Palin A "Whack Job," Top McCain Adviser Says

One of John McCain's advisers recently called his running mate Sarah Palin a "diva" after she went off-script at a rally, and suggested she was looking after her own political future over the current campaign. Now another adviser ups the ante in a conversation with the Politico's Playbook, labeling Palin a "whack job."

Meanwhile, Dana Milbank reports on more signs of division between McCain and his running mate on the stump:

"Sarah Oh-Twelve!" bellowed a man in field coat and jeans, one of several thousand at the Leesburg rally, when Palin spoke about her tax policies yesterday.

The oh-twelve message, if mathematically flawed, seemed to capture the crowd's sentiment. There were "I [Heart] Palin" bumper stickers on cars, "Team Sarah" T-shirts in pink, "Sarah!" pins and countless signs: "You Go Girl." "You're in Palin Country." "Maverick Barracuda." One of the souvenir vendors said his most popular offering was a pin showing Palin next to a pit bull and the usual "McCain-Palin" logo reversed, with her name first and in larger letters.

The diva made sure to spend some time on her "own track record" in Alaska, particularly all the taxes she cut. "Sarah! Sarah!" the crowd chanted.

"So, Virginia, will you hire us?" she asked. "Will you send us to Washington?"

"Yes, we will! Yes, we will!"

In 2012, that is.

The Republican Party/McCain selected Palin because they assumed women would vote for her. Now if McCain loses (fingers crossed), Palin will be blamed. Palin does not follow script, and she is forced to campaign with McCain. The Republicans used Palin, she is possibly promoting herself for 2012, and now certain Republicans are blaming her. The Republicans do not support women. Only Stepford Wives need apply.

I think it's the other way around. The GOP is throwing this election. The odd man out here is McCain. They now have their successor in position before the American public in Palin, so all they have to do is sabatoge the Presidency for the next four yearsand sit back and say I told you so. Hasnt the McCain campaign been trying to see Palin as a "maverick"? so, now they are complaining that she is not falling in line with everything they order her to do? isnt that what mavericks are supposed to do? they go against the grain, buck the establishment, and dont take marching orders well. So, either they never really paid attention to the nature of the candidate that they have been trying to sell, or the "image" of her that they have been trying to sell. Or else, she never was a maverick and now they are shocked to see that they have been pumping the "maverick" lines into her head for so long that she is now starting to believe her own PR and is becoming one...agai­nst them.

Any ideas who should play Failin Palin? Besides Tina Fey, of course---think HBO or Warner...I keep trying to think who could direct this mess and I keep hitting on Kevin Spacey or Tim Burton, which just makes me giggle.

I know exactly who the "top adviser" is who's got a hate on for purty li'l Sarah--CINDY McCAIN. She resented Sarah getting the freebie shopping spree--Cindy, the bankroller of flyboy hubby's political career, wanted to be the only haute-clad lady on the dais--and Sarah was making Cindy look just a trifle oldi-sh. Now that Sarah's back wearing her tatty consignment duds, Cindy's happy as a clam. At the (dry, indoor, rain bad for hair) Pennsylvania McC rally today, Cindy had to rub it in by looking relaxed and fab in that gorgeous red-brown fitted leather jacket and soft tan slacks--beautiful, expensive, perfectly tailored--SUCK ON THAT SARAH. Sarah was trying to keep smiling despite her polyester pink jacket riding up every time she lifted her arms, and I guess they laid off the $$$ makeup artist, too, and got someone cheaper who put Sarah's blusher on with a trowel. I miss Sarah--I mean the beautifully styled package that was Sarah--I loved all those silk jackets and great stilletos, the false eyelashes and the never-fading lipgloss. Alas, now that she's just back to being some amoral hockey-mom power-grabber whose wardrobe is circa last year's clearance rack, I've lost interest. Go, Obama, I luv ya, baby, but please tell Michelle to lose the J. Crew.

Did you see Sarah's purple suit today? NO CONSIGNMENT THERE! That was a brand-spanking new, expensive, and tailored, despite her claims. She's so clueless, she doesn't even know that the shade of purple reveals her as a liar--that's a brand new shade for Fall, 2008.
