Snl Vp Debate Skit

Newsweek:

If self-sacrifice is the mark of a true patriot, then Mike Barker is an American-flag pin incarnate. Barker is an executive producer of "American Dad," Fox's animated sitcom featuring Stan Smith, a xenophobic, far-far-right FBI agent--the type of Republican who believes we're winning in Iraq because the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner said so. "Dad" derives much of its humor from Stan's slavish adherence to cultural conservatism and President Bush's cowboy diplomacy, so attendees at this year's Television Critics Association press gathering wondered aloud how a Barack Obama presidency might affect the show. Could it benefit more from a McCain upset? Barker put any questions of his allegiance to rest: "I think we have to put the needs of the country ahead of the show." McCain might be hogging the slogan, but sometimes even Hollywood liberals put country first.

First off, enough with the 'Greek columns," thing. Oy. I saw it and it didn't look anything like some grand Greek temple. It looked like a TV set. The media likes to create these narratives, regardless of whether they have any facts to them or not. Another case in point, the fact-free talking point that the media has been too soft on Obama as said on SNL and then later whined about by Hillary. As independent studies have shown, by that point the press was not being wholly positive to Obama. In fact he started getting overwhelming negative press in March and from then until June when the primary ended, Hillary was the one with overall more positive press. And the same has been in the general election with McCain, where there has been more written about Obama, but most of it was negative until the last few weeks. But then that's to be expected when Obama's team hasn't been messing up as much as McCain's has, so of course the media should rightly cover the more negative stuff about McCain.

Oh and Fred is horrible. They should hire that guy on YouTube on LisaNova's channel.

I adore you! Post more often!!! I will add that Obama is EASY to skewer! I think some people are just paranoid for some reason. Either because of the race factor, or they don't want to cause him to lose by pointing out his flaws(indirectly related to race, for those who will look for any excuse not to vote for a black man).

The point can also be made that Fey needs Palin. Or more to the point SNL needs Fey and Palin.

the thing with satire, IMO, is it works best against those who HAVE offical power. McCain and the republicans are better targets at the moment because they've had the congress, the senate and the White House for most of the last eight years. And they've don't enough "stuff" for satirists to take aim at.

The most effective satire works when puncturing the truly powerful, the hypocrite and the fraud.

But to get to that point...you have to be in power and Obama isn't in power ....yet.

I'm quite sure if he wins the White House and "stuff happens"....Jon Stewart will run a satirical comment on it.

It won't take long for Obama's honeymoon to be over, IF he should win...the same people here who trumpeted him endlessly as if he were God will whine and bitch and it will fall on deaf ears from those of us who knew that he was a False Prophet from the get-go.

I love Tina Fey. And you may not agree with me here, but she has a lot to make up for for the lame C-linton support and skewering of B-Rock during the primaries. Everyone jumped on that stupid s-exism bandwagon. Fey included. I am not saying she doesn't have a right to choose whom ever she wants. But it was so unbalanced and B-S during the primaries.

I am glad they think P-alin is fair game. After how badly C-linton destroyed the media and their ability to attack a woman candidate fairly because of their inadequacies, and mistakes, it's refreshing to see women doing parodies and calling out the lack of substance.

I guess you are quite the self-loathing female, NO?
Seems so obvious from your sad rant.

Obama owes This Gurl a lot.

Since Palin held her own in the VP debate, it was Fey's excellent SNL skits that started to draw out Palin's very shallow political intellect.

If I were Obama, I would arrange for Fey to do guest appearances as Press Secretary and most certainly have her as his first White House guest.

No kidding! I was thinking, "What debate were you watching, honey?"

I guess for some, what Queen Latifah as Gwen Ifill said in her opening for the parody of the debate, rings true.

I guess if you weren't watching, then Palin's shallow intellect wasn't obvious, but if you were it was painfully obvious!

Satire, like reality, tends to skew left. The Greek Cynics invented satire and the Cynics were the early progenitors of the Beats, Diggers and Hippies. Even though Jonathan Swift was a cultural conservative it's impossible to read the unexpurgated "Gulliver's Travels" without reading a left-leaning bias in his text. Not to mention "A Modest Proposal." For that matter, even Christopher Buckley's "Thank You For Smoking" skewers lobbyists even while making comic heros out of them. The best satirists are committed leftists, like Voltaire, Mark Twain, Hunter S. Thomson and Thomas Pynchon. It just naturally goes with the territory.

Satire could be said to be the stating of truths in humorous terms.
A world without satire would be very cold indeed.

Thinking about it, it's surprising that Faux Nooz hasn't endorsed Obama, just to ensure they have something to completely focus their absurdest angst on for the next 4-8 years.

This guy is great! I sent the link to my daughter and her fiancee and they are laughing their butts off right now. SNL just imagine what this guy could do with all of your writers behind him.
