Obama Mask Listed As "Terrorist Costume" On Amazon

I had heard from a friend that searching on Amazon.com for "terrorist costume" would yield but one costume -- a Barack Obama mask.

Figuring it was a joke, I had to try it for myself. After entering "terrorist costume" in to the "Apparel & Accessories" search box at Amazon, however, the search results were less than funny. Sure enough, there was but one result, a Barack Obama mask selling for $49.95.

Since this story has been making a buzz on teh internets, Amazon.com has fixed the "terrorist" listing. I wonder if they will issue an apology?

On a side note, Google was mentioned in the news article.

When I google muslim, I get: "Related searches: obama muslim".

I would have to guess that the mere fact that someone googled "obama muslim" and somehow that translates to "Related searches: obama muslim".

Maybe, it's that erroneous statements have not been made that connects John McCain or other politicians with terrorist. No one tagged anything derogatory about the other politicians on the website.

This mask is not even the worst of the ones they have for sale. There is a "deluxe Obama mask" that does not resemble him in the slightest and seems only to appeal to the racist. This mask appears to have been designed to pander to every racial stereotype. I never had a problem with the Reagan, Clinton or Bush masks, although not what I would spend my money on. This mask is not a likeness in any way,
It is disappointing to know that Amazon has a hand in marketing "hate props"

Wow. I will be writing them and telling them that I will NEVER purchase anything thru there site again and I use them all the time. How could a corporation be so dumb to do something that could offend millions of people?

Go to amazon and email them about not monitoring their tags. Customers are allowed to add any tag they want. Next thing you know, some uknowwhat will tag "Dreams of My Father" with the N word, unless Amazon institutes some policy to control random abusive tagging of products.

Perhaps the terrorist Obama mask has been removed, but they still have a listing for the
SCARY OBAMA mask!

BTW, scary is not a tag here, it is the actual name given for the product..

This is a sure way for Amazon to bring their successful marketing to a SCREECHING halt! I won't be making any future Amazon.com purchases, that's for sure.

This is simply a matter of Amazon's search engine operating on the word "costume." When I entered "terrorist costume" it pulled up a page with a lot of costumes using different political figures. Most did not even closely resemble the candidates. This is not a deliberate attempt on the part of Amazon to stir up violent rhetoric. It is the way their search engine works.

On the other magazine site's comments about this I read that Amazon had 'fired employees who were trying to start a union'. This is equally unacceptable. And everyone should write in and demand that Amazon stop firing anyone who tries to start a union. Why shouldn't there be a union at Amazon? They now fall into the same egregiously-run camp as Walmart, with me. I had thought Amazon was better. (Even though a man at a cheese store run by Amazon took time to write down my credit card number (a long pause between the number and asking for the date and other information; he turned out to be 'the nephew' of the owner), though he said he didn't, and cheese was sent loosely wrapped and not sealed in any way, cheese falling out of the wrappers all over the box. I don't patronize this cheese store, the main internet cheese store at Amazon anymore, needless to say.)

So as not to inadvertently diss any other stores at Amazon which sell cheese, the 'cheese store' I describe above does not have the words 'cheese' in the name and was NOT gourmetfoodstore.comm' .

I just checked and Amazon no longer has an Obama mask coming up under 'terrorist mask' or 'terrorist costume'. BUT I further checked the websites Amazon 'recommends' under this page -- there were three of them -- all costumers or Halloween stores, and one of them lists 'Obama Smiling' if I type in 'terrorist mask'. I just called this store and told a receptionist about this and she said, 'This is just terrible! -- I am voting for Obama!' She said she would tell 'the person who handles that sort of thing', a woman, 'as soon as she gets off the phone'. I think she will do that.

I also wrote an email to Amazon and told them I would not buy another thing until that particular website (which I am not going to name so as not to give them any publicity) is taken off Amazon's website.
