Chad Coleman (who plays Dennis "Cutty" Wise), Deidre Lovejoy (who plays Rhonda Pearlman), Jamie Hector (Marlo Stanfield), Clarke Peters (Detective Lester Freamon), Sonja Sohn (Detective Shakima "Kima" Greggs), Seth Gilliam (Sergeant Ellis Carver), and Gbenga Akinnagbe (Chris Partlow) will all appear at the backyard brunch on Sunday.

On Monday, Chad Coleman, Deidre Lovejoy, and Jamie Hector will visit UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University to encourage students to vote early. Early voting in North Carolina started October 16 and November 1 is the last day voters may take advantage of early voting.

Since the show was demonstrating the failed war on drugs, it's a kind of ironic they are supporting Obama, who would not doubt continue funding it (and since Biden is a staunch supporter of it). They are better off supporting Nader or Barr.

What is good about this is "The Wire" was shot on location and that is important. It showed the grinding poverty, the drug empire and the sophistication of it, the failing schools. It shows a place that is in dire need of hope and help. Places like this under Clinton were starting to make positive changes and it was all lost and made worse during the Bush years. The cast knows firsthand about Baltimore.

It was Obama's favorite show, and mine as well. The Wire was the best TV ever made, if you ask me. I love that these guys are out there getting out the vote in North Carolina, we're going to need every last vote to take that state. GObama-GoBiden!

As a Baltimorean, I love the symbolism of this. I'm a white guy who grew up in King's Atlanta during the Movement. Following King's dream of integration and opportunity for educated blacks, Atlanta's blacks have gone from strength to strength, achieving the largest black middle class on earth. Meanwhile, Baltimore's inner city seems locked in the abyss portrayed by The Wire. From the start, I've seen Obama as the perfect answer for lost inner city black youth all over the country. First, his victory shows that if you study, keep your nose clean, and work hard, there are no limits to what a black person can achieve in 21stC America. Second, Obama can, and will, use the presidential bully pulpit to continue to preach the gospel according to Bill Cosby, which he himself, like Cosby, personifies: the gospel of turning off the TV and studying, of avoding drugs and crime, of not getting pregnant until you are married, and of getting as much education as possible to make yourself a skilled contributor to the American economy, instead of a petty criminal with a one-way ticket to Palookaville. Thank God for King, Cosby, and Obama, the greatest friends black America has ever had.

if you think it's that's simple, then you are a part of the problem.

It's not that simple, but it is part of the solution.

I have to agree with you, hellifiknow. Obama is a role model for every American on what you can achieve through hard work and disciplin, but the problems that plague inter-cities are not that one dimensional.

Violence, lack of economic prospects, run down infrastructure, currently dried up credit for higher education along with the drug problems, babies having babies and a host of other problems that plague our cities are too much for too long for just a specific community of people to handle. It's when these problems hit the "middle-class" is when these problems get will attention and maybe some resolution.
