B.B. King, the B-52s, the Flaming Lips, T.I. and Clint Black are among the acts enlisted by NBC to create their own spin on the famed Peacock chimes.

The artists will appear in a new series of on-air promos as part of NBC's ongoing "Chime In" branding campaign.

King will be seen, for example, adding a twist to the G-E-C notes on his guitar, while the B-52s have come up with a more dance-oriented take on the chimes.

"There are two objectives here: to continue to brand the tone of voice for NBC and, because we're living now in a C3 world (the commercial ratings measurement preferred by advertisers), we're trying to make our commercial breaks as entertaining as possible," said NBC Entertainment marketing prexy Adam Stotsky.

Other artists involved include Richie Sambora and the Airborne Toxic Event.

Not even B B King could ring my chimes about NBC, MSNBC & CNBC, maybe. Since we won't ever again get Rowan & Martin's "Laugh-In", how about FAUX BUSINESS or NOISE 'Gross Out" with O'Really, 2 often Seen, Carmen Boltz & a mystery hourly maven? Abandoning Beautiful Downtown Burbank might still be available to FAUX, there's going to be a lot more cheap space below Herald Square. When the NYT folds-there's the new building. There always is Jersey too. The Messrs Ailes & Murdoch can get formerly prime space cheap.
Rockafeller, aka Schlockyfalla, Center is very old. If the memorial tower at the WTC ever gets built, the State of NY & PANYNJ won't fill that space. The space used by the rr's under MSG will be cheap if they ever move Penn Station to the old post office.
The wrecking ball is the only thing that will ring on Manhattan. Don't need no chimes. NBC could get Chuck Berry to revise "My Ding a Ling" cheaper than BB. GE will tell NBC it's time to ditch the chimes. Tradition is too expensive. NBC needs something that's 21st century, not 20th. I mean, Amtrak isn't going to run a 20th or 21st Century Limited out of Grand Central to White Plains or Buffalo.

The B-52s? Inspired choice, actually -- the music in their new "Funplex" album is the most invigorating stuff I've listened to in years. The lyrics are another and more complex issue, but the music itself ought to win awards, and even then the B-52s' discography has plenty of songs not devoted to the same topic either...

Nice to know BB King is in the running too - and still around TO run. :)

What better retune is needed besides Tina Fey as Sarah Palin playing it on the flute?
