Financial Times

Financial Times:

US presidential elections involve a fabulous expense of time, effort and money. Doubtless it is all too much - but, by the end, nobody can complain that the candidates have been too little scrutinised. We have learnt a lot about Barack Obama and John McCain during this campaign. In our view, it is enough to be confident that Mr Obama is the right choice.

At the outset, we were not so confident. Mr Obama is inexperienced. His policies are a blend of good, not so good and downright bad. Since the election will strengthen Democratic control of Congress, a case can be made for returning a Republican to the White House: divided government has a better record in the United States than government united under either party.

The Economist

AsThe financial crisis pushes the economy back to the top of voters’ concerns, Barack Obama is starting to open up a clear lead over John~McCain in the opinion polls. But among those who study economics for a living, Mr Obama’s lead is much more commanding. A survey of academic economists by The Economist finds the majority—at times by overwhelming margins—believe Mr Obama has the superior economic plan, a firmer grasp of economics and will appoint better economic advisers.

Local Economist Endorses Obama

This endorsement alone should be more than enough to sway Independent voters who are still conflicted about this election. It should now be fundamentally clear that Barack Obama is the man with the necessary leadership skills required to repair the mess created by GOP policies over the last eight years.

I am nervous at this FT endorsement.

Reason: the FT stands for economic fundamentalism, meaning no regulation, 'whatever it takes to make a profit,' and basically, the worker doesn't matter.

For the FT to endorse Obama makes me wonder: what will Obama actually DO once in office? Will he further the decline of the American worker? Will he side with the banks and Wall Street? [he has received more campaign $ from WS than McCain has by a 2:1 ratio].

The FT is NOT pro worker. The FT is as 'fundamentalist' as your basic southern Baptist regarding the economy.

I say: be afraid that the FT has endorsed Obama.

Did you actually read the article? the reasons they gave for supporting Obama were more about competence and leadership than about specific policies.

You have no clue what the Financial Times is. You have no clue that it is NOT an American piece of crap. You have no clue because you're a Goober, the son of a Goober, who was the son of another Goober; you come from a long line of Goobers and it shows.

This is landmark -- an anti-tax, pro business financial publication recognizing Obama is the only man to take us away from Bush's failed policies. wow.

More socialists (Or is it communists) endorsing Obama. I agree with many of the comments they made as well.

Unrestricted international trade has been the orthodox position of British financial interests since before World War One. What else would you expect from an island empire. But, just like the U.S. today, the British free traders traded on terms that benefited themselves, regardless of the cost to others. This practice was part of the cause of World War One. So while the endorsement of the Financial Times is useful, we must note their reservations on trade policy and note that they and all free traders will continue to maneuver for trade policies that will enrich their ruling class cabals and screw the American worker.

I predict this future narrative from a McCain commercial:

"The Financial Times called Obama 'Inexperienced' and said his policies were '...downright bad...'.

This endorsement I would have to say is the final nail in McCain/Palin campaign. I suppose the Campaign response would be Oh that's a washed up rag.

Someone please clear something up for me, isn't this Paper owned by Rupert Murdoch ?

No, Murdoch's News Corp owns the Wall Street Journal.

The FT is owned by a media conglomerate called Pearson:

Pearson and News Corp are competitors.

You are probably thinking of the Brittish papers The Times and The Sunday Times. As Bluebayou101 states Pearson PLC owns The Financial Times.

Could they have been a tad bit more positive? How do you endorse someone by pointing out all the things you think are wrong with his proposals?

No candidate is perfect nor do candidates have all the answers or the best plans.
BUT, a great candidate will get people involved and will work with these same people to make the right decisions and to come up with the best possible plan to improve life for everyone NOT JUST A FEW.

VOTE EARLY if you can.
Give someone a ride to the polls....
WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN
