I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Sarah Palin had a few memorable moments during her campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday. But the most eye-opening of them all came, it would appear, when the Alaska Governor somehow drew a connection between Barack Obama's tax policy and an encroaching, nightmarish, communist government. The Illinois Democrat, she hysterically suggested, would, through his proposals, create a country "where the people are not free."

"See, under a big government, more tax agenda, what you thought was yours would really start belonging to somebody else, to everybody else. If you thought your income, your property, your inventory, your investments were, were yours, they would really collectively belong to everybody. Obama, Barack Obama has an ideological commitment to higher taxes, and I say this based on his record... Higher taxes, more government, misusing the power to tax leads to government moving into the role of some believing that government then has to take care of us. And government kind of moving into the role as the other half of our family, making decisions for us. Now, they do this in other countries where the people are not free. Let us fight for what is right. John McCain and I, we will put our trust in you."

That yarn goes well beyond what Palin and McCain have, to this point, been comfortable asserting: mainly that Obama is proposing economic socialism. But there are a few things to keep in mind here: the McCain-Palin ticket does not oppose a progressive tax system. In fact, back in 2000, the Arizona Republican said rich people paid more in taxes because they could afford to do so.

"I think the first people who deserve a tax cut are working Americans with children that need to educate their children," he said, "and they're the ones that I would support tax cuts for first."

More importantly, Obama's tax plans are less progressive than those in place during the Clinton years. In fact, the rates that people making over $250,000 would have to pay would be the same as during the 1990s -- a time definitely not marked by the absence of freedoms.

First she showed us that she hasn't read the Constitution (or at least the part about what a vice president does). Now she's telling us that she doesn't know history (maybe she thinks Alaska escaped communism in the 1990s). What else doesn't she know?

I'm not sure what's more scary; that such an ignoramus might become vice president, or the fact that her audiences are taking her so serious.

Palin has never read the Constitution; even if she ever does , someone, such as Obama, would have to explain it to her

Sarah Palin, Husband, and Family.

She's not well educated, (bottom of her class)
Her husband is a high school dropout.
He pregnant teenage daughter is a high school dropout.
The baby daddy is a high school dropout.
The two younger school age daughters are with her on the campaign trail instead of school.

What more is there to say

"Government take care of you.." Oh you mean like paying for your children to attend affairs they weren't invited to? Or paying for you to go from the kitchen to the bathroom by claiming it as a travel expense? Maybe you mean going around in expensive clothes you didn't pay for, huh. It's almost as if you learned how to "work the system."
I wonder who paid the tuition for you to go to six colleges, Sarah Failin. Seems like a waste of taxpayer money for an idiot who doesn't read or know Afghanistan isn't our neighbor and New Hampshire isn't in the northwest. You do seem well versed in code language, though, you racist fraud.

THere is no way a professional wrote her comments, at least not a serious professional. She really must be going "rougue." I'd bet 20 dollars her soon to be son in law Levi the dropout sperm donor wrote it. Those thoughts and words cant rise past a 10th grade level. Unless of course the brain trust of the Mcain/Palin campaign are now writing speeches for the tip top intellectual level of thier Rally audience. Either scenerio is plausible and actually sadly closer to the truth than we'll ever know.

dropout sperm donor??? classy! Such a high level of intellectual political discourse.

Anybody notice the IQ test ad toward the top of the page. Biden 146? Obama and I are all about a 3 letter word "JOBS"? Asking a man in a wheelchair to stand up and be recognized at a rally? I guess if Biden passes as some sort of intellectual then so should characterizing a boy as a dropout sperm donor.

"I guess if Biden passes as some sort of intellectual then so should characterizing a boy as a dropout sperm donor."

Eh?

...then so should characterizing a boy as a dropout sperm donor [pass off as some sort of intellectual]

Eh???

I guess you have never "forgot yourself" in public... good for you...i know I have and everyone I know has mis-spoke . I once handed a letter to a visually impaired witness to read to the court; it slipped my mind he was blind...I was following my rote for introducing evidence as Biden was following the rote for introductions and regognition...get a life and find some real issues.

Her "rogueness" could not happen to a more deserving person than John McCain. His cavalier review of her record, of her underhanded method of leadership in Alaska, her use of the State Government to settle silly family disputes, her sense of entitlement when it comes to firing a great civil servant, her dull witedness, all were missed by the non-evaluation by the McCain bunch. The no-vetter you know, who now thinks he has a right to whine. In the end, McCain's choice that he WAS so proud of is blowing up before his eyes and the dullard is blaming her. After all, HE is the one who chose her without due diligence in the vetting process. I get nauseous when I think of this guy having any ability to choose his cabinet. His judgment has been so demonstrably poor on his VP selection that who knows who he would chose for such sensitive jobs as Defense Secretary or Sec. of Treasury. It is Obama by a huge margin in the hundreds of miles in fact. Just look at the differences in their campaign organization and you get a clue of how haphazard McCain would be but how wonderfully organized and fair that Obama would be. Sad to say, I wrote in McCain's name the last two elections but I see now so clearly ti will take a strong Democrat to get our country back in shape. And Obama is that strong Democrat we need!!!!!

