Mad Men

With Jon Hamm, star of critically beloved, underviewed show "Mad Men" hosting "Saturday Night Live," multiple skits based on the '60s-era, Emmy-winning show featured in the show. Joining Hamm in the first were two of his actual costars, Elizabeth Moss and John Slattery. The sketch was, "Two A-Holes Go An Ad Agency In The 1960s," with the a-holes themselves Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig, snapping gum, calling each other "babe" and pitching a product idea.

Later was Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women. Draper is Hamm's character on the show.

The skit set up was very funny but the 2 a-holes were not funny.

Hamm is now in the running to be SNL's next Alec Bladwin! He killed through-out the show, and "Don Draper's Guide to Picking Up Women" is one of the funniest things I've seen on SNL in years! His take on James Mason later in the show was a hoot too. Hope this made more people want to check out "Mad Men"...

I never watch SNL, but I watched these two clips because Jon Hamm was in them. My advice to SNL is to lose the two A-holes - absolutely not funny.

I love Kristen Wiig. She's the most talented comedic force the show has seen since its inception. She's a cross between Carol Burnett and Gilda Radner. The writing hasn't caught up to her talent, but she's one of the greats in my opinion.

Oh yes, such range. She quietly mumbles a few words for every character and not one of them is funny. That being said, she does her one character well and has good timing, but it's just not one iota funny.

I'm sorry but that two A-holes skit cracks me up. Its not that brilliantly written but I love Elizabeth Moss and John Slattery together. I have actually seen couples similar to them in real life.

I havent seen Mad Men but it looks interesting.

SNL may have made a major mistake by having it's cast overshadowed by the smooth, handsome, and talented Jon Hamm.

Am I crazy or did it seem like Hamm actually memorized his lines? He didn't seem to be staring at or reading right from the cue lines the way most guest hosts seem to do.

I noticed the same thing. He actually gave a performance instead of just walking and reading his way through the sketches, like all too many SNL hosts. You'd think by now SNL would know that the show is always funnier when the host is an actual actor with serious chops: Walken, Baldwin, and now Hamm joins the list. (I did think he was using cue cards for the hula hoop speech.) I always cringe when the host is a singer, athlete, politician or some celebrity of the moment--the sketches have to be written to disguise the host's limitations. The writers must love having legitimate actors to write for.

I've never seen Mad Men, but who knew this little bag of hottness was hidden away. Don Draper was great, felt kind of bond-esque...hmm maybe?

I agree. Hamm is a beautiful man who can laugh at himself. He is the Carey Grant of our generation.

People who know enough about Cary Grant to know how to spell his name correctly are laughing at any comparison to Jon Hamm.

And he would agree.

SNL was boring. It's really not funny anymore. Darrell Hammond is still around but he alone isn't enough to carry the show. Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey were hilarious. But they can't stay on to save it's ratings. Even Mya Rudolph wasn't enough to hold the show up. She is great too, but sometimes it's a group effort and this current group sucks.

As sexy as John Hamm is, Mad Men is a dreadfully boring show. Now it's in danger of not getting ratings. I hope the show gets canceled. It robbed Dexter and Michael C. Hall of an Emmy 2 years ago. And now it's struggling to survive. I know it got picked up for more seasons, but it's in danger with viewer ratings.

Let me help you out ScandalousCandice. Mad Men premiered in July of 2007 and was first nominated for an Emmy (and received one for Best Drama series) THIS year. So, it couldn't have robbed anybody two years ago. Also, the show just got picked up for a third season. So, sorry it's not being cancelled anytime soon. Hamm is gorgeous and talented; and most of the cast is quite talented. The writing is first-rate. I think people just don't know where or what the hell AMC is. Clearly, if a bigger audience doesn't find the show by the end of the third season, AMC just might drop it. That would be too bad. Quality is in short supply on the airwaves.

I don't find it boring at all. It's one of the two shows that I never miss, the other being True Blood. I always watch them on In Demand.

I'm sure for people who can't appreciate art, Mad Men might seem boring. And yes I am looking down my nose at you.

Jon Hamm is so hot and I thought the commercials of him running for councilman in Butts County were hilarious!

I think "the two A-Holes" is one of the dumbest skits ever on SNL and I wish they would stop doing it! I have NEVER seen one that was even remotely funny. I was so disappointed when they used them in the mad men skit last night. Is that the best they could do? It s.ucked!

I agree. It's the worst skit in the history of SNL, never funny, and the gum-chewing makes it unbearably excrutiating to watch. it's like nails on a blackboard. Lousy show last night- Coldplay is like U2 Lite- Very lite. Without Tina or Amy- pretty bad. Though it was great to see Michelle Obama back.

Jon Hamm was a terrific host on SNL. It was fun to see his comedic talent along with all that charm and those good looks! Kristen Wiig, though, is not funny in that character and therefore, that skit was lame. Nothing humorous about her chomping on gum and speaking nonfunny one-liners. It's almost uncomfortable to watch. She's good as Suze Orman, though, and should do more of that.

I love Mad Men and was happy to see the cast together on SNL last night. That being said, I thought the part when the 2 A-holes came out was absolutely stupid, boring and very uncomfortable to watch. In particular, I can't stand Kristen Wiig. I find her to be extremely annoying and not very talented. I will always miss the early SNL from my youth. They would have done a much better job with the Mad Men characters.

Mrs. Wiig, is that you? Not funny, decently talented actress with some timing, but not funny.
