What's Your Reaction?

Sarah Palin addresses the $150,000 in clothing purchased for her by the Republican National Committee at a rally. She compares the outfits to the lighting at an event, saying it doesn't belong to her and that she will go back to shopping at her "favorite consignment store" once the race is over. She went on to highlight some of her inexpensive accessories. Watch:

John McCain also defended the purchases on "Meet The Press" Sunday morning. He said that a third of the clothing has been returned, and that the rest will be donated to charity.

However, Palin's remarks were apparently not approved by the campaign. The incident is another example of tensions in the ticket that were reported over the weekend, as the vice presidential candidate is starting to go "rogue."

Some aides to Sen. John McCain say they weren't happy that running mate Sarah Palin went off script Sunday and turned attention back to the controversy over her wardrobe.

...

A senior McCain adviser told CNN that those comments "were not the remarks we sent to her plane." Palin did not discuss the wardrobe story at her rally in Kissimmee, Florida, later in the day.

A Palin aide, however, told CNN that the governor clearly felt like she had to say something to defend herself, because "that's really not who she is."

Over the weekend, sources told CNN that long-brewing tensions between Palin and key aides to McCain were on the rise.

Several McCain advisers suggested that they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue."

So tell me, did Sarah not notice that someone, a professional, was doing her makeup? About $22,000 worth.

Besides, this Wardrobe Malfunction story is more about the character of the McCain-Palin campaign than Palin's wardrobe or Palin personally. The campaign is hypocrisy personnified in the form of the excessive expenditure. The McCain showed just how out of touch it is. Period.

What happened to "Thanks. But, no thanks."

Like the other thanks but no thanks, it was all good for her until it became a laughingstock.

You mean, the phrase she should've used when approached about becoming VP? "Thanks, but no thanks, Senator McCain....I'm not prepared."

Does any one know if any of the Palin children are in school? I am amazed that out of five children, not one has completed high school or is in school today.

Would you like it better if they were home schooled ? Then you could complain about that too.

The children are home-schooled, though obviously not in the literal sense of the term.

Well, the good news is that now everyone will stop talking about her clothes.

But the bad news is that's because everyone will be talking about Alaska senator Ted Stevens guilty on all seven corruption counts.

I am a near 30 year resident of Alaska, but not a Palin supporter. She may actually be speaking the truth about not picking out these clothes, returning them, donating, whatever. HOWEVER, her little consignment shop...well, they sell designer labels only, purchased in the last two years and yes, you can pay hundreds, rather than thousands for DESIGNER labels...Salvation Army or Walmart, it ain't! Check out their website at www.outoftheclosetalaska.com.

She can't get off the stage quick enough for me. Alaska can have her and I know that she will get re-elected again. Can you imagine her as the head of the Republican party. She has had at least her 15 minutes and its go back and be a governor were you can see Putin looking at you and the Air Force never tells you when things are happening in the skys over Alaska. Oh by the way, might want to re-think the pipe line deal again.

As they say "how do you keep em down on the farm once they've seen the city lights" ... no ... Palin hasn't gone through al of this just to end up back in Alaska. Once you've tasted perrier ... once you've felt Valentino on your skin ... look ... just look http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2009/spring/main/europe/womenrunway/valentino/slideshow.html?0 . No Sarah ... like Steppenwolf"you can never go home again".

Since Ted Stevens has been convicted, maybe she can appoint herself the replacement senator.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:53 PM on 10/27/2008

I agree. She's gotten the taste of the national stage. She believes all her hype. And her base to too unintelligent to see her for what she is.

Good news for Palin: People are going to stop talking about her clothes.
Bad news for Palin: Because people are talking about Alaska senator Ted Stevens being guilty on all seven counts.

Sarah is so taken with herself and that type of people do not follow the rules and do what they are supposed to do. I hope she doesn't flatter herself into thinking that she will be back in 2012. I think that the thinking people of Alaska are none too happy with her. Between Troopergate and questions about who really built her house, she might be joining Ted Stevens in the prison population.

This is the first I've heard of this. As much as I dislke Palin, the display is totally inappropriate and not funny at all. It's like the one of a white sheet person hanging from a tree by a noose with Obama's name on it. Neither of these situations is humorous. Are people becoming so desensitized to violence that they find these kinds of things actually funny?

That is inappropriate, but nobody in the Ob ama campaign did it. I don't know what else there is to say. It's horrible and inappropriate. But, being as it is for Halloween, I don't think it's hateful.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:09 PM on 10/27/2008

I don't think this is nearly as offensive as the Obama effigy b/c 1) neither one of these two name the candidates whereas the O effigy had (to have) a sign hanging off of it or else it would have been mistaken for a Halloween prop. If I'm wrong and they do identify them by name I'm mistaken but the article doesn't say so and the pix don't show it. This speaks volumes about the talent on our side as opposed to theirs but that's beside the point. What isn't is that they really could be anyone or no one. You, the viewer, are deciding who they are. 2) I don't know about you but a black guy hanged in effigy from a tree makes me think of the Lynching Times. What is the historical parallel that is so horrifying in this case? If anything you could make a Mc/Santa argument if you wanted to. 3) Halloween is all about spookiness. The artist is right to say that at a different time of year this installation would be problematic. In this context, where would you begin censoring? Many Halloween props and costumes are offensive or repulsive.

Right. She didn't "plan on talking about this" but she had 3 canned pandering bits about her accessories. And these morons eat it right up. The sad part is even after the Nov. 4, we are going to be subjected to this dingbat for many years to come.

I have an idea: lets carve up the USA in "states" and then we can put all the morons in the "red states" so the rest of us can get on with our lives and be productive members of society.

I propose Kansas and Nebraska...two of the dullest, flattest, ugliest, and smelliest places in the country...if not the planet. We could call it Moronia, or New Idiotica. Then, we could install a giant fence that would be cheaper than a border fence with Mexico. This would not be a "state" with voting rights and representation, but a "possession" like Guam and Puerto Rico...semi-autonomous, but no rights as part of the Union.

Sort of a reservation for the Limbaugh, O'Riley, Timothy Vey types that hide behind the old respectable Republican name brand? No wait. We already have a place like that and it's called Texas, Idaho and Oklahoma.
