Barack Obama To Appear On "The Daily Show" Wednesday

CHESTER, Pa. — Gotta make time to laugh in a campaign _ and court the youth vote.

In the midst of a mad dash toward the election, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will make time Wednesday to appear on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" with its host, Jon Stewart.

The satirical news review, which covers the election under the banner of "Indecision 2008," offers candidates a chance to show off their ability to be humorous if they can respond off the cuff.

Stewart also tends to put candidates on the spot on news of the day.

Obama will tape his appearance via satellite during a campaign swing in Florida on Wednesday. The segment is scheduled to air at 11 p.m. EDT.

This will be Obama's fourth time on the show. He last appeared on April 21, the eve of the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania.

Obama's Republican competition, John McCain, has been a guest on Stewart's show, too.

Both candidates will be making the most of TV on Wednesday. Obama has bought 30 minutes of prime time to make the case for his candidacy and discuss the economy; the program will air on CBS, NBC and Fox. McCain will be interviewed on CNN's "Larry King Live."

I wouldn't necessarily say he offends everyone, but he definitely goes after everyone. Does anybody remember after the 2000 election when he had McCain on (the old McCain, obviously) and he told him, "Thanks for coming on, you ARE my president."

Jon also got McCain to admit that he Sold his Soul. He prodded & McCain laughed and agreed, yep I sold out. I would love to see that U-tube up right now.

(I think it was about McCain's kissing Pat Robertson's, et al.'s, butts, after he had "stood up to them/called them out" in 2000, as I recall.)

not to worry, Barrack's intelligence and coolness under pressure will shine through and John Stewart will run with it.

My first exposure to Obama was on NPR's "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me" comedy quiz show a couple years ago. He was very funny, smart and natural and gave as good as he got. It stuck in my memory and even though I was an early Edwards supporter, Obama was always in my field of interest because of that.

I am glad that to top off the day after the thirty minute Obama show on three channels in the evening with the Dail Show will be a fin thing to do. I just hope the right people watch the thirty minute show as I know his base will catch the Jon show.
