Chuck Todd: African-American Turnout Putting Deep Red States In Play (VIDEO)

Appearing on Meet the Press, NBC's Chuck Todd noted that early voting is "through the roof," and that turnout is threatening John McCain even in states that lean his way, including Georgia and North Carolina. Turnout among African-Americans might be "somewhere between 95 and 100 percent in some of these states," he noted, upturning some red-leaning southern states. According to Todd, GOP strategists are now asking, "Is South Carolina now in single digits? What's going on in Mississippi?"

Todd also said that Obama has built enough strength in other states that he can likely lose Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio and still get to 270 electoral votes.

Instead of answering Brokaw's question about what fears the McCain camp admits to, Kelly O'Donnell engages in a long, uncritical repeat of the McCain campaign's complaints, talks up the possibility of McCain grabbing New Hampshire's FOUR electoral votes, champions the McCain as comeback-"kid" argument, and even denies any evidence of the internecine recriminations roiling the McCain campaign that so many media outlets have reported.

This is the best news of all! Election turnout in America is generally pathetic, but this year it will be high, ... perhaps as high as it ever has been. Properly counted, we can know what the American People want for ourselves, and not what the parties want for us instead. For the first time in a long time, perhaps the dog will have a chance to wag its own tail.

This is really of note because MSNBC and Chuck Todd have been very conservative in changing state colors. I like that he figures a state's past voting pattern into their decisions. I've been reluctant to get excited about VA and CO, because of their Republican DNA, and I think I always felt that on Nov. 4th, they may revert back to that. So it's good that Todd is now thinking we've crossed that threshold, and they're ready to go blue, at least in theory.

My husband and I were at the Obama rally in Denver today, which pulled, per police, more than 100,000 attendees. With all the Dems that have moved into Colorado in the last 10 or so years (like me, from CA), and the large Hispanic population, the color of Colorado has begun to turn dramatically so I have high hopes for this election. We just elected a Democratic governor, as well.
