Why did he even bother naming them? It was such a cheap counterpoint to the Powell Endorsement.

At least he didn't launch into naming all the "200 flag officers and generals" supporting him. That would have put even Tom Brokaw to sleep!

The main piont is, all of the ones he named is republican I think. Colin Powell has backed Obama, and he is a 4 Star General "Republican"..

Because he's got serious ego issues. It drives him nuts that Powell didn't endorse him, yet he has this need to blow it off and try to remind us all of the people who did endorse him.

Well, did anyone see the speech from New Mexico yesterday where he called Obama's running mate "Joe the Biden"? I swear it happened! Even the people behind him rolled their eyes.

He is obsessed with Joe the Plumber and can't even say Biden's name correctly.

I heard him say "Joe the Biden. Sheesh. "John the Elder" is having memory lapses and confusion. Don't forget either that the ancient one mentioned his idol Teddy Roosevelt in the second debate.

it was also funny that McCain obviously didn't know the movies that Tom Brokaw mentioned (Field of Dreams and Perfect Storm) so he referred to Knute Rockne

"Masters Of War" by Bob Dylan

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

One of the greatest songs ever, and Mr. Dylan sings it now with renewed vigor and venom.

It's OK... shortly after Nov 4th, many of us will start saying "You know, the Republican candidates... um, er, uhhh... well, their names will come to me later".

Only if the outcome isn't presumed, and we continue to make our best efforts to get out the vote on election day.

I saw this interview! It made me gasp and confirmed to me that this man is past his prime, even if he has good intentions, so Mr. Obama, America is putting it's faith in you and your party to lead us out of this mess. It's time for a new generation to take over and lead us away from the white conservative male good ole boy network, I hope and pray it works.

Give the guy a break. He's exhausted. I agree that he didn't sound good. I'm just starting to feel a little sorry for him because I think he won't really recover from this whole election experience. I know he is a big boy and that payback is bitch, but hammering him because he momentarily forgot Schultz seem like it is the kind of mean-spiritedness that I usually see from Republicans.

What war did McCain win, and what test is he talking about?

Obama/Biden 2008

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:17 PM on 10/26/2008

McCain claims that no foreign leader would test him because McCain has been tested during the Cuban Missle Crisis. McCain makes it sound like he was the president or a top naval officer.

In 1961 McCain was crashing planes in Corpus Cristi, Texas and also caused an internation incident in Spain when he flew a plan through power lines and took out power in an entire region of Spain.

McCain was NOT the president. It was JFKENNEDY.

This whole show was disturbing. McCain constantly distorted Obama's record
with no attempt at correction by Brokaw. Then Kelly O'Donnell, McCain spokeswoman?
after trying to scare people with the "Democrat" not "Democratic" Congress,
put out an unsubstantiated smear about "Obama's small donors". Her reports
are never much more than McCain's daily talking points. That's the Liberal media.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:16 PM on 10/26/2008

They never try to correct. They just serve up the softball questions and allow the talking head to respond. I can only hope there is a H.E.L.L. and Bro.kaw can burn in it.

Brokaw is no Tim Russert, whom we miss dearly during this election season...I really believe he is in the tank for McCain...it was a pathetic interview on both sides...McCain is past his prime and Brokaw is just not strong enough to handle these interviews...

Amen, I do miss Tim. Tom and John started recalling old times and complimenting each other during the interview. He's the wrong guy to replace Tim on this show!

Brokaw just doesn't have what it takes for Meet the Press. He was clearly intimidated by McCain. This job calls for someone with more mental agility...Chris Matthews or Rachel Madow would be good choices.

I agree with you. One of McCain's repeated claims that Ireland only has an 11% tax on corporations and thus it is a healthier environment for business leaves out one important factor. Ireland gives its citizens FREE health care! If our companies did not have to provide health care, perhaps they would also get lower taxes. This, not to mention the fact that most corporations do not pay much tax at all with all of the loopholes provided.

Why does no one ever point that out? Other countries give people a lot of extras that do not have to be provided by their employers. That is really important.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:20 PM on 10/26/2008

I had the same thought ,even if American companies operating in the U.S paid only 11% in taxes, many would still go abroad because of the health care issue. Good point. So Senator Obama's plan for health insurance for all will be a win win for workers and companies alike.

Well, it's also well known that Brokaw is less than a neutral party when it comes to this campaign. He is a McCain supporter, and wouldn't correct the Senator if he said "Tom, the sky is green."

Mathews would be horrible in my opinion... he's just not clever enough. Sometimes he gets on a roll and makes sense, but he's unable to grasp humor, irony, subtlety, or to adapt to a change in the flow in the river of conversation. Maddow is still green (someday, though). Olberman is a sort of affable bully, too in-your-face. I don't know who would be good, but none of them. Maybe Chuck Todd, but is he ever on the interviewing side of a mic?

I disagree. I think Matthews is very clever. He's keenly aware of the incredibly stupid fumbles and lies of the McCain/Palin campaign. I think he would step up to the plate for Meet the Press, and I think he would NOT throw any softballs.
Same for Maddow.... she's no wuss......truth is... McCain would refuse to sit with either of them because he is a total wuss....

Of course, there is one other person who would be a great host for Meet The Press :

Matthews sucks. Every time someone lies, he responds with a "yea" "yea" affirming the lie.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:09 PM on 10/26/2008

The problem with Chris Matthews is that he loves to hear himself talk. He feels compelled to say at least 10 times as many words as the person he is interviewing. Quite irritating. he must be in love with his own voice.

Guys, remember McCain is 72 years old. He doesn't have the stamina for the grueling work he has been doing on his campaign for so many months. Lying also takes a toll on people. With all the lies, twisted facts and misrepresentations he has spouted throughout his campaign, is it any wonder he can't remember stuff? He is tired....he should be resting somewhere in Florida where old folks go.

I was shocked at how bizarre Mac sounded on MTP. I do think Tom should have tried a little harder to interrupt him while he was on one of his rants and make him actually answer a question.