Oh noes!!11! A nightmare Communist state where health care is affordable, the national debt is reduced, and -GASP- we're not reliant on ANY oil -foreign OR domestic- for our transportation needs! The horror!

Someone get the hook. I'm tired of this broad. Maybe that sounds a little sexist, calling her that, but as she has done nothing to earn any respect from me, that's what she gets. Trust me, much less charitable words have entered my head upon hearing that irritating accent.

Socialism isn't a repub or dem issue...they both seem to be headed that way, one just faster and more blatantly than the other. Since when did so many people get the idea that the federal government is the solution to anything? I submit the last 80 years or so as evidence that the government is NOT the solution to anything. When did so many people decide to give up on solving personal problems and issues themselves? Why are so many willing to surrender sovereignty over their own lives and just lie back and let the government expand its power so far beyond the 18 specific powers granted it by the Constitution?

The cons just led the charge to nationalize (read socialize) the financial industry 16 years or so after the libs decided that credit ratings are racist and stacked against those in the lower income bracket (read socialized lending policy).

This country was born out of a revolution against a government that did not represent the wishes of the people. It would appear that social engineering is the flavor of the day from both sides. Lord help us so many have given up some much liberty to those who think "they" can decide best.

I guess if you have no truth to tell, you hid it by lying! The lies are getting very tiresome. How stupid do you thing the American public is?

"You'll never go broke by underestimating the intelligence of the America people" PT Barnum

Dems and Repubs are both neck full of it. However, an Obama/Pelosi/Reed troika (junta?) certainly isn't the answer. They'll just flat out take what you earned and p$%s it away. At least the Repubs will give us a moderately well crafted lie.

"If you thought your income, your property, your inventory, your investments were, were yours, they would really collectively belong to everybody."

I wonder if Simple Sarah knows about the Supreme Court decision that said communities now have the right to take property through eminant domain for no more reason than local governments can profitably sell it to developers.
A town in the North East had claimed riverfront property from a middle class residential neighborhood because the town wanted to develop the property as more expensive waterfront retail and residential properties.
They wanted to take peoples' homes - for profit.
And Bush's Supreme Court let them.

Sarah Palin's double talk, off the wall around the bend and land on some goofy premise chock full of fear is her stock in trade. Oofdah!

The only thing she brought to light that gives pause is that one State--
Alaska--out of 50 gets a tax rebate from the oil companies that the State gives to every single person.
Why is this not a universal policy? If Alaska can do it, the Fed can do it. Its public land, we own it and we pay $ these oil con men to drill it and sell our oil and keep the $$.
If the oil men leave the White House, will the oil industry still run Washington?

Here's my estimation of what's going on in Alaska: The Supreme Court determined "Money is speech" and when that happened the oil companies did an amazing, visionary thing. They said to themselves, "If money is speech, let's go buy us an oil state. Let's buy us a Govenor and all the people so they won't yell as oil drilling destroys the last, best place in the world". - one who saw Alaska twenty years ago and last year.

"saw" Alaska? I live here and have since before you "saw" it, probably from a cruise ship, 20 years ago. On semi-annual fishing trips on the Yukon it isn't unusual to see cow caribou give birth under the pipeline. They like the warmth. Yeah, oil has really destroyed the place.

No other state is not stopped from developing it's natural resources but you in the lower 48 think you have the right to tell us we can't? You've already locked up over 100 million acres as "federal" land that can't be touched, even to build a road, so some tourist can fly by helicopter from their cruise ship and stand someplace no one has stood before....since the last cruise ship passed by.

I thought self determination was a perogative held by all? Okay now, the jokes over. Just bring back the Constitution.

Republicans: Please, will you quit with the socialist BS? It's ridiculous and ignorant. The Obama/Biden economic stimulus plan is nothing at all like the Marxist economic philosophy that the workers, not capitalists, should own the means of production.

If that bogus comparison continues to be treated as legitimate, then it should be acknowledged that it makes at least as much sense to ask how Republicans differ from fascists:

-- Today's far-right Republicans frequently invoke the fascist nationalist rhetoric of God-Country-Family, and place them in opposition to the imaginary heathen/ unAmerican / hordes.

-- Today's far-right Republicans are constantly race-baiting and trying to establish an internal "Other" as enemy and scapegoat (celebrity, terrorist, socialist, communist, unpatriotic, anti-American, etc.).

-- Republicans are militarily hawkish and expansionist--in favor of unilateral military invasions of sovereign countries.

-- Republicans support keeping people in prison (e.g., Guantanamo) indefinitely, without being charged, and without due process.

-- Republicans endorse a very narrow definition of torture that allows for inhumane prisoner treatment that is roundly condemned by the rest of the world.

-- Under Bush's presidency the banks have been nationalized (!)

-- Republicans have supported allowing government no-bid contracts to private corporations (e.g., Halliburton) to entwine "the military-industrial complex."

Great Post! Let's just hope the Hypocrites are reading this! They just can’t see the light! They are truly both unChristian like and unpatriotic, but to hear them tell it, they aren’t. They hide behind the bible while preaching hate and fear. It’s very sad and disturbing! I pray for them and I am sincere when I say that.

They are the real Pharisees!
