Hasselbeck Palin

At a Sarah Palin rally in Tampa, Florida today, "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed media coverage of the $150,000 in Republican National Committee expenditures on high-end clothing for Palin.

"Now, with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd," Hasselbeck said. "But let me tell you, this is deliberately sexist."

In a moment of unintended irony, an audience member cat-called Hasselbeck with a whistle in the seconds after she made the comment.

Hasselbeck, describing herself as "sassy," then added that she was "most impressed by her accessories," including an American flag pin in honor of Palin's son, Track, who recently deployed to Iraq. "They didn't list that accessory... because they know it's priceless."

In her introduction of Palin, Hasselbeck also cited Palin's support of equal pay for equal work, despite her and John McCain's opposition to the recent Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

In her recent interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Palin explained her reasoning:

Palin: I'm absolutely for equal pay for equal work. The Ledbetter pay act - it was gonna turn into a boon for trial lawyers who, I believe, could have taken advantage of women who were many, many years ago who would allege some kind of discrimination. Thankfully, there are laws on the books, there have been since 1963, that no woman could be discriminated against in the workplace in terms of anything, but especially in terms of pay. So, thankfully we have the laws on the books and they better be enforced.

Couric: The Ledbetter act sort of lengthens the time a woman can sue her company if she's not getting equal pay for equal work. Why should a fear of lawsuits trump a woman's ability to do something about the fact that women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. And that's today.

Palin: There should be no fear of a lawsuit prohibiting a woman from making sure that the laws that are on the books today are enforced. I know in a McCain-Palin administration we will not stand for any measure that would result in a woman being paid less than a man for equal work.

Couric: Why shouldn't the Ledbetter act be in place? You think it would result in lawsuits brought by women years and years ago. Is that your main problem with it?

Palin: It would have turned into a boon for trial lawyers. Again, thankfully with the existing laws we have on the books, they better be enforced. We won't stand for anything but that. We won't stand for any discrimination in the workplace - that there isn't any discrimination in America.

did anyone fact-check this bimbo's claim that Obama pays his female staff 20% less than his male staff? i respect her passion for her views and beliefs, but l suspect this tidbit is a bald-faced lie! i guess she's venturing into the territory of sean hannity and bill o'rieley to prepare for her inevitable move to Faux News Channel!

MAVERICKS? These are Mad Cows! Stupidity just tumbles out of their mouths as they lick each other up and down. Elizabeth Hasselbeck can always be counted on to show a lack of thoughtful flexibility. It's as if she's loaded with McCain talking points and smear, and she's poised in her VIEW chair waiting to cut loose. She's not listening to the conversation, she's looking for a cue.

She needs to defect to Faux Noise, and get it over with. The View should honestly re-think their panel choice anyway, because although she does [proudly] represent the "Other Perspective" according to Barbara, offering the concervative balance to the show's liberal swing, Elizabeth does not respresent the Modern American Woman. That womyn is unselfishly, non-judgementally Pro-Choice, cultured, and fair. She is unwilling to take a bribe to look the other way, unlike so many who do, polluting the Right, and the government we know today. She is not willing to vote for a presidential ticket who so CLEARLY does not fight for the rights of the Modern Woman, but in contrast, is ardently passionate about sending us back into the dark ages. Elizabeth, go, girl. No one is stopping you. I hear they are dusting off a spot at Fox, just for you.

I can' stand her politics, but Elizabeth has done a very effective job using her position on the View to advance her political agenda. Now that Rosie is off the show, there's no one on the show to really counter right-wing rhetoric consistently, plus she serves as a representative for the show every time she campaigns.

I see Michele Obama wore an outfit from J Crew on the Tonight Show, an outfit she purchased herself, probably on-line. The Obamas pay for all their own clothes, because they just "their clothes."

Of course what can you expect from Palin, a person who makes the state reimburse her for sleeping in her own bed. I guess how else would this unimpressive woman amass a net worth of $1.2 million or so?

