Politico:

RNC Chairman Mike Duncan throws back the blame for Sarah Palin's wardrobe by telling MSNBC that the McCain campaign asked for the RNC to pay for the clothes, and it came as part of the coordinated campaign.

This comes after a McCain advisor had said that it was entirely the RNC's call to purchase the clothes (at around the 2:45 mark), and Palin blamed it on party bureaucracy.

Neither wants to be seen as responsible for the clothing blunder.

There was a crooked party
That ate a crooked meal
They found a crooked businessman
And made a crooked deal

They walked a crooked road
To buy a crooked house
In the Nation's Capital
With Forclosures for all Else

Dressed in their crooked clothing
Corrupted head to toe
With $20K of make up
To hide the shell without a soul

Do Republicans ever take responsibility for anything? Not a chance, my friends.

Agree with you a thousand percent!!

This is a definite pattern she has in spending gov't funds inappropriately, as evidenced first with HouseGate and now MakeoverGate. Not to mention a full accounting of where and how she spent the federal funds for the Bridge to Nowhere. I hope her accounting records are thoroughly investigated somehow. And I hope the IRS pays her a little visit too.

Karma is a bitch isn't it Sarah?

We're suddenly supposed to believe this right-wingnut, gun-toting animal killer can't say no to the threads that go on her back--let alone Big Dude's new suits, Trig's designer booties, and Piper's Louis Vitton. Yeah right, and pigs can fly, just like Putin over Alaska...

In order not to get in hot water over the illegal use of public funds for the purchase of a candidate’s clothes, the RNC says they were “gifts” to Sarah Palin. As “gifts” Sarah Palin will have to declare them as income in 2008. 1/3 have been returned, since we don’t know the amount put back into their coffers, lets assume for the sake of argument it is 1/3 of the $150,000. That leaves $100,000 she will need to claim. Even if all of the remaining clothes, worn or not, are donated to charity the IRS does not allow the retail value as a deduction, but what she would get at ..say… a yard sale. A high estimate of .50 to the dollar still leaves her with a $50,000 income boost. Now Sarah says the clothes belong to the RNC and were not “gifts” to her (or her family??). So she doesn’t plan on claiming them as income? And, the point of my post really, doesn’t this put it back on the RNC and the illegal use of public funds? A circler lie that just keeps spinning.

Fiscal Conservatism....

Republicans are cash strapped this election and yet they blew $150,000 on clothing and spent a small fortune on things like chocolate elephants. These people obviously don't have their priorities straight and don't know how to manage their own money.

Hey, we lost the election but at least we have a bunch of designer clothes and chocolate elephants to show for it!

Republicans attack Democrats as being "tax and spend". I guess this is opposed to burying future generations in debt. I've thought about this and it really seems as if the Republicans would rather bury future generations in debt then pay their own share now. Sound familiar? Sound a little like these people who charge and charge on their credit cards without any regards to how they will pay it off? It's better to charge your way into debt than to pay now?

I'd rather be taxed and pay for the infrastructure, public schools, etc. my community needs than pass the bill to my daughter, thank you very much.

In the bigger picture, everything gets paid for right now. Money exists to ration production and reward effort. Printing more money doesn't work out in a simple way, but the excess is distributed which affects its spending. When it goes to the wealthy, it tends to go into investments. These are bid up beyond their value with an appearance of fraud and hoax (the bubbles and funny investment instruments). It finally washes out in inflation. If it reaches your daughter in years to come, it will be like mere background noise.

Then make counter-accusations. lol

I can't believe that John McCain is actually using this strategy against the RNC to smooth over the Palin wardrobe issue.
