I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Appearing on Meet the Press, NBC's Chuck Todd noted that early voting is "through the roof," and that turnout is threatening John McCain even in states that lean his way, including Georgia and North Carolina. Turnout among African-Americans might be "somewhere between 95 and 100 percent in some of these states," he noted, upturning some red-leaning southern states. According to Todd, GOP strategists are now asking, "Is South Carolina now in single digits? What's going on in Mississippi?"

Todd also said that Obama has built enough strength in other states that he can likely lose Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio and still get to 270 electoral votes.

Funny how they will bring up and focus on the black vote.....the new black vote. ...Yet...they hardly mention the 8 million youth who will be first time voters........most voting for O.
That's a lot of youth heading out to vote.
white...black...orange...yellow.....they're fired up......ready to go

I've noticed that too. Both Pennsylvania and North Carolina has a rather large state-wide system of universities and colleges.

I work at a NC unviversity, the students are active in getting the message about Sen. Obama out, have been working hard to get new voters registered, and have actually taken advantage of NC early voting.

My daughter brought home three students from college this weekend. Two are not registered. I talked to the guy at length, he said it wasn't his fault, the folks who did registrations on campus didn't set up at a time convenient to his class schedule. I got on the net, and in less than thirty seconds printed out an application and a list of addresses to mail it to, and he said "I have one of those forms already!" Sheesh. I know it is Alabama and it probably won't come down to two votes, but I told those kids that if it is that close, I am going to get them good. Putzes. I watched my daughter fill out her absentee ballot, gave her the postage and told her to email me when she mails it in and I'll put money in her bank account, regardless of whom she voted for (I am not worried).

I use to like Chuck Todd until he started becoming an Obama cheerleader just like the rest of the MSNBC group. Dont you think its funny that even Scarborough has become a cheerleader as well? I guess him and Chuck know who sign there checks over there at NBC News. I use to be a Democrat until I saw how biased the media was and how they pushed an unexperienced candidate on me just because he was black. Truth hurts.

I've already sent my absentee ballot in for PA C*E*R*T*I*F*I*E*D !! McCain can hunker down in PA for as long as he wants, but I've already made the conscious decision to take 2-3 hrs off during election day to help out in WV.

I'm in Michigan. What is it with these states that don't offer early voting?

I was born and grew up in Mich. and voted against Reagan's 2nd term less than a month after I turned 18. There was no waiting in line. After that, I moved to TX and lived there for 20 years, I never had to wait to vote. This will be the 2nd Presidential election I've voted in in Michigan and I'm worried about the wait. I don't know what to expect. I guess I better take a chair, a book, and some water and snacks?

McCain's biggest problem is that the Republican party isn't behind him. How did he win the nomination? I don't know if there is anyone who know how John McCain became the Republican nominee.

If we had the answer to the question why the party isn't behind him, we we would know why he is losing and a comeback is not likely.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:02 PM on 10/26/2008

McCain won because in the republican primary it is winner take all. McCain had a lot of close races if it had not been winner take all in the republicans primary Romney would probably have won.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:59 PM on 10/26/2008

This is why democrats don't have winner take all system in the primaries.

GOP knew that they will be massacred in 2008 election. They didn't want to put a good and viable candidate and sacrifice him/her to wolves. So the old man to take the bait. That's the reason why the GOP machinery is not behind McCain. They let him go on his own way before he was even nominated for the presidency. They also didn't want to risk a good candidate for the VP spot. So the dimwit Palin was selected. GOP has nothing to loose if these two tank big time.

This guy is Michael Ramirez. He is the political cartoonist for Investor Business Daily (IBD). This is an ULTRA RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE rag. I use to subscribe for the investment information but I would puke when i read their editorials. Finally, I wrote a letter to them describing my feelings about their bs and discontinued my subscription. I do notice that he does post on this board as a Tr0ll. Flag him and his ilk.

And it gets worse. In Colorado, there are 13,000 absentee ballots that a California company claims to have mailed out but the people who should have received them by last Friday have yet to see them. There are many elderly who are very upset and feel that they won't get to vote.

The suppression tactics of the GOP runs deep and it's well orchestrated. It's amazing that after the theft of 2000 we're still f-ing around with this type of thing. When will those responsible be sent to prison?

Hillary voters are still democrats! They turned out in record numbers! How many disenfranchised voters do you expect to get?

The big problems in the black community that lead to most other problems is lack of hope. When you look around at your high school as a black teen in the 1980s and you realize you have to drop your dream of one day being POTUS because all the extra-curricular programs have been cut that would allow you to compete in the Ivy Leagues. No marching band, no sports teams except basketball for boys, no drama club, no Mathletes, no chess club...nothing. Its like somebody decided we wouldn't need all that stuff because we would be nothing but welfare recipients when we grew up. What did we need Tubas and violins for? We were just gonna sell them for crack, I suppose they thought.

What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore then run?

No it doesn't. It manifests itself in Barack Obama. Me--dream deferred-not so much. :D

But don't forget the other thing that defers dreams: kids that like academics are called "white" "nerd" and considered "corny". It is not all what society does to us, it is what we do to each other. I know it is true because I recall that from high school. I am hoping Obama becomes a symbol that is it not only possible for a black chld to be president, but that being book-oriented is not something to look down on.

I feel ya. There was no competition for a better student to take me out. I could get good grades doing almost nothing because no one else was encouraged except the obvious nerdy chick. I knew a lot of closet nerds. I wonder what happened to them?

I have often heard this but as an Black parent of a child in advanced classes I have never seen it. There are many Black kids in these classes and they compete to be the best. No one ever says they are acting white.

I was also in advanced classes as a child with many other Black kids and we all tried to do well. No one would ever think that excellence is a white thing.

I think this is an urban myth.

I wish people would stop buying into the myths about the black community. The only reason you hear about the "bad" stuff is that it's the stereotypical view. Many black kids are smart and are doing well. There are always good turnouts for those wanting to get their children into private schools and such. Yes, there are things that definitely have to change, but there are many success stories too! VOTE OBAMA-BIDEN 08!

Oh Chuck Todd, always so reassuring when I start to get nervous about Republican electoral shenanigans.

Remember: voter suppression and caging only really works in close races. An overwhelming turnout can erase the underhandedness of these tactics. So vote, vote early, and make sure Obama has a nice cushion on Nov. 4 to compensate for Republican fraud.

Hey. John McCain is Irish isn't he? What about the Irish American vote. How come Blacks are the only group polled for loyalty?

Frankly, I doubt these old ladies would be jumping out of the nursing home for a Clarence Thomas. I think it is who Obama is as a person. Old black people also loved Jack Kennedy. I am in my 40s, when I was a child I would go in homes (of other black people) and the old grandmas would have 3 pictures on the wall:

Martin Luther King
John F. Kennedy and
Jesus.
