"Sassy" Hasselbeck: Criticism Of Palin's Clothing Expenditures Is "Deliberately Sexist" (VIDEO)

Hasselbeck Palin

At a Sarah Palin rally in Tampa, Florida today, "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed media coverage of the $150,000 in Republican National Committee expenditures on high-end clothing for Palin.

"Now, with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd," Hasselbeck said. "But let me tell you, this is deliberately sexist."

In a moment of unintended irony, an audience member cat-called Hasselbeck with a whistle in the seconds after she made the comment.

Hasselbeck, describing herself as "sassy," then added that she was "most impressed by her accessories," including an American flag pin in honor of Palin's son, Track, who recently deployed to Iraq. "They didn't list that accessory... because they know it's priceless."

In her introduction of Palin, Hasselbeck also cited Palin's support of equal pay for equal work, despite her and John McCain's opposition to the recent Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

In her recent interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Palin explained her reasoning:

Palin: I'm absolutely for equal pay for equal work. The Ledbetter pay act - it was gonna turn into a boon for trial lawyers who, I believe, could have taken advantage of women who were many, many years ago who would allege some kind of discrimination. Thankfully, there are laws on the books, there have been since 1963, that no woman could be discriminated against in the workplace in terms of anything, but especially in terms of pay. So, thankfully we have the laws on the books and they better be enforced.

Couric: The Ledbetter act sort of lengthens the time a woman can sue her company if she's not getting equal pay for equal work. Why should a fear of lawsuits trump a woman's ability to do something about the fact that women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. And that's today.

Palin: There should be no fear of a lawsuit prohibiting a woman from making sure that the laws that are on the books today are enforced. I know in a McCain-Palin administration we will not stand for any measure that would result in a woman being paid less than a man for equal work.

Couric: Why shouldn't the Ledbetter act be in place? You think it would result in lawsuits brought by women years and years ago. Is that your main problem with it?

Palin: It would have turned into a boon for trial lawyers. Again, thankfully with the existing laws we have on the books, they better be enforced. We won't stand for anything but that. We won't stand for any discrimination in the workplace - that there isn't any discrimination in America.

And I suppose that makes my saying Hasselbeck's 15 minutes should have been up years ago is "deliberately bleached-blondist."

Are these two women being deliberately stupid, because dumb and dumber aren't helping women who are in the 21st century.

It's the $150,000 wardrobe that's the story not the gender of the wearer. Once again, we're supposed to believe that the RNC party candidate is the victim of a heinous attack by the facts.

It's as if Sarah thinks she's a sports team, and all the approved talking points are her players.

When she's called on to answer a question, she just sends the whole team in, and they kick and pass the ball of her "answer" from soundbite to soundbite, until she figures she's somewhere near the end-zone -- or has just run far enough to get a down.

Yardage (of recording tape) seems to count in this game -- even if actual points don't -- so even if she doesn't goal, she stops when the clock runs out, and punts.

The real point of the game seems to consist of parading the players endlessly in front of the cameras, with arms waving high, and cheering them on in the most "patriotic" rhetoric possible. Of course she's never published the rules of the game -- and likely won't, because she hasn't made them all up yet.

Her first love was teevee sportscasting. It seems she's found the perfect way to do that -- at the expense of actual accountability.

Hasselbeck and Palin are the same species. Not very bright attractive women who manage to get themselves high profile jobs. They ought to be commended for their resourcefulness but that doesn't mean they have a brain between them. They also have something else in common, neither is qualified to be vice president. As for Hasselbeck's indignation about the clothes issue, why isn't she equally upset that Palin was found guilty of abusing her office and ethics violations? She conveniently ignores that. Can you imagine Hasselbeck's horror if a democrat had been convicted of such things?

Get ready for the Tweedle Dum - Tweedle Dee talk show coming soon to Fox after Nov. 4. What a pair of Dimwits...I guess they will have all the Dimwits flock to them when that wing breaks off from the Repub party.

Nor was there a mention on The View today of Hasselbeck's remark, "This is the first time I get to speak for a full five minutes without interruption"

It's not a real flag pin. It's a jewel encrusted vulgarity with the wrong amount of stripes and stars.

It is a pin that was sold by the American Legion a few years ago as a fund raiser. While I don't own one (thought they were really ugly) many who live in my community do. I recognized it immediately.

Elizabeth here is a newsflash for you Sara was reported on by the media for her clothes because of her deception in trying to portray herself as a soccer mom and a friend to joe sixpack...in her $180,000 worth of clothing which would take an average american at least 5 years to make in income....Thats the problem...its the hypocrisy of it all.....

Uh, maybe that why SHE didn't pay for them. The RNC picked them out and paid for them. Try to keep up. Seriously. Your comments make you look foolish...but then you're not alone in that on this topic.

If she thought they misrepresented her - and if as it was stated her own clothes look much the same - she had every opportunity to state she'd wear her own clothes. If she wore her own clothes for THIS particular scenario, why not prior?

There is an issue that she'd be fine spending other peoples' money, and that when the bill was being footed by someone else - the RNC, the American public, or whomever, as she WAS the recipient of gifts in Alaska that she should not have accepted - she's got no qualms about putting the image of herself that she's attempting to sell behind her.

Even in Alaska, she is not the average "hockey-mom" or Joe Six-pack type. Her family's income is 2.5 to 3 times that of the average family's. If you're going to talk the talk, then please do walk the walk. Otherwise you seem to be running for public office for the perks, not for the opportunity to be of service to the people.

Where is Joy Behar to shut this idiot up when you need her?
No wonder they don't let her talk for more than five minutes...

Lizzie doesn't know the party she's spewing about doesn't exist anymore. It's leaving with Bush and his cronies and Palin knows it. I think McCain knows it too.

Survivor contestant Hasselbeck. I keep thinking this girl was bitten by an insect or bug from the Outback, whose larvae is slowly eating away at her brain. wait, could it be induced by the bleach that give her those highlights!!

One minute she scorns the criticisms the next she bemoans, ".... with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd," such a hypocrite!! I would love to have a conversation with her, just once.
