment, although secretly.

Keep working for Obama! We cannot afford to let up now.

Joe Lieberman should be ashamed of himself for supporting McCain's disgusting campaign.... I use to like this man and always thought him a moderate...... now I will watch him fade into the background and hope to never hear from him again...... I think that he lost the remainder of the Democrats in Conn.

Biden on Obama "the office of the Presidency does not lend itself to on the job training".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:17 PM on 10/25/2008

I am so sick and tired of hearing these same tag lines bantered about as if it really means something.

There is no such thing as having "enough Experience to POTUS". It is the hardest job on the planet. Every past POTUS had "on The Job Training".

ONe may say, and in some respects I acknowledge some truth, is that being a Gov, for an extended period of time at least gives a candidate "executive" experience.

Simply being in the Military, does not automatically mean one can be Commander in Chief, unless of course that experience was at a very high level. Most thathave served in the Military simply FOLLOW orders.

So in short Steeler5, I resent the comment!
Have a nice day.

I'm thinking Palin will literally throw Droopy under the StraightTalk Express. Unfortunately, it's been up on blocks since she got on board.
Please, can the Dems get to 60 in the Senate without this snake? There is nothing I'd like to see more than Lieberman being marginalized to the point he resigns. Or the good People of Connecticut could recall him.
