"Sassy" Hasselbeck: Criticism Of Palin's Clothing Expenditures Is "Deliberately Sexist" (VIDEO)

At a Sarah Palin rally in Tampa, Florida today, "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed media coverage of the $150,000 in Republican National Committee expenditures on high-end clothing for Palin.

"Now, with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd," Hasselbeck said. "But let me tell you, this is deliberately sexist."

In a moment of unintended irony, an audience member cat-called Hasselbeck with a whistle in the seconds after she made the comment.

Hasselbeck, describing herself as "sassy," then added that she was "most impressed by her accessories," including an American flag pin in honor of Palin's son, Track, who recently deployed to Iraq. "They didn't list that accessory... because they know it's priceless."

In her introduction of Palin, Hasselbeck also cited Palin's support of equal pay for equal work, despite her and John McCain's opposition to the recent Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

In her recent interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Palin explained her reasoning:

Palin: I'm absolutely for equal pay for equal work. The Ledbetter pay act - it was gonna turn into a boon for trial lawyers who, I believe, could have taken advantage of women who were many, many years ago who would allege some kind of discrimination. Thankfully, there are laws on the books, there have been since 1963, that no woman could be discriminated against in the workplace in terms of anything, but especially in terms of pay. So, thankfully we have the laws on the books and they better be enforced.

Couric: The Ledbetter act sort of lengthens the time a woman can sue her company if she's not getting equal pay for equal work. Why should a fear of lawsuits trump a woman's ability to do something about the fact that women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. And that's today.

Palin: There should be no fear of a lawsuit prohibiting a woman from making sure that the laws that are on the books today are enforced. I know in a McCain-Palin administration we will not stand for any measure that would result in a woman being paid less than a man for equal work.

Couric: Why shouldn't the Ledbetter act be in place? You think it would result in lawsuits brought by women years and years ago. Is that your main problem with it?

Palin: It would have turned into a boon for trial lawyers. Again, thankfully with the existing laws we have on the books, they better be enforced. We won't stand for anything but that. We won't stand for any discrimination in the workplace - that there isn't any discrimination in America.

A thoughtful, well-researched opposing view delivered in a calm and rational voice would be an asset. How about pro-, con- and neutral views? But Ms H is shrill and bullying in pushing her view as "the one" and only right one. That's what so offensive about her.

Ok this is one isolated incident towards palin which is somewhat funny to me being that her supporters have been doing things like this all along with her cheering them on as patriotic and real america. but all of this is unacceptable even if it is towards mrs palin. however, i have no sympathy for the GOP nor Palin since this has been there sort of campaigning to begin with...

This is in responce to Palins inclination to start a riot at her speeches and have haters calling out Hatred against Obama. To me she seemed to encourage it.

The republican way...project yourself and your deeds onto others as your thoughts and actions are too repugnant for you to deal with. Don't confuse hate with the truth...truth stands alone.

EH conducts herself like a spoiled child that has had her way too long. Her rhetoric is shrill and petulant, and while an opposing view provides healthy discourse, hers has become tiresome and uninteresting.

I'm surprised that Elisabeth didn't cut right in on Ms. Palin's speech because she is constantly interrupting her co-workers on 'The View' and once she starts talking, she just won't shut up. It's very irritating, and it shows that she's really out of her element.

All we need to add is Mika simpering over at "Morning Junk" to join these two and the collective hot air could be harnessed as a new energy source.

It is true without doubt, and I'm Irish born and bred. His great great grandfather left Ireland for New York in 1850....and the rest is history...

Maybe she's jockeying for position? Have her own show on FOX and not have to share the stage with anyone else. Or...maybe she's getting all mavericky so she and her new BFF Sarah barracuda maverick the six-pack baby momma can have a show together? She only got the gig on The View because of Survivor doncha know.

Then let's criticize use of toys, suits for teenage Dad (no relation to anyone in RNC), all the family, especially not clothes, such as hairdo's, tweezing, shoes, plane trips, Disneyworld for the Alaskans...tours around Central Park with secret service....etc. Credibility gone for Elizabeth defending such!

She claiming not to be wearing those clothes anymore.
She said in one interview that half the clothes etc. were in the plane. I guess so they can go back to Alaska ... Joke on us

If it had been biden or obama that spent 150,000 dollars on clothes i'm sure you would not hear the end of it from the republicans or from the genius hasselbeck, also if the McCain/ Palin is for equal pay for women, why then did McCain skip the vote for the Ledbetter fair pay act? MCain said that women just needed more education if they wanted to be paid the same. Try doing some research Hasselbeck before you claim something that is'nt true about the candidate you support.

What really gets me thinking is that the REP campiagn and Sarah Palin claims that they are going to donate these $150.000 worth of designer clothes. My question is, to whom are they going to donate them to? I mean most charities need food, or help with heating, shelter and other means of survival. If they wanted to get some merits for donating maybe they should have shopped at more inexpensive stores and donated the rest of the money to help those that lost thier jobs and can't afford food? . As for Hasselback and the GOP defenders calling the disgust that the American people have for the shopping spree as "sexist" I think it is high time that someone lets them know that they are the ones who are sexist for picking Palin and dressing her up for a Beauty Pagent instead of a Presidential campaign. As for Hasselback, I can't stand watching the View because of her narrow minded views!

Beauty Pagent seems to be what Palin is really qualified is be.
I think it is obscene that she is even being considered for VP.

Elisabeth is just like Palin. Both are complete "AIR HEADS". Look at "The View" one ay if you haven't and you'll notice most of the time she doesn't know what th heck she is talking about. The other talk hosts are usually joking about about what she discusses.