EH said she brought up the topic of Palin's clothes on Sunday to be a period on this discussion. She wanted people to realize that there are more important things like the issues to be talking about.

We all see how successfuly she was at that. And since when did the Repubs want to start talking about the issues. I think it's ironic given how hard the Repubs tried to turn this election into a character assassination of Obama that it has boiled down to a lot of infighting among the Repubs over clothes. Gotta make you chuckle.

Funny...never heard this much bitching when Hillary was running for Pres. before your favorite
Obama beat her.....

She dresses pretty well and got a lot of money from other people as well as did Obama.
Wonder where all those millions of dollars went.

It is shameful all the money that has been squandered on this election from both sides but
more so from the Dem. candidate.

Anyway, keep talking about Palin.....keeps her in the news doesn't it... so who is the dumb one.....haha

We don't have to keep talking about Palin. She's doing a good job on her own making herself out as the dumb one whenever she opens her mouth. No wonder the rest of the world continues to laugh and shake their heads at the U.S.

The repub's missed the boat totally on this one. If they had any smarts, they would have outfitted Ms Palin in clothes from Target, Wal Mart, K Mart, etc, for say around $5000 -$10.000. They could have touted her as the "hockey Mom" who knows how to dress on a budget. She has a nice figure and it would have worked for them. Going to Neiman's for her duds is so 1980's. In light of our current financial disaster, this was stupid.
It just shows how oblivious they are to the "real America". Then to compound it, they choose EH as a spokeswoman, who is a throwback to the 1950's. Just another photogenic blond from the Fox herd. Apparently they couldn't find a real woman from this decade willing to speak for Sarah.

I agree with you! A hockey mom does not have a $150,000 wardrobe. Since anyone who has a 3-digit IQ knew right away that she was unqualified, the new, sophisticated wardrobe highlighted the fact that she was selected for her looks, and not her brains.

I think the rich fat cats there could not bring themselves to walk into Wal-Mart (eww), Gap or Target. Too plebeian.

I voted today....straight REPUBLICAN ticket. I am not a rich fat anything. I also shopped at Wal-mart today, as well as Sams club, even made a stop at Goodwill. As you continue your cruel words and hatred toward someone, remember what goes around, comes around. You libs make yourselves look so cruel and its always and "in your face attitude". When republicans win, it is with class....we did not shove it down your throat when Bush won, but just watch what will happen if dems win.

And if Barack wins.....he will be spreading the wealth....don't worry it will come from the pockets of those who employ many of you, there is a trickle down effect that will happen. And the stock market....there will not be any stabilization for fear of whose hand is dipping into whose pocket.

Is Sarah Palin's other daughter pregnant? I've been thinking that because she looks more shapely for a 14 year old, and just a second ago Entertainment Tonight showed a preview of their interview with Sarah Palin and it said they will talk about her pregnant daughter and it showed a picture of her 14 year old instead of the 17 year old?

Nothing can replace the warm, love and attention of a parent! To those who are voting for McCain because they are pro-life, please consider that if the Palins' children had more of their parents' attention perhaps they would not be seeking that attention via activities that they clearly are not ready for.

I know more liberal kids involved in "these activities" than I do conservatives.

Have you never made a mistake? At least she is handling it with dignity and doing the right thing.....keeping a life.

At this point, I think that the GOP is counting on Palin to stir up the lowest of the mouth-breathing, cousin marrying, squirrel shooting, faux noise watching, hate-mongering christian right. Really, who else does this disgrace to her gender appeal to? Elizabiotch is really just one of those demented sycophants, but in slightly shinier packaging... a natural choice, I suppose.

Wow. I can't imagine two more annoying thick-headed and dangerously ignorant women. If they were plain or overweight nobody would give a rat's butt what they had to say. They're lucky enough to look good - and that's all they have. Add Cindy Mc to the mix and you've got a whole lotta vapid goin' on. Save us from this malarkey - One week away from the end of their hateful rants!
