Matt Damon

People:

With nine days left before the presidential election, actor Matt Damon is trying to keep Americans fired up and eager to vote.

Damon is participating in the Florida VoteFest '08 Sunday and Monday, a statewide initiative to encourage people to vote early.

"I took time off from acting until the end of the year to be with my family and enjoy our new daughter," Damon told PEOPLE at a jam-packed Barack Obama rally Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla. "But it is very important for me to do what I can to help the Obama campaign so people will go out and vote. We need change in this country and now is the time to be sure that happens."

I just want to say a big Thanks to Matt Damon for just doing what he believes in and doing it.
I truely believe that it is not about celebrity for him. He is just a consciencious person who is doing what he feels is right and giving his time, just like any other person.
Also a big thanks to all who have tirelessly worked on the campaign and given time to this important election.

Yeah, Barak really needs Matt Damon. These idiots have egos the size of their unwarranted paychecks.

Barack Obama, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Matt Damon are all Harvard University alumnus. So Matt's politics may be Democratic, but his added motivation is to get another Harvard guy in the White House (re. JFK), and retire all the Yale-ies (Bush, Clinton)!!

Damon attended classes at Harvard, but dropped out. He is not an alumnus of Harvard.

It is great to see the wide range of people coming out in support of Barack Obama

As I work hard through these last days of this unprecedented campaign, I’d like to share a labor of love from a wonderful family in support of Barack. It’s a campaign anthem with words that are strong, healing and consistent with his message. It is particularly appropriate with all of the hate generated by anti-Obama people. A video slideshow on you tube gives a glimpse of the beauty of this work. If anyone sees the song like I do, perhaps you could bring it to the attention of the proper campaign official. I could see this song being sung by everyone at the inauguration! Here’s the link:

Celebrities, actors, musicians & athletes are Americans that have EVERY right to speak there mind. They are just like us, minus the millions of $. They tend to be more liberal so therefore its a niche that republicans know they can't count on. Sorry to say conservatives your time is almost up and YES it will be a one-sided Govt...

Though I know she's just being nice, my wife thinks that I kinda look like Matt Damon.

At least I know we're voting the same way....

Personally, I think movie stars would be better off keeping their political views to themselves, but if they have to mouth off, it makes it easier for me if they're supporting my views [which Matt Damon is doing here]. But thanks to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, I'll never get beyond the silly characterization of Matt Damon in "Team America" when all he could ever think to say was his own name as if in a confused haze.

This argument has NEVER made ***any*** sense to me at all. It's the most ridiculous argument ever, ESPECIALLY coming from normal people who post their own opinions online.

"Are you a professional media critic? How about you keep your criticism of celebrities to yourself."

People use the most effective available platform they have to share their opinions, in every walk of life. That is why blogging is so popular and why internet forums are so popular. IT IS WHY THIS SITE EVEN EXISTS.

Celebrities simply have a larger platform than most people. They are not actors 24/7.

George Clooney (and others) has said he avoids such things because celebrity endorsements often result in backlash. He and others who feel the same way tend to keep their opinions to themselves, and limit their political activity to financial support and advocacy for the causes they care about.

Personally, I say to each his or her own. I totally agree with you that it's the definition of hypocracy for people posting on blogs to complain about celebrities speaking their minds.

Matt Damon is an American too, so he is and should be entitled to have his voice heard. I would never vote for a candidate based on what a celebrity tells me to do, but that does not take away that celebrity's right to express his/her opinion.

I think Affleck is coked out of his mind. He was acting really coked up on a recent Bill Maher episode, so if thats that case he'd better stay home before Palin starts saying Obama "pals around" with junkies.

Please don't disparage people with no evidence.
02:18 PM on 10/27/2008
umm...i happen to know a couple of coke heads...and no...based on what i have seen in the past, ben affleck didn't come across as being "coked out of his mind"
10:04 AM on 10/28/2008
See 'Gone Baby Gone' directed by Afleck. Damn good flick. As for Damon? I have room in my DVD collection for some more 'Bourne's. Maybe a sequel to 'Good Will Hunting'? That won both Afleck and Damon Oscars. Damon is right on. We need a change and McCain is not change!

Matt Damon...grrrrrrowl. :-)

Beauty AND brains. Oscar winner for "Good Will Hunting", an incredible action hero in all "Bourne Identity" movies and an amazing actor.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck... well, she's beautiful. At least she has that going for her.
