Two new joint McCain-Palin/Republican National Committee radio ads surfaced Tuesday morning in Montana, where the RNC also plans to start broadcasting television ads on Wednesday -- a sign of the state's new competitiveness in the presidential race. Both of Tuesday's radio ads suggest that Barack Obama does not understand America.

In one of the new spots, legendary country singer Hank Williams Jr. pounces on the months-old "bittergate" controversy.

"When Barack Obama said folks like you and me were bitter, and clinging to religion, I knew he just doesn't understand small town America," Bocephus says, adding: "We love our God, and we love our guns, 'specially handed down from our grandfathers. And we resent it when liberals like Obama question our way of life. Don't be bitter, vote McCain."

The ad then diverts into a 30-second slam on "congressional liberals" -- a subject shift that makes the RNC's expenditure on the ad legal. A voiceover artist accuses these liberals of wanting to increase spending by nearly $1 trillion while "rais[ing] taxes on folks making $42,000 a year" to pay for it.

"Congressional liberals call it taxing the rich. We call it out of touch. No wonder they criticize our values, but expect us to accept theirs. Congressional liberals, out of touch with our America."

The second ad also tries to capitalize on any latent suspicions about Obama. A female voice, backed by an ominous minor-key piano melody, says, "Barack Obama says he'll spread your wealth around. Here's Obama's plan: First Obama raises your taxes. Then he spends nearly a trillion dollars on new government programs. Spreading the wealth means government gets bigger, special interests grow fatter, while your paycheck gets leaner. More for big government, less for you. Just as you suspected, Barack Obama's wrong for you."

Then the spot diverts into another attack on "congressional liberals."

The ads started airing on radio Tuesday morning, according to an industry source who provided them to the Huffington Post.

The fact that McCain has to spend precious resources on ads in a winger state like Montana is sort of funny in and of itself. I'm sure Obama is running scared knowing that McCain is fighting to gain those THREE electorial votes that Montana carries. Latest polls show that Montana is dead even @ 45%.

Oh, is Montana suddenly a battleground state now???

THIS is pathetic! Next thing, they'll be playing these desperate ads in Arizona!!! Mark my words, by the weekend, they will be forced to play these in mccain's backyard!

What an embarrassment to even have to defend Montana at this point!

Divide and conquer just doesn't work anymore. Whereas conservatives will have to do a serious soul-searching to redefine themselves again, liberals will always be open-minded, enlightened, smart, and, simply, compassionate.

I'd be happy to just understand Hank Williams, Jr. Nevermind all of smalltown hillbilly rednecks. And, yes, I unapologetically use that language to describe illiterate people. If it is okay to mock and scorn intellectual, it should be more than okay to mock stupid people.

I live in one of those small midwest towns. Men who fear they might not be able to care for their families clean their guns.and women go to church more. Men feel helpless and if they have a gun they feel that at least they can keep them safe from a bad guy in the night. Women are afraid too and they reach out to God for help more often. People here always have their hunting guns and women always go to church. But there is a difference in intensity during hard times and men and women reach out for more comfort and security in the ways that work best for them. There's no shame and it wouldn't have felt like shame if opposing politicians hadn't whipped people up. Republicans make it sound as though no real man or woman could be afraid and seek comfort and they say it so loudly that people feel embarrassed and have to deny the feeling behind the actions and it makes them feel naked. It's a shameful thing what John McCain and Sarah Palin have done to hurting Americans as they have whipped up this shame and embarrassment and turned it to anger. I'd bet you all of Sarah Palin's clothes that when she's scared she spends more time praying and going to church and when she's at home she keeps her guns in good working condition. Betcha! They're two of the big things in her life too---guns and religion.

I don't expect someone like Hank Williams Jr. to understand the sociological insight in Obama's statement. It's not a commentary on Christianity or America or small towns. It is a comment on the human condition. American history is repleat with examples of the kind of bitterness, hatred and prejudice that people use when they fear change. Those of us who are educated get it. The rest think it is a personal insult.

She pops up all the time. I'm a forgiving person, but she's the one I'll never forget in the primary. And her undercover/break-the-rules reporting lives on.

I hope someone gives us a chance to see the real Obama. I hope they use his comments on how the constitution is fatally flawed. More information is power.

How appropriate. Like George W. Bush and John S. McCain III, Hank Williams Jr. is the underachieving offspring who got where he is based on who his daddy was and on having his daddy's name.

All three of these guy were born on third base, but each thinks he hit a triple.

Why doesn't the bailout just pay all the mortgages and credit cards off for all the people. then the banks will get their money and the people will be able to spend agai n because they will be out of debt . we give the banks money to do what they want with and they get paid twice once by the government and once by the taxpayer and we are paying twice once with tax money and once with our debt.that we still owe what is fair about that

Could it be that these voters might wonder if some of the wealth might get spread over them? I think they understand that none came their way in the last 8 years. I think they understand that $150K for fancy duds is outrageous. I think they understand that hope is better than hate, that Barack understands their bitterness, and that McCain has nothing to offer them.

'Betcha' we hear after the election how much in debt RNC & McCain campaign is. McCain whining the blues (New Hank Jr. song) that Obama broke his promise re funding. McCain campaign has had almost $400 thousand -- They do fundraising over and above what taxpayer funding they get so don't buy into they ran their campaign on only what taxpayer funding is. The fact is McCain not only can't run a campaign, he can't fundraise either. Shortly after Palin was introduced, her fundraiser in Ohio raise $1M. Whooppee. McCain raised $5M at a fundraiser. The GOP are whining about Obama's campaign wealth yet they are usually the ones with the outrageous gobs of money --- of course they say the Dems whine then.

It's like Palin's clothing and them whining how they are being picked on. Hello -- they do the same thing. Edward's $400 hair cut.

When will they learn -- the citizens of America are not s.t.u.p.i.d. Quit playing us as such. That's why finally there has been a massive response in this election. We're tired of it.
