Lipstick Jungle

Variety:

NBC is shuffling its primetime sked, creating a crime-centric Wednesday night lineup and exiling the struggling "Lipstick Jungle" to Fridays.

As part of the change, Peacock stalwart "Law & Order" is returning to the sked sooner than expected. "Law & Order" is back in a familiar spot for the show, Wednesdays at 10 p.m., beginning Nov. 5.

Also on the same night, the soph drama "Life" will move to its new Wednesday time slot, at 9 p.m., behind "Knight Rider," which stays put at 8 p.m.

"Lipstick," which is being bumped from Wednesday 10 p.m. berth by "Law & Order," will move to Friday nights, filling "Life's" old 10 p.m. slot beginning Oct. 31.

In a statement, NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chairmen Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff said they hoped the shuffle would improve the Peacock's fortunes by turning its Wednesday lineup into "wall-to-wall satisfying mysteries."

The first step to cancellation.

The only thing better would be cancellation.

One of the best shows on television is on Friday night, it's Life on NBC...it's great!
06:23 PM on 10/27/2008
Yeah Life is a good one.

I don't know why this show is still kicking, is it a bad comedy or a bad drama? Stop it. Stop it now.
07:06 PM on 10/27/2008
"Life" is one of the best shows - so glad it is on at a "watchable" time now.

This is a really bad show; the acting is awful. I cannot believe that this show returned this season and the Womens Murder club was taken off. The only thing worse on TV is the so called comedy Worst Week. Can't wait to see that get pulled.

Yeh, I miss Women's Murder club, too - but the books are MUCH better.

I enjoyed the books, and watched the show a few times. I didn't know it had been canceled.
There's not much worth watching on anymore. The Women's Murder Club did see like a better show that Lipstick Jungle, but I haven't seen much of either.

I wish that ABC would bring back Cashmere Mafia. It is like Lipstick Jungle only with better acting and writing!

You are right. That show was terrible. Angie Harmon is one of the worst actresses of all time - that didn't help the show, casting her as the lead.

for crying out loud - lipstick jungle is one of the very few network shows i actually like and look forward to watching. i don't care where they relegate it to - i'll find it and watch it. wasn't it on last season on fridays at 10?

i personally think moving it back to friday is a good thing - as it stood now, it was competing with dirty/sexy/money and both are similar, in a way, unlike law and order.

and yeah, what the heck - i've never ever watched one episode of law and order in either the original form or its many incarnations. enough of "law and order" - it's EVERYWHERE.

nbc - keep lipstick jungle. it's fun, the characters are interesting, and for once, i think brooke shields can act. besides, there's men on there who are absolutely gorgeous to look at...and skin, there is skin to look at too. wheeeeeeh. what's not to like?

Maybe it's because this show is absolutely horrible.

So true. I live in NYC and these shows only reinforce an annoying strain of narcissism that is used to mask the notion of the supposed insecurity of succssful women that influences far too many women of a certain age here. It would be great if we could rid ourself of those negative stereo-types once and for all. Whenever I meet women like the women in these shows (and I'm a female, btw) I run screaming because for all their designer clothes and lack of economic worries, they really don't seem terribly happy with their lives. It's like the creators of these shows don't believe that ONE WOMAN alone can possess whatever positive qualities that these 3 or 4-headed hydra monsters possess. And a woman couldn't possibly have any or all of these successful qualities without being deeply (but in a very shallow way) flawed somehow. I can't watch 2 minutes of these shows without yelling "GET OVER YOURSELVES" and quickly turning the channel. It's like 90210 and Gossip Girl for adults who haven't emotionally evolved past college yet.

oh, please. i'm 60 years old, marched and worked for women's rights in the 70s when the movement was emerging, and i still like this show. it's fun. it's not meant to represent anything other than the three fictionalized women it is portraying. not everything can be a treatise or homage to strong women; not every battle can be fought during an hour's worth of tv programming on a friday night.

keep in mind that at least three women are being employed on this show, making a good salary, doing a good job at what they do. none of them set out to rewrite or act out the dead sea scrolls; they did start out to do something they loved: act - and in the process, entertain. another woman wrote the book upon which this is based, and also has a good career going for herself.

we have choices now, when in the past we didn't. and some of those choices can even be to portray successful women as flawed - dressed up in designer clothes with impossible children to raise. um, it's Tv; it's entertainment Tv, at that.

even judge amy had her crosses to bear on nighttime tv.

lighten up.

I live in NYC and love watching this show! Escapism at its best. Don't take it too seriously.

Friday nights either means the show is over, or they hope that lower ratings will allow for its survival on a night where expectations are low. Sorry, but there is enough crime and death on TV already for me. I can't understand why folks are addicted to "Law and Order." Is it seeing the bad guys get put away? Because there's more than enough death and violence on the news every day. I love "lipstick jungle" and its one of the few shows on TV that appeal to women. you'd think we don't watch TV...i hardly think women are watching the crime shows in huge numbers...

I don't know why but I love the show! Hope NBC sticks with it.

Why does Variety insist on writing all its articles in some 1930's retardation of English?

HAHAHA! So true. Kind of annoying really.

OK so I just have to say that this show has grown on me. Please don't get rid of it! It's actually really very good! It's not a Sex and the City spin off just b/c it's got women and it's in NYC. Please give it a chance! :)
