Hasselbeck Palin

At a Sarah Palin rally in Tampa, Florida today, "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck slammed media coverage of the $150,000 in Republican National Committee expenditures on high-end clothing for Palin.

"Now, with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd," Hasselbeck said. "But let me tell you, this is deliberately sexist."

In a moment of unintended irony, an audience member cat-called Hasselbeck with a whistle in the seconds after she made the comment.

Hasselbeck, describing herself as "sassy," then added that she was "most impressed by her accessories," including an American flag pin in honor of Palin's son, Track, who recently deployed to Iraq. "They didn't list that accessory... because they know it's priceless."

In her introduction of Palin, Hasselbeck also cited Palin's support of equal pay for equal work, despite her and John McCain's opposition to the recent Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination.

In her recent interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Palin explained her reasoning:

Palin: I'm absolutely for equal pay for equal work. The Ledbetter pay act - it was gonna turn into a boon for trial lawyers who, I believe, could have taken advantage of women who were many, many years ago who would allege some kind of discrimination. Thankfully, there are laws on the books, there have been since 1963, that no woman could be discriminated against in the workplace in terms of anything, but especially in terms of pay. So, thankfully we have the laws on the books and they better be enforced.

Couric: The Ledbetter act sort of lengthens the time a woman can sue her company if she's not getting equal pay for equal work. Why should a fear of lawsuits trump a woman's ability to do something about the fact that women make 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. And that's today.

Palin: There should be no fear of a lawsuit prohibiting a woman from making sure that the laws that are on the books today are enforced. I know in a McCain-Palin administration we will not stand for any measure that would result in a woman being paid less than a man for equal work.

Couric: Why shouldn't the Ledbetter act be in place? You think it would result in lawsuits brought by women years and years ago. Is that your main problem with it?

Palin: It would have turned into a boon for trial lawyers. Again, thankfully with the existing laws we have on the books, they better be enforced. We won't stand for anything but that. We won't stand for any discrimination in the workplace - that there isn't any discrimination in America.

I like Hasselbeck and I don't think she is bitter or anything like Coulter. I just think that she is completely misguided. I will say this there is NOTHING sexist about questioning the judgment of the RNC who offered to pay over $150K for Palin's clothing or Palin for accepting the clothes. Don't even get me started on that $700 purse she bought for her kid to sport. Huh? I am all for a good suit here and there, mix-n-match, all that...but anyone who thinks that you need $150K of clothing + $23K on make-up to run around the country and speak to the average working man, you're insane. It is even harder to digest when you think about the fact that all Palin & McCain have been talking about is Joe the Plumber. Hell, her clothes alone are more than his house or the business he works for...that's the news story and there is nothing sexist about that!

Her consignment store offers dresses 85.00 for a sundress to 365.00 and up for fancier duds....This is not a consignment store that I visit in my town... I won't spend that much at Macy's for a dress.

It is called Out of the Closet it is in Anchorage and they have a web site with their prices. Just another illusion thrown out by Palin herself.

While I do not like Hasselbeck, I like that we see three people defend a progressive agenda whenever she talks. Four years ago, the people were afraid to speak against the Reich. There were no strong voices except Air America, Stewart, Colbert, and Olbermann. Now we have found our voices and Hasselbeck is not the last word, or the only word as was the case so recently. She is irritating because she is clearly outmatched. She makes a lot of noise, but so does a three year old having a tanturm. Adults see through the noise to the substance and we have grown up...again. We really went immature with Dubya, taking a schoolyard bully attitude toward the Middle East. Obama has led the this Admninistration to do the right thing. Imagine what he can do once they are out of the way?!?

If having Elisabeth Hasselbeck as its featured spokesperson is not a sign that the McCain-Palin campaign is in tatters, I don't know what is!

Hasselbeck is the new Ann Coulter: bitter and blond!

I think that they invited her so that she could come back and talk about it on the view.
Free advertising for them.

Hasselback needs to get back to the "Reality Showbusiness" from which she came -- eating
worms. Bettyboop.

Mrs. Hasselbeck is a somewhat dumb, 2 faced blonde - no jokes, please. She is smart enough to know better and to avoid the appearances of being hypocritical, but she doesn't. This clothing business is a distraction; no one had much sympathy for Senator Clinton and her wardrobe; at least she purchased her own clothes and endured the criticisms. See what happens when a VP candidate is chosen who isn't ready - and I mean "ready" in every sense of the word.
Thank god, we only have 8 days left - then we can get back to sanity.

"The press has written plenty about the vanities and extravagances of male candidates. (See: Haircuts, John Edwards and Bill Clinton.) Sexism would be to treat Palin differently, or more delicately, than one of the guys." Maureen Dowd.

This ridiculous cry about sexism is nonsense. Elisabeth's is a really great whiner. She's also good at delivering talking points which should have no place on The View. Please take her, Fox and let The View be rid of her irritating chatter.

I'm with you on this one. I CANNOT watch The View if ,by some chance, I'm home and not at work. She totally turns me off. It appears that whatever the conversation topic is, she's got to be the one making the most noise, screeching away about it. If the rest of the panel agree to something, she's the one that has to disagree and vice versa. She really gets on my nerves.

I tried to watch Hasslebeck but honesty could NOT. I mean, one screeching voice at a time is enough. It looked like a movie of Dumb and Dumber.

Why should any credence be given to this trophy wife? She's a pretty face and a loud mouth, very much like the person she's hanging with right now.

You know something? If you listen to Elisabeth, Hannity, Oreilly, do you ever notice that by them constantly drilling in Obama's character, they never talk about mccain's issues. Which means that if they never say what mccain is going to do, doesn't that presenta a big problem altogether?
One blog says she has blinders. I always look at she and others as robots. Why won't they talk about his issues if he is suppose to be so great?

To me it is as through Liz , Hannity and O'Reilly are brainwashed and cannot think outside the box. What they also have in common is they are hell bent Obessed with their ideas or lack there of.
