Sarah Palin

Washington Post:

While top-of-the-ticket rivals John McCain and Barack Obama both remain broadly popular heading into Election Day, public perceptions of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin have fallen dramatically since she emerged on the national political scene at the GOP convention.

A majority of likely voters in a new Washington Post-ABC News national poll now have unfavorable views of the Alaska governor, most still doubt her presidential qualifications and there is an even split on whether she "gets it," a perception that had been a key component of her initial appeal.

Palin is making GOP enemies right and left. Biting the hand that feeds her (McCain) will not be forgot after this is over. She will have to hustle to find a bigger and tougher "sponor" before McCain and Cindy get their chance to do her in politically.

What goes around does come around in Washington.

This woman was never qualified. The Problem is that WHITE men lower heads control their upper heads.

This pick was based upon looks and WHITE beauty. We voted for a male incompentence President onceand now we want an incompentent female president.

White People can be stupid at times and jeapordize the country and blame it on the blacks and hispanics. But not willing to acknowledge their arrogance of ingnorance...end quote

Palin talks to the people at her rallies as if they are children. When they understand her, they feel smart... that is her secret.

Now, many of us are insulted when we are talked down to, by someone who is clearly uneducated, uninformed and repeats the same debunked lies over and over again.

So .... on election day, it's between these two groups. What is the majority of American like? We know bush won in 2004, so I think, the Palin people are the majority. Sorry.

The Republicans mistake was to name her in time for the RNC. If they would have waited until a last week or so, she would still be on the wave of approval she received from the conservatives.

How could anyone have a negative opinion of a soccer mom who loves Joe 12-pack-N-a-hit. Don't all soccer moms take huge amounts of money to shop at over priced stores with no feeling of a need to have to repay? Isn't this the all American Woman who can't answer questions directly but speaks directly with true Americans? Can't everyone see the load of crap being shoveled by the Repuglicans? Wake up!! And it's all to get the same bunch of folks out to vote that gave us the last 8 years. JHC!!

One of the Americans with negative impressions of her seems to be John McCain himself.

Watch their interview with Brian Williams.

McCain never makes eye contact with her--much less ever look supportive or encouraging. He looks downs, often smirking, when she speaks. You can almost HEAR him thinking, "What a stupid woman."

That interview almost made me feel sorry for Palin. If I didn't think they were two calculating opportunists...sorry, "mavericks"....in a pod, I would feel bad for her. McCain--never comfortable with women--clearly views her with contempt (something she doesn't deserve, imo, under the cirucumstances that she was HIS pick).

They deserve each other.

How could anyone support a pro God candidate that makes a mockery of the 10 Commandments.

Thou Shall not lie about the bridge to nowhere, other dubious accomplishments and Troopergate.
Thou shall not steal from the citizens of Alaska or America.
Thou shall not kill innocent critters from airplanes or people and animals with air and water pollution.
Thou shall not endanger the lives of politicians by stirring up hatred and venom at political rallies.
Thou shall not hire cronies and friends to public jobs and fire those you don't like or disagree with.
Thou shall not make fun of fruit flies or the people who work with them to save lives or improve the health of people.
Thou shall not for an office in which you haven't a clue of the duties related to that office.
Thou shall not make it up as you go which is the same as thou shall not lie.

As I was born and raised in Europe I don't understand how the fundamentals of American elections work. However, as our societies are not that different, I don't get it why it would be attractive to vote an uneducated, stupid person into office. Is it because the voters are even dumber than the candidate ? Why is it "elitist" when a candidate can talk in proper sentences that make sense ? Why should a candidate appear "folksy" ? In his daily job ( if he or she gets elected ) this person has to deal with people on an intellectual level and it doesn't hurt if she or he is smart. Why is knowledge regarded so low in America ? How come you send the first man to the moon, but present a woman whose foreign policy credential is the visibilty of Russia from her porch ?

We thought it was funny when George Bush said: man and fish can co-exist peacefully. But the thought Palin could be elected is not funny, it is actually very scary for us.

We see it in the same way here in the UK. Everybody that I have talked to about this (it is a big topic of conversation here) thinks it is completely ridiculous that many Americans take this women at all seriously.

Thank you, your point is well taken. However, millions and millions of us support Obama because he is a brilliant, eloquent, common sense, candidate. Unfortunately, is only a small segment of the population who likes this woman. The extreme right give all of us a bad name.

I'm from Europe and have been living in the US for almost 30 years. The truth is that a lot of American are fanatically religious and quite ignorant/under-educated which is why an unintellectual candidate like her appeals to them.
