Rapemailer

Americablog:

I got a self-mailer from the NRSC [National Republican Senatorial Committee] today.

My wife and I have 3 small boys under 6 years old. So when I saw the cartoon cover that says "Come on in kids..." then talks about rape with a little girl on the opposite page you can guess my utter disgust.

....

How sick are the Republicans? Creating a children's book talking about rape, and then sending it to Minnesota's children, all on behalf of Norm Coleman. So much for Coleman claiming the negative advertising was going to stop. (Then again, Coleman was at a rally last week where Obama was compared to mass murderer Charles Manson.) But making sleazy campaign literature look like a children's book, then sending it unwrapped into Minnesotans' homes so their kids can find it. Not very Senatorial.

As if John McCain himself hasn't joked about rape? Here's a link to an article, right here on HuffPo:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/15/sources-recall-mccains-jo_n_112955.html

Franken was a comedian when he made his jokes. Stupid and sophomoric, for sure, but that's what he did for a living. McCain joked about rape when he was a US Senator, for goodness' sake! How childish and demeaning is THAT?

Also, check out McCain's "oh so funny" joke about Chelsea Clinton. Same article. Classy guy, that McCain.

It's hypocritical of the GOP to run this sort of smear ad against Franken when they can just look at the head of their own presidential ticket and find even worse garbage.

They are that desperate. Just when you think the republicans couldn't get any sleazier they top themselves. I think they count on the dems never getting as sleazy and corrupt as they're willing to get, but they are miscalculating the mood of the country. People don't want empty, Bush-style thuggery anymore. The times are too dire to get taken in by sloganism and shadiness. Shame on this guy.

Go, Al, go. Way to put your money where your very funny mouth is.

So by calling him "Senator Franken" the Republicans have already admitted Coleman is going to lose.

So my choices are

1.) Funny guy with a Harvard education
2.) Guy who sends children rape comics to win an election

This shouldn't be too hard.

One would think it would be a simple enough decision,... let's hope the people of Minnesota get it right.

Despicable.

No wonder the country is in such a mess right now. This is the caliber of person occupying the senate.

We've got to change this, Minnesota. Please help.

I think this refers to the time he co-wrote a skit on SNL which joked about rape, contained porn etc.

Norm Coleman made a big sanctimonious statement about dumping his negative ads. But we who live here feel no relief from the sleazy campaign he's run from day one. He has simply allowed the 527's to be his bad cop. We've seen the worst ads ever against Al Franken since Norm supposedly waved the white flag. It burns my britches that Norm has so villified this decent man whose been married to his beloved Franny for 30 years while everyone in my neighborhood(a stone's throw from Coleman's Minnesota home) knows the only time he sees his wife is when he runs for office. Then she shows up in his ads. I could give a fig about how Norm conducts his personal life, but his hypocracy is beyond the pale.

We donated $25 the other night to the Al Franken campaign. Anything we can do to make our government less like the lowest among us, we will do.

That is the craziest thing I've ever heard of.

During the next 8 days expect the most irrational line of BS to ever be thrown out by a candidate running for office. The GOP is a wounded animal and at this point has nothing to lose and will say anything at this point. John McCain is going to pull down the whole GOP bunch.

I think it fits. If you think about it, their advertising to a 5th grade mentality called the hard right wingers.
