Rove On McCain: "Very Steep Hill To Climb"

John McCain has a "very steep hill to climb" to win the election, former White House adviser Karl Rove told "Fox News Sunday."

Rove, nicknamed "The Architect" for his role in helping President Bush win the last two elections, gave a sober assessment of McCain's chances, explaining that Barack Obama is ahead with 317 electoral votes, according to his own electoral map.

Rove forecast that Virginia, Colorado, Indiana and Ohio would go Obama's way and that McCain has to win back those states and dominate the remaining battleground states to have any chance of winning:

In order to -- in order for McCain to win, he's got a very steep hill to climb. He's got to win all of the toss-up states, 64 electoral votes, all the yellow-shaded states on the map.

Then he needs to strip away Ohio and Indiana with 31 electoral votes to get him to 252. And then he needs to either win Colorado and Virginia, which gets him to 274, or win one of them plus Pennsylvania, which would get him to 282 or 286. It's a steep uphill climb.

Rove also commented on recent reports about infighting within the McCain campaign:

It is a sign of undisciplined people who do not have the loyalty that they ought to have to the candidate whom they're serving. And it's -- it's a sad sight to see. Nobody makes themselves look good by this process..

A good Rovian move would be for the O camp to announce on Tues/Wed that their internal polling now has them up specifically in GA to psyche out McSame and make them decide if they need to commit resources there in the last few days......their campaign is already infighting and having to defend red states........shake them up.

Who cares if it's true, on Wed they'll own the news cycle because of O/Bill appearance down in Fla.

I wouldn't refer to the idea of using mind games as a strategy as "Rovian". It's done all the time in business, sports and (unfortunately) finance.

"Rovian" to me represents an intensely negative, gutter style of politics that tries to:

1. Elevate trivial moral issues to whip up voters to act emotionally instead of with reason
2. Distract from real issues.
3. Try to denegrate the strengths of opponents through ridicule and demogoguery.
4. Divide the country along racial, religious or regional lines.
5. Lie incessantly while claiming the higher moral ground.

I could probably list another 20 or 30 but those are my top 5.

Dear RSU, I know a little about submitting evidence to a court. "Drafts" have no weight in Court, a draft is just something that can be denied , revoked or rebuked by the Draftee originator!!! I have filed many many positions before many courts and to file a draft without an attached affidavit ( your contention "not signed"), would not be allowed into the court records , transcripts or have any validity, An attempt to enter and unsigned ( No affidavit) draft would be laughed out of the courtroom. So yes you don't know much about rules of evidence in a courtroom RSU and Yes that is a fact.

Rove doesn't accept a single bit of responsibility for the situation the Republicans are facing. He and Mark Penn share the characteristic that they simply don't understand what is happening. The electorate is changing. The center right "Reagan Democrats" are replaced by the swelling of the young, more liberal voters that have joined the voter rolls.

Rove spends all his time trying to slice and dice numbers like it's a math problem, instead of the real problem which is that Republicans espouse a dogma which leaves a bad taste in the mouths of many voters.
